DESIRE The fishing vessel Desire was in port with some technical difficulties. She was anchored off shore a week or so ago with problems. She returned, this time tying up to the dock. Rarely do we see a boat of this size tied up at the dock. Built in 1968, she is 67.3 feet long , and built of steel. Home port is Neah Bay, Washington. Previously she was the Sea Lion, prior to that Amber Dawn. She is owned by Fjord Mist LLC. UNCOMMON MUSIC By Evan Kramer Uncommon Music presents the Second Saturday night of music at the Sixes Grange on September 10. The evening features the music of Jack Zack, Bobby Jo Mismo and Kalee and Frankie Shores. The music begins at 7:00pm with doors opening at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5 (or canned food donations for the Common Good, Port Orford’s food bank). This is also the birthday of Robert Pelter. The Grange is located at Sixes River at Highway 101 and has plenty of parking. This is a Blue Suede Shoes Production. BLUEBERRY BASH LANGLOIS, OR—The Blueberry Bash at the Langlois Public Library is where you want to be at 6 pm
this Saturday, September 10. The Bash ends the Library’s fabulous Silent Auction (ongoing since early August), as you snack on wine and cheese. A live baked goods sale of luscious goodies follows, while Bash goers are served homemade blueberry cobbler a la mode. It’s quite the party! Silent Auction items include local sourced food items: lamb, pork, chicken, albacore, veggies, blueberries and cranberries. Bid on a greenhouse, on passes to travel attractions throughout Oregon, on antiques or a mermaid tail blanket. Treat yourself to a night in the Redfish Loft, or at 12 Acres B&B. Need some tractor work, or some
¾ minus? How about a portrait session with a professional photographer? The South Coast may have lost Macy’s, but you have the Langlois Library for exceptional gift shopping and a down home good time! STEPPING BACK IN TIME Every once in awhile I am surprised by my emails… this one is my all time favorite surprise! I love history… and this is a little piece of 1920s meets 2016. Jennifer Mitchell dropped an email with this photograph they recreated a few days ago, on September 4th. She also noted that it was difficult getting out there in the dresses, and Matthew’s hat blew away. According to Jennifer’s email, the top photo was taken in 1920. Guy Weekly is on the left, with possibly one of his sisters in black, and Ora Weekly in white. Ninety-six years later in 2016: Guy’s great-grandchildren (siblings): Matthew Weekly, Jennifer Mitchell and Jessica Varbel recreated the Battle Rock scene.

class is also offered in Gold Beach at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost for the Qigong class is $35. Southwestern offers additional classes for fun, fitness, wellness and relaxation in Curry County from Langlois to Brookings. All of our classes are taught by qualified instructors and offer a safe, affordable and fun opportunity to improve your fitness. For more information or to register please call the Gold Beach Center at 541-247-2741 or the Curry Campus at 541-813-1667. Space is limited so register soon. Fall term runs from September 26 through December 9, 2016. RECAP ON 101 ODOT has begun the survey of 101, and will soon restripe with a center lane, one lane north, one lane south, bike lane and parking. No dates were available for completion as of Tuesday. City council voted to accept the opportunity to see if this will make Port Orford a safer place to drive and cross the street. NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY By Evan Kramer The League of Women Voters of Curry County is participating in the National Voter Registration Drive held on Tuesday, September 27 in Port Orford, Gold Beach and Brookings. League volunteers will have tables set up in all three cities to register voters at Ray’s Market in Port Orford, McKay’s in Gold Beach and Fred Meyer in
Brookings from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The last day to register to vote for the November 8 general election is Tuesday, October 18. The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences the public through education and advocacy. SOLVE PORTLAND, OR - Celebrate our neighborhoods and natural areas by getting outside this fall. Join your friends, neighbors, and thousands of Oregonians from across the state on Saturday, September 24 for the annual SOLVE Beach & Riverside Cleanup, presented by the Oregon Lottery. SOLVE invites volunteers of all ages to help remove invasive plants, restore natural areas, and clean up hundreds of miles of beaches, rivers, parks and neighborhoods before fall rains wash litter and debris into storm drains and out to sea.

POLICE REPORTS
SAVE THE DATE: SOLVE, Saturday, September 24 from 10 am to 1 pm (times may vary by site). SOLVE and presenting sponsor the Oregon Lottery, along with over 5,000 Oregonians, will mobilize across the state for the 33rd annual Beach & Riverside Cleanup. This event is
part of the International Coastal Cleanup and National Public Lands Day. Volunteers can find over 100 projects, including 46 beach cleanups coastwide, at solveoregon.org or by calling 503-844-9571 x332. From the headwaters of the Willamette River to the Oregon coast, water connects us all. Despite our shared landscape and ethic of stewardship, Oregon's waterways and natural areas are facing serious threats from diminishing wildlife habitat, invasive plants, and litter which flows downstream to our rivers and out to the ocean. Join your fellow Oregonians this September as we support the health of our state, and clean up litter from source to sea. "A common thread that binds nearly all Oregonians together is how much we all take pride in our state," said Oregon Lottery Acting Director Barry Pack. "And one of the things we can all be proud of is how SOLVE and thousands of Oregonians have been helping make Oregon a special place for 47 years. As a long-time supporter of SOLVE and events like SOLVE's Beach & Riverside Cleanup, the Oregon Lottery encourages everyone to find a SOLVE event in their area and continue the great work that SOLVE has been doing for decades." The Beach & Riverside Cleanup is made possible by: Presenting Sponsor the Oregon Lottery; Legacy Sponsor - Metro; Major
Sponsors - Clean Water Services, Fred Meyer, Pacific Power, and Wells Fargo; Coordinating Sponsors - Local Coast Haulers and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department; Media Sponsors - K103fm, and KOIN 6; Supporting Sponsors - Chevron and Skanska; Community Sponsor - NW Natural.
