Mikey's StoryMikey was born in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince: La Saline, a place where mothers feed their children "mud pies" simply to put something in their bellies. As an infant, Mikey was abandoned by his mother. Eventually he was brought, wrapped in a towel and barely alive, to the pastor who runs the orphanage. The bundle was so tiny and light that the man thought it contained a loaf of bread. Today Mikey is doing well.

Who We AreThe founders of Servants for Haiti are people just like you. In 2000, we visited Haiti for the first time. It changed everything. We saw the effects of extreme poverty. There is nothing romantic or noble about it. It's ugly, degrading and it destroys people, especially children. We want to do something about it and you can help.

One Child at a Time

Our PassionBarely 700 miles from the gleaming art deco facades of Miami is a nation of suffering and want that most Americans cannot even imagine: Haiti. A nation wracked by violence, devastated environmentally and politically corrupt, its statistics are staggering:

● Average annual income: $400

● Literacy rate: 40%

● Infant mortality rate: 1 in 10

But statistics only tell part of the story. Who suffers most from Haiti's problems? Tragically, it is those who are the most innocent: children. We have seen them, and we have touched them. We have had mothers offer us their children in hope of giving them a better life. We have seen the mud pies they must eat to fend off hunger pangs. Standing by while they die is not an option.

Our MethodsServants for Haiti provides practical assistance to an orphanage in the Cite Militaire neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti.

"Kingdom Kids" orphanage houses about 25 abandoned children from birth through grade school. We fund regular meals and medical care for those children. In the process, we provide employment for the caregivers at the orphanage.

Servants for Haiti is also actively involved in education. We have sponsorship programs for students from kindergarten through high school. Beyond that, our scholarship program allows students to pursue higher education in Haiti.

Our MissionOur mission is to provide an opportunity

for Haiti's impoverished children to

become outstanding leaders in their

homes, churches, communities and nation

by supplying them with the care they need

to survive and thrive.

To accomplish this mission, we provide

sponsorship programs for the education

of children whose families cannot

otherwise afford it. Sponsorships can also

provide medical care and basic

necessities such as food, clothing, and

shelter for some of Haiti's abandoned and

orphaned children.
