Dear PRIA Members and Guests:

Welcome to the 2014 Winter Symposium in Arlington, Va., just outside our nation’s capital. This new location provides easy access to downtown Washington but with closer proximity to Regan National Airport and walking distance to restaurants and shopping.

Setting Standards for Success is our theme and much of our programming will address the multiple initiatives with which PRIA is currently engaged. From legislative agenda to eRecording Best Practices, every attendee should find sessions to attend that meet their needs and from which they can learn different and, we hope, better ways of conducting business.

PRIA was established as the standard-setting body for the property records industry and is committed to not only bringing both government and business the tools they require to engage in eRecording, but other business processes that affect the everyday workflow.

We are pleased to have Ken Gronbach, futurist and demographer, on our program this year. Ken’s presentation is sure to provide intellectual nourishment and coffee break conversation for the next two days.

We are delighted to welcome Rob Chapman, president of American Land Title Association (ALTA), to our lunch on Thursday where he will give up an update on ALTA’s efforts to promote Best Practices within the title industry.

Be sure to attend the Town Hall meeting on Thursday afternoon where you’ll have the opportunity to weigh-in on PRIA’s initiatives and let the leadership know what you need and want from PRIA as your professional organization.

Thank you for the commitment to PRIA and your profession.

If you are not a member, then I urge you to consider making the commitment while you are at the symposium. By joining now, you will pay a prorated membership through July 31, 2014. There is a membership application (for both government and business) included in this program.

On behalf of the PRIA Board of Directors, I want to recognize the Winter Symposium Planning Committee which has worked tirelessly since September to schedule the speakers, develop working sessions and plan social opportunities for this event. Their commitment to the success of this year’s Winter Symposium is invaluable. They have attended to the many details necessary to make this meeting a success. Please take a moment over the next few days to personally thank the committee members for their service to the association.

The PRIA Conference Planning committee members are as follows:• AmyConn,Washington,D.C.,conferenceco-chair• LisaGoldsworthy,MentisTechnology,conferenceco-chair• KimLeGate,DavidsonCo.,Tenn.• CharlieEpperson,SigniaDocs• KathyHaiker,OttawaCo.,Mich.• KarlKlessig,CSC• DianeSwobodaPeterson,WoodburyCo.,Iowa• KarlTrottnow,FirstAmericanMortgageServices

If you have questions, check with the staff and conference committee members who are ready and eager for your feedback. We also welcome any comments and recommendations for future conferences.

kenneth gronbach

On Thursday morning, February 27, Kenneth W. Gronbach, expert in demographics and generational marketing, will present two sessions which will look at the future for the country and, specifically, the real estate industry, from both a macro and micro perspective.

Gronbach trains and entertains his audiences with his own special brand of wit, humor and clear communication. He makes the science of shifting demography come alive with real life examples that make it relevant to today’s culture, business climate and economy.

In his book “Age Curve, How to Profit from the Coming Demographic Storm,” published by The American Management Association, Gronbach charts a fascinating common sense understanding of shifting demography and the related opportunities and challenges.

rob Chapman

Rob Chapman, president of American Land Title Association (ALTA), will be the featured speaker at the Thursday, February 27, luncheon. Chapman will talk about the development of ALTA’s Best Practices and its impact on the title industry.

Chapman is executive vice president and chief information officer (CIO) for Old Republic National Title Insurance Company and has played a vital role in the company’s technology advances.

Chapman joined Old Republic Title in 1996 as manager of Image Technologies for Old Republic Business Information and Technology (ORBIT), which was established to provide company owned locations and customers with image-enabled real estate information.

Prior to joining Old Republic Title, Chapman’s entrepreneurial zeal led him to own and operate two information management companies, one of which was an imaging technology business that focused on the development and implementation of document imaging systems.
