1 Invitation for Preparation To Celebrate Holy Communion With Our Congregation (Please read before worship begins) During these extraordinary times of social distancing and self-isolation, there is perhaps no greater need for us to experi- ence the power and comfort of the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Now is not a time for fasting and exile, it is a time to experience God drawing close to us in love and forgiveness. For that reason, we are offering everyone the opportunity to share in the Sacrament in your home, with Bread and Wine, but gathered around this one Table and sharing in this one community by digital means. This invitation is to explain to all who gather in worship with us by these means, member and guest alike, what we confess to be true about Communion, why we are embracing this new understanding, and then decide if you, in good conscience, wish to accept the invitation and share in this Meal. We believe that in this Sacrament Jesus Christ is truly present in the Bread and Wine, to nourish faith, forgive sins, and empower us to live like Jesus. We believe that this Sacrament is the meal of the baptized, which includes children with the instruction of their parents in conversation with the pastor. We believe that no child should be denied food from their home table, be it in their kitchen or in our shared Communion Table. Holy Communion takes place in the assembly of the congregation. During these extraordinary times, we will embrace the gift of technology that allow us to gather at the same time, around the same Table, and the same Pastor presiding in real time by digital means. We do not encourage you to take communion while watching a recording of the live stream or on your own in private. Holy Communion is consecrated by the Word of God and Prayer. In this extraordinary time, we hold that the Word of God and Prayer declaring Gods action and invitation is not limited by social distancing or geographic proximity. Therefore it is not a virtual participation, but a real assembly gathered via digital technology. Even in this time, we hold that the words of institution and the announcement of consecration are proclaimed by a presiding pastor. Bread and wine are used. We ask that prior to the start of worship, you set out on a plate the bread you are going to re- ceive in worship and a glass or cup for receiving the wine. Bread may be unflavored bread or crackers in bite sized portions (gluten free is welcome). For wine, as we serve wine and grape juice and recommend the same for you. If you lack either, fruit juice or water is acceptable in these circumstances. We ask that you respect the Sacrament and do not use other items (i.e., cookies, soda, coffee, liquor, etc.). You should consume all leftovers and not place them in the trash or drain. We practice hospitality at the Table. All baptized Christians are welcome to participate. If you are not a Christian, we have always offered a blessing at Communion for those who are not receiving the Bread and Wine. We offer that same blessing and the invitation to learn more about becoming a Christian by emailing Pastor Tom at [email protected]. We also welcome those of other faiths to be at home in worship and learn of our tradition as we seek to learn about yours. Sharing Communion in this manner is new and with limited precedent but is being done in a spirit of immediate pastoral care in extraordinary times. This is not a practice that would be condoned in many other Christian denominations and is being debated among our own bishops and theologians. However, pastoral freedom is allowed in each congrega- tion and therefore, after much prayer and deliberation over Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions, we choose to act in and offer grace to Gods people in a manner we believe is consistent with the practice of the historic Church by 21 st Century means. Come and share in the life of Jesus and as one gathered congregation, fed at one Table, we may serve in our many com- munities with the love of Christ. Invitation for Preparation To Celebrate Holy Communion With Our Congregation

(Please read before worship begins)

During these extraordinary times of social distancing and self-isolation there is perhaps no greater need for us to experi-

ence the power and comfort of the Sacrament of Holy Communion Now is not a time for fasting and exile it is a time to

experience God drawing close to us in love and forgiveness For that reason we are offering everyone the opportunity to

share in the Sacrament in your home with Bread and Wine but gathered around this one Table and sharing in this one

community by digital means This invitation is to explain to all who gather in worship with us by these means member

and guest alike what we confess to be true about Communion why we are embracing this new understanding and then

decide if you in good conscience wish to accept the invitation and share in this Meal

We believe that in this Sacrament Jesus Christ is truly present in the Bread and Wine to nourish faith forgive sins and

empower us to live like Jesus

We believe that this Sacrament is the meal of the baptized which includes children with the instruction of their parents in

conversation with the pastor We believe that no child should be denied food from their home table be it in their

kitchen or in our shared Communion Table

Holy Communion takes place in the assembly of the congregation During these extraordinary times we will embrace the

gift of technology that allow us to gather at the same time around the same Table and the same Pastor presiding in

real time by digital means We do not encourage you to take communion while watching a recording of the live

stream or on your own in private

Holy Communion is consecrated by the Word of God and Prayer In this extraordinary time we hold that the Word of God

and Prayer declaring Godrsquos action and invitation is not limited by social distancing or geographic proximity Therefore

it is not a virtual participation but a real assembly gathered via digital technology Even in this time we hold that the

words of institution and the announcement of consecration are proclaimed by a presiding pastor

