Use the Startup Wizard to set up your security system. The Wizard lets you
customize basic settings, network settings, application settings, record
settings, and HD settings.
The Startup Wizard will appear on your TV screen when you turn on the
DVR. You will complete nine quick and easy steps to set up the basic
functions of your DVR. Use the USB mouse that came with the DVR to
make your selections on the screen.
Each page includes the following navigation options:
Prev.: Go to the previous step.
Next: Go to the next step.
Cancel: Exit the Startup Wizard without saving changes.
Check “Don’t display this window again” if you do not want to run
the Startup Wizard every time the DVR is powered on.
Note: Have a pen handy to write down information such as your user name
and password. Do not pause for a long period while using the Startup
Wizard, or it will time out and you will need to re-enter your information.

To help keep your system secure, you should create an administrator user
name and password to access the DVR. Be sure to write down this
information in Step 9 of this guide and store it in a secure location. (For
better security, you might want to keep your password in a separate
document.)
Using the mouse that is connected to the DVR, click in a text field to
display the onscreen keyboard. Click outside the keyboard when you
have finished typing.
User Name: Change this name to any name you like.
Password: Enter a password that you will use to log in to the DVR.
Passwords are case-sensitive.
Retype Password: Enter the same password as above.
Once you have written down your user name and password in Step 9 of
this guide, select the Next button to move to the next step.

You should configure the basic settings on your DVR to ensure that it will
display the information in the correct language and record the correct time
and date.
System Tab
Video Format: You will generally not need to change this setting.
Change it only if you are using a PAL television. If you incorrectly
change this setting, you will not see a picture on your TV screen.
Language: If you would like the DVR menus to be displayed in a
language other than English, choose a language (French or
Spanish) from the drop-down menu.

Time Tab
Date/Time: Select a date format and the current date. Select a time
format and enter the current time. If you select the 12-hour format,
you will need to differentiate between AM and PM.
Date Format: Use the drop-down men to, choose the way you
would like the date displayed.
Time Format: Use the drop-down menu, choose the way you
would like the time displayed.
Time Zone: Use the drop-down menu to choose the time zone in
which you are located. Keep in mind that if you have already
manually changed the date/time, it will change again to reflect the
time zone you chose.
Auto Update: Check this box if you would like the DVR to
automatically update the date/time. Keep in mind that this feature
will only work if the network settings have been configured properly.
Time Server: You will generally not need to change this setting.
This is the web address that retrieves the date and time for
automatic updates.

DST Tab
Enable: Check this box if you would like to enable the Daylight
Saving Time settings.
Mode: Depending on the Daylight Saving Time settings, you can
choose between the exact date and the week.
Offset: Depending on the Daylight Saving Time settings, you can
choose between one hour and two hours. Generally this should be
set to one hour.
From: This is the date/time that Daylight Saving Time will begin.
To: This is the date/time that Daylight Saving Time will end.
Once you have changed the settings to fit your needs, select the Next
button to move to the next step.

Refer to the Network Quick Setup Guide or the network settings in the
manual for details on configuring the Network Settings. Make sure that the
DVR is plugged directly into your internet router or modem.
The IP address/DNS server information can automatically be
obtained by the DVR if it is connected to the router/modem. If
automatically obtaining the IP Address /DNS server, make sure that
you have selected “Obtain an IP address automatically” and
“Obtain DNS server address automatically.”
If manually entering the IP Address /DNS server, make sure that
you have selected “Use the following IP address” and “Use the
following DNS address” and enter the correct information.
Once you have changed the settings to fit your needs, select Next.
Step 4: Network Settings

This step shows you all relevant Network settings that were configured in
the previous step.
Write down all of the displayed information below and store it in a secure
location for future reference.
DVR IP Address:
Subnet Mask:
Router IP Address:
Preferred DNS Server:
Alternate DNS Server:
Internet IP Address (WAN):
Once you have written down all of the information, select the Next button to
move to the next step.

Refer to the Network Quick Setup Guide or the network settings in the
manual to create a free DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) and the
ports that will be entered in this step.
DDNS Tab
Once you have created a free DDNS, you can enter the information into the
fields on this page.
DDNS: If you would like to enter your DDNS information, change
this to Enable.
Server: This should be set to NightOwl (when using Night Owl’s
free DDNS service).
Host Name: This should be set to the domain name that you
created during the DDNS registration.
User Name: Your user name is the UserID that you created during
the DDNS registration.
Password: Your password is the password that you created during
the DDNS registration.
Test: This will test the settings to ensure that they work correctly.

Port Tab
Media Port: Change this port to 9000.
Web Port: Change this port to 2049.
Once you have changed the settings to fit your needs, select the Next
button to move to the next step.

You will need to make sure that all of the channels are configured with the
record settings that fit your needs.
Basic Tab
CH: This indicates the channel you are configuring.
Record: Make sure all of the boxes under Record are checked.
Audio: Make sure all of the boxes under Audio are checked. This
will record any audio-enabled cameras that are connected. (This
setting does not affect cameras that do not have audio capabilities.)
Mode: You can select either Schedule or Continuous. Continuous
will record constantly. Schedule will allow you to configure the
settings to record motion, record continuously, or not record.
Copy CH: Select a channel number from which you would like to
copy the settings.
To CH: Select a channel number to which you would like to copy
the settings.
Copy: Select the Copy button to copy the settings to the indicated
channel(s).

Bit Rate Tab
CH: This indicates the channel you are configuring.
Resolution: Choose between D1 (704x480) (High), HD1 (704x240)
(Medium), or CIF (352x240) (Low) resolutions. This is the size of
the image when recorded
Frame Rate: This determines the smoothness of the video during
playback; 30 FPS is real-time video. This should be left at 30.
Quality: Set the recording quality to Good, Better, or Best.
Copy CH: Select a channel number from which you would like to
copy the settings.
To CH: Select a channel number to which you would like to copy
the settings.
Copy: Select the Copy button to copy the settings to the indicated
channel.
Once you have changed the settings to fit your needs, select the Next
button to move to the next step.

Status: This shows if your HDD (hard disk drive) is working
(recording) or not working (no disk).
Capacity Total/Free: This will show the total HDD space and how
much free space is on the HDD. The maximum HDD capacity is 2
terabytes.
Format: Check this box to format an HDD.
Format button: Select this button to format the HDD. Formatting
the HDD will erase all data and allow the DVR to read and write the
files to and from the HDD.
Overwrite: Choose one of three options: “by days”, “by capacity,”
or “never.” This setting will write over the oldest files first.
Max Reserved Days: This option will be shown only if you choose
“by days” in the Overwrite feature.
Once you have changed the settings to fit your needs, select the Next
button to move to the next step.
Step 8: HDD Settings

Be sure to write down all of the important information below and place it in
a secure location.

Once you have written down all of the displayed information, select the
Close button to exit the Startup Wizard.
