SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONJoin us on Wednesday's @ 6:30 p.m. in the Zechariah Room

Readings for August 9, 2015

First Reading: 1 Kings 19:4-8

Queen Jezebel had vowed to kill Elijah, who went into the desert and prayed for death. Instead he went to sleep and was awakened by an angel, who told him to eat the food God had given him. He ate and went back to sleep, but God’s angel again woke him and told him to eat. Strengthened by the food, he got up and walked forty days and nights to the mountain of God.

Second Reading: Ephesians 4:31:5:2

Paul appeals to the Ephesians to get rid of bitterness, anger, and malice. Instead they must be kind, compassionate, and forgiving just as God has been. We must be imitators of Christ, and love one another as He has loved us.

Gospel: John 6:41-51

The Jews were not convinced that Jesus was the bread that came down from Heaven. But He again explains that He is the bread of life. He tells them that anyone who believe and eats this bread shall live forever. He explains that the bread He will give is His flesh, for the life of the world.

Readings for August 16, 2015

Reading 1: Proverbs 9:1-6

Reading 11:Ephesians 5:15-20

Gospel: John 6:51-58

HEARING THE WORD AT MASS AND AFTER When you come to Mass do you LISTEN to the readings; to the Gospel? If not, here is a way that may help you and your family understand the Gospel a bit better. Try to read the Gospel with your family or on your own before Mass and then on the way to Mass…..We believe that the bread and wine that we bless and share at Mass become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus is really present in the bread and wine. How do you experience the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist at Mass? Let’s pay special attention to this

part of the Mass today. Then at Mass LISTEN to the Gospel. Then on the way home from Mass……How does receiving Communion (or receiving the presence of Christ in the Word, if you cannot receive Communion) “feed” us for the week? How do we feel after receiving?

MARRIAGE MATTERSHow do you build trust in a marriage? It’s like a bank

account---as you deposit honest deeds and words, trust builds up. It’s earned over time and grows. The same works for

children who ask “Don’t you trust me?” Remind them to make deposits now to build up trust.
