Supplies 1 fat quarter for outside, can be pieced if desired. You can also make a quilt as you go piece of fabric using quilt batting and then cut out pattern pieces omitting the need for Thermolam. 1 fat quarter for lining Medium weight fusible interfacing or heavy weight (Pellon Craft Fuse) interfacing 15”x13”* Thermolam Plus fusible fleece 15”x13” Matching thread Gutermann’s Glue 8”x3” clasp frame *if you use quilt weight cottons and are not going to quilt your piece, then I suggest fusing a medium to heavy weight interfacing on the wrong side of the outer fabric BEFORE fusing the Thermolam Plus

Tools needed: Sewing machine small scissors surgical tweezers or a pointed tool for helping to get the purse into the frame iron/ironing surface

1. Tape pattern pieces together, matching at center line and notches.

2. Cut two pattern pieces from outside fabric, lining and Thermolam.

3. Fuse Thermolam to wrong side of outer fabric.

4. All seams are ¼”, back tack at beginning and end of each seam. 5. Quilt outside pieces, if desired.

6. A zipper pocket or flat pocket can be added to lining pieces if desired. Then proceed with instructions. 7. Place lining pieces right sides together. Sew lining together at sides and across the bottom.

8. Press seams open and box corners. Measure 1” from corner and draw a line perpendicular to the corner. This line should be 2” long. Mark and then stitch on this line. Trim to ¼” seam allowance. Repeat on the other corner.

9. Do the same to the outside fabric.

10. Leave outside fabric with the right side in. Place lining fabric, right side out, inside the outside of purse, matching seams and all edges. Right sides of the fabric should be facing each other.

11. Stitch all around top edge, beginning about 3/4” from yellow pin, ending 3/4” past the red pin, leaving about a 4”-5” opening for turning. (See photo below)

10. Clip seam allowance in several places on either side of each side seam.

11. Turn the purse through the opening and push out corners.

12. Press all around the top seam, turning the opening inside to make a clean edge all around.

13. Topstitch about 1/8” all around the top edge.

14. Now the purse is ready to place into the frame.

15. In the channel of the frame put a line of glue on one side, from hinge to hinge.

16. Now maneuver the purse into the frame, being careful not to get glue all over the fabric or the outside of the frame. You have a lot of time before the glue sets up. Allow this one side to dry 20-30 minutes.

17. Repeat on other side.

18. If you do get glue on the frame you can carefully rub it off with a scrap of fabric.
