Friedrich von Schmidt designed and built Vienna's CityHall, the most important secular building in the neo-Gothic style in the city, between 1872 and 1883. It isthe official seat of the Mayor and the meeting place ofthe city senate/provincial government and theMunicipal Council/Landtag.

The City Hall is a building of superlatives: The heightof the tower is 97.9 m, plus the so-called "IronRathausmann," which has become a symbol of Vienna.Over 30 million bricks and more than 40,000 cubicmeters of natural stone were used. The Arkadenhof ofCity Hall is one of the biggest inner courtyards inEurope, and Festival Hall is 71 meters long, 20 meterswide and 18.5 meters high. If the fire authorities wereto allow it, 1,500 couples could dance the waltz here atthe same time.

EBD Academy Buzz Session: Out-licensingpresentations: One is not enough

09:00 - 09:45WORKSHOP 2

Level 1, Schubert 6

Effective communication is one of the most importantfactors associated with successful out-licensingstrategies. It is vital in securing you meetings, conveying your message and outlining your aims. However, too many company executives try (and oftenfail) to secure meetings with prospective licensingpartners, in part because their communications(presentations, meeting request text, emails, etc.) arepoorly designed, poorly written, and rarely customized.

In this buzz session, we will focus on how to craft out-licensing presentations that communicate effectively.Topics covered during this presentation include:• Why more than one presentation is necessary• The number and structure of these out-licensingpresentations• Outlines and examples of each kind ofpresentation...and when to use them• How to craft meeting text that increases yourchances of a meeting at a conference• Why "crosschecking" is critical for starting yourpartnering activities early

Attendees will leave this session with acomprehensive understanding of how out-licensingpresentations should be developed, structured anddelivered. After attending, you will increase yourchances of securing meetings with potential partnersat licensing conferences and beyond.

Opening Plenary Discussion: Time to turn theship: Exploring underserved therapeutic areas

11:15 - 12:15Plenary

Level 0, Lehar 3/4

Therapeutic areas outside of oncology, chronicdiseases and CNS spaces tend to be afterthoughts inmany discussions about biotech growth. Underservedtherapeutic areas offer exciting possibilities for futuredevelopment however. These spaces are characterizednot only by small patient populations but also bypatients with poor access to healthcare, bymismatched financial incentives, and high incidence inunfamiliar areas of operation. Often, these areas havesome combination of all four of these features and sodifferent kinds of partnerships and development plansare required. This panel will identify the topunderserved therapeutic areas, explore some of thecurrent efforts to address them and the partnershipsthat are proving to be effective. The panelists willaddress potential areas of future growth and whatneeds to happen in the industry, through policy, research, and funding to bring biotech solutions tounderserved therapeutic areas.

Emerging opportunities for investment andpartnering in “metabesity”

Despite increases in life expectancy over the lastcentury, healthspan—time spent living without chronicdisease—has not significantly increased and remains adriver of immense personal and economic costs.Growing evidence has linked common metabolic rootsto the aging process and multiple chronic diseases, collectively referred to as metabesity. Presently, targeting metabesity indications requires first pursuingestablished gateway indications—T2DM, obesity and, more recently, NASH, all of which come with their owndevelopment, regulatory and market accesschallenges. Nevertheless, a new wave of biotechcompanies with promising assets is targetinghealthspan and other metabesity indications. A widevariety of strategies are being used: pursuing initialorphan indications, novel efficacy composites, andadvanced computational tools, including artificialintelligence. Join our panel as we discuss prospectsand opportunities for investing and partnering inmetabesity programs.

Oncology positioning and partneringstrategies: IO, non-IO, and everything inbetween!

16:00 - 17:00Therapeutic

Level 1, Schubert 5

The clinical and commercial impact of anticancerimmunotherapies cannot be overstated: Durableremissions in subsets of end-stage patients withimmune checkpoint inhibitors and CAR-T therapies, and the ensuing influx of investment and partneringactivity, have been astounding. With the dust startingto settle, however, it is becoming apparent that thepath towards building upon such early IO successeswill be anything but straightforward. In the meantime, more traditional “non-IO” approaches continue togenerate therapeutic responses and revenues. Indeed, the recent successes of tumor-agnostic “basket” trialsserve as powerful reminders of the potential fortargeted therapies in the modern age. Pharmas arechoosing different lanes where they believe they canwin, with some shunning IO altogether while otherschoosing to go all-in with CAR-Ts, for example. Suchstrategies from bellwethers have an impact on howbiotech and investors approach their own decisions, both in terms of where to invest and how to positionthemselves for success. Join us as we explore thetrade-offs and implications of different positioning andpartnering strategies being employed by pharma, biotech, and investors in what promises to be animportant and exciting discussion for anyone lookingto win in the massive but incredibly crowded oncologymarket.
