Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) &

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)

are a growing problem.

Obesity is on the increase.

An estimated 45% of men and 35% of

women are now classified as obese.

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)•CHD causes over 105,000 deaths a year.

•CHD is the most common cause of premature death.•Around 1.3 million people in the UK have had a heart attack and approximately 2 million people are suffering from angina, the most common form of CHD. •Around 675,000 people have definite (and a further 235,000 probable) heart failure.

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)

• Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of death in the UK accounting for just over 216,000 deaths in 2004

• CVD is one of the main causes of premature death: 32% of premature deaths in men and 24% of premature deaths in women are from CVD.

Obesity•In England, the percentage of adults aged 16-64 years who are obese has increased by 50% in the past decade.

•There has also been a steady increase in the of obesity in children, with rates in England doubling in boys and increasing by 30% in girls between 1995 and 2002.

Advice for Inactivity

• What would happen if you tell an Inactive person to go Jogging 3 times a week?

• Park Car further away from work

• Walk children to school

• Wash car by hand

• Sweep Stairs with a brush

• Take children to the park

Advice for Obesity

• Small Achievable Changes!

• Slim Photo on Fridge

• Bar of chocolate changed for a snack size

• Eat Breakfast & not late at Night

• Swap 1 piece of bread for fruit

• Join a Dieting Club - Support

• Treats for any weight loss

Advice for Smoking & Drinking

• Change 2 cups of coffee for water

• Have diet lemonade & wine

• Small Realistic Changes!

• Smoke 1 less Cigarette per day

• GP for Nicotine Patches

Before anyone starts to exercise be it in a gym or your aerobic class

• You MUST ensure that all the participants

complete a PARQ or screening form.

DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO EXERCISE
