Sewing Tip of the Month

Remember, the recommended time for a needle is around eight hours.

If you have poor stitch quality, it is usually a result of the needle or thread.

You can also damage the machine with the dull needle. Do not risk placing

a burr on the machine hook or knocking the machine out of timing because of not

changing the needle. A needle is a lot more affordable than a repair.

Also, use the right needle for the project. Selecting the right needle for

the job can make all the difference in the world on the finished work.

Sewing Classes for 2015

We will begin to post our sewing classes for 2015 very soon.

We are very busy planning and making samples for next year.

If there is a class, you would like for us to consider, please let

us know. We will continue our club classes for next year. The

club classes were a great success. Also, we will be adding

some new teachers at each location. We are very excited

about our new projects for next year. Registration should

begin in late November or early December.

The new Bernina 710, 750 and 780 require regular oiling. The stitch quality of these

machines will be jeopardized if not oiled. You can also cause damaged to the hook

system. A good way to remember when to oil is at the end of each bobbin. The oversized

jumbo bobbin allows for a lot of sewing between oiling. There are two oil pads on the hook

and an oil port under the stitch plate. Place one drop on each area. Remember,

proper maintenance extends the life of the machine.

Everyone who comes to Christmas in July knows it not only about making fun Christmas projects; but

also about the food. I have had a lot request for Martha’s Grape Salad recipe. Since, its

Thanksgiving and a lot of cooking is just around the corner I decided to include it in this month’s

newsletter. Everyone enjoy it and thanks to Martha Martin.

Grape Salad

Ingredients:

4 lbs. seedless grapes

8 oz. sour cream

8 oz. cream cheese softened

1/2 cup sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:

Wash & drain grapes. Cut large grapes in half. Set aside. Mix sour cream, cream cheese,

sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Pour over grapes and fold in until well mixed. Spread in

6’ x 10” dish for half recipe or 9”x 13” for full recipe. Then top with a mixture of 1 cut

chopped pecans and 1/3 cup brown sugar. Keep refrigerated.