Bread and wine are used We ask that prior to the start of worship you set out on a plate the bread you are going to re-

ceive in worship and a glass or cup for receiving the wine Bread may be unflavored bread or crackers in bite sized

portions (gluten free is welcome) For wine as we serve wine and grape juice and recommend the same for you If

you lack either fruit juice or water is acceptable in these circumstances We ask that you respect the Sacrament and

do not use other items (ie cookies soda coffee liquor etc) You should consume all leftovers and not place them in

the trash or drain

We practice hospitality at the Table All baptized Christians are welcome to participate If you are not a Christian we

have always offered a blessing at Communion for those who are not receiving the Bread and Wine We offer that

same blessing and the invitation to learn more about becoming a Christian by emailing Pastor Tom at

pastortommysjorg We also welcome those of other faiths to be at home in worship and learn of our tradition as

we seek to learn about yours

Sharing Communion in this manner is new and with limited precedent but is being done in a spirit of immediate pastoral

care in extraordinary times This is not a practice that would be condoned in many other Christian denominations and

is being debated among our own bishops and theologians However pastoral freedom is allowed in each congrega-

tion and therefore after much prayer and deliberation over Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions we choose to act

in and offer grace to Godrsquos people in a manner we believe is consistent with the practice of the historic Church by 21st

Century means

Come and share in the life of Jesus and as one gathered congregation fed at one Table we may serve in our many com-

munities with the love of Christ

For Paul true spirituality means that we experience the reality of the Spirit which enables us to pray as Godrsquos children keeps us in

solidarity with creation and gives us unseen hope that God will liberate us and creation from bondage to death and decay 12So then brothers and sisters we are debtors not to the flesh to live according to the fleshmdash13for if you live according to

the flesh you will die but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live 14For all who are led by the

Spirit of God are children of God 15For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear but you have received a

spirit of adoption When we cry ldquoAbba Fatherrdquo 16it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of

God 17and if children then heirs heirs of God and joint heirs with Christmdashif in fact we suffer with him so that we may also

be glorified with him 18I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to

be revealed to us 19For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God 20for the creation was

subjected to futility not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it in hope 21that the creation itself will be

set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God 22We know that the

whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now 23and not only the creation but we ourselves who have the first

fruits of the Spirit groan inwardly while we wait for adoption the redemption of our bodies 24For in hope we were saved

Now hope that is seen is not hope For who hopes for what is seen 25But if we hope for what we do not see we wait for it

with patience

Pastor The holy gospel according to St Matthew

People Glory to you O Lord

Jesus tells a parable about the coexistence of good and evil in this world Godrsquos judgment will remove all evildoers and causes of

sin but not until the end of human history 24[Jesus] put before [the crowds] another parable ldquoThe kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good

seed in his field25but while everybody was asleep an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and then went away 26So when the plants came up and bore grain then the weeds appeared as well 27And the slaves of the householder came

and said to him lsquoMaster did you not sow good seed in your field Where then did these weeds come fromrsquo 28He answered

lsquoAn enemy has done thisrsquo The slaves said to him lsquoThen do you want us to go and gather themrsquo 29But he replied lsquoNo for in

gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them 30Let both of them grow together until the harvest and

at harvest time I will tell the reapers Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned but gather the wheat

into my barnrsquo rdquo 36Then he left the crowds and went into the house And his disciples approached him saying ldquoExplain to us

the parable of the weeds of the fieldrdquo 37He answered ldquoThe one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man 38the field is the

world and the good seed are the children of the kingdom the weeds are the children of the evil one 39and the enemy who

sowed them is the devil the harvest is the end of the age and the reapers are angels 40Just as the weeds are collected and

burned up with fire so will it be at the end of the age 41The Son of Man will send his angels and they will collect out of his

kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers 42and they will throw them into the furnace of fire where there will be weeping

and gnashing of teeth 43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father Let anyone with ears lis-

tenrdquo

_______________________________________________________________________________________ Romans 812-25

Pastor It is indeed right our duty and our joy that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to

you almighty and merciful God through our Savior Jesus Christ who on this day overcame death and the grave

and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life And so with all the choirs of angels

with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn

Pastor Let us pray Blessed are you O God maker of all things Through your goodness you have blessed us with

these gifts our selves our time and our possessions Use us and what we have gathered in feeding the world

with your love through the one who gave himself for us Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord
