May 2015

We're making progress!

We now know the Rev.

Donna Brown will begin

serving All Saints’ the

first full week in June.

She will be joined around the first of August by the

Rev. Ken Brown.

They will help us navigate the dance known as "the

traditional search process.” (By the time this is print-

ed we will have had Canon Pat Grace's presentation

on that process.) Foremost in their time with us will

be their spiritual leadership!

This Saints Alive should arrive around Barbeque time,

therefore, we should all be very busy. This is an im-

portant event in the life of our parish. Yes, it's hard

work but it's always been a relationship building as-

pect for our church family. There are jobs for all tal-

ents and physical abilities! If you aren't scheduled to

work yet...do so!!

The end of the school year looms ahead. That means

vacations and other diversions. All Saints’ will be

here providing sanctuary and comfort 24/7. Don't

forget about your church home during this time. Re-

member: your church needs you; be there for it now

so that it will be there when you need it!

Remember what is written in Jeremiah 29:11- "For

sure I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord,

plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a

future with hope."

Peace and blessings, Sarah Gose

April our youth were spiritually active in handing out food bags at Food on Food on Foot, iDYG Hike in the Park, ran the Pancake Dinner fol-lowed up by the No Talent Necessary Talent Show and traveled to Knoxville for the Knoxville Episcopal Youth Dinner.

Youth Schedule for May:

May 3 Sunday Sunday during Sunday School

May 3 Sunday Graduation at 10:30 Service

May 15 Friday iDYG Bonfire 8pm-11pm

John Hutchins, Vestry Liaison for Youth

Grace Point Apps due by April 30t Work Camp 6/14-17 $210. Camp Billy Johnson 6/6-11 Youth will sponsor one camper: cost $390. Staff Cost $100.

The Outreach Committee met in March, and thanks to your generosity, the Agape in Action/Food on Foot project was receiving ample food supplies at that time. The consensus was that the Food on Foot Wednesday night programs will continue through the summer but will be meeting only on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays - perhaps with some new fun ven-ues. The group felt that perhaps the summer pro-gram might be needed more than the school week-end food program. Even though the economy is im-proving, the hungry poor are seeing little improve-ment in their situation nationwide, so please contin-ue your support of Food on Foot.

Larry McGowan reported that Lend a Hand had three small projects in the works which at the time of our meeting had been delayed by the poor weather con-ditions. Please let Larry know of any Parish needs.

Outreach is planning to donate a basket based on our ASEC BBQ for the ALPS Gourmet Gala. This fund-raiser benefits the Florence Terry Scholarship Fund which helps low-income families participate in the ALPS program.

The ECW's next project will be working to provide funding for Camp Billy Johnson at Grace Point this summer. This camp depends completely on dona-tions to cover the camping experience cost for chil-dren 7 to 11 who cannot normally afford to go to summer camp. In conjunction with the ECW, we hope to be able to send two children to camp from the Morristown area.

The Outreach Committee will continue to support Central Services in their quest to serve the hungry and needy in Morristown and Hamblen County. Do-nations have been up recently, and I thank you and hope you will continue to add a couple of extra items to your basket when you go grocery shopping for this Organization. Hunger remains a big problem in this area.

Blessings to all , Ginger Goolsby, Outreach Liaison

Buildings and Grounds

As another month passes, we have been lucky

and not had any breakdowns or big repair projects; so I

am glad that there isn’t much to report. Our non-working

ice machine is now working again as the back ordered

part finally arrived. All low hanging limbs of the trees in

the playground and around the church have been re-

moved.

Then yesterday as I was weeding the flower bed

outside the sacristy, I kept asking myself “how can I get

other people to schedule some of their time to help with

the weeding and pruning jobs around the church?” We

don’t have many garden areas but in the next few

months I will be under the weather preventing manual

labor, so your help will be required if the weeds are to be

kept in check! So please if you see a weed - pull or dig it!

Also, don’t forget to help with the BBQ - there

are jobs for everyone!

WORSHIP MINISTRY CORNER

I would like to say what a beautiful and inspiring Easter service we had. My heart was full of joy seeing all the pews full of our parish family. First I would like to thank all the people that came to help with the Easter flora. This was really a great help and would love to continue the tradition not only for Easter but also for Christmas. Second I would like to give a special thank you to our alter guild. Without them we could not have a service and often their work goes unnoticed. This was truly and act of wor-ship. All of our parish members that helped with these ministries all that I can say is bless you, bless you, bless you! This also includes acolytes, flower guild, presenters, ushers, chalice bearers, lay readers, lectors, and sound. Third I would like to thank Ryan Garber and our parish choir for their hard work for without their ministry we would not have beautiful music for our services.

The Schubert Mass was a great success. Kudos goes to Ryan Garber, Parish Choir and the mu-sicians for their great endeavor.

I look forward to working on our worship services and I must say how great it is to have Gigi and Jim Sharp helping our Parish. They give with all their heart and ask for very little and we are truly blessed to have both of them.

The next Worship Committee Meeting is May 5th at 6pm. All those involved in worship please attend and I also encourage all those who would like to serve on the alter to please get in touch with me. This is truly an honor for the glory of God.

Thank you, Vestry Liaison for Worship, David Burnette

Canterbury Tales” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

This passage from Matthew 22:37-39 is an illustration of what Project Canterbury wants to do: to increase our spirituality and spread God’s love into the world. Project Canterbury is composed of college students and young adults who meet twice a month. In our most recent gathering, there were eight young adults who attended, 5 white and 4 Hispanic, in addition to the Selbys and our Deacons. We enjoyed a delicious spaghetti dinner and listened to our special guest speaker, Mr. Willie Santana. Mr. Santana is an attorney with Capps, Cantwell, Capps & Byrd and also the founder of the Latino Task Force (LTF). LTF is a local coali-tion that tries to increase harmony between whites and Latinos in our community, while also addressing some of the difficulties the Latino community faces, such as the inability for Latino children to receive a library card. LTF hopes to work on three key areas in the near future:

increasing coverage in local media of positive stories involving Hispanics;

spreading the word about ESL and Spanish classes currently available in the community, and providing venues for folks to socialize and use their new language skills; and

holding a Hispanic food festival. (What better way to unite people than with food!)

After Mr. Santana’s invigorating talk, we went on to unfinished business from our previous gathering: a tied game in Trivial Pursuit! The dice-rolling and laughter that followed created a sort of melody. The game progressed and my team was losing, which I didn’t take lightly as I am very competitive, but even my desire to win was overcome by love. The verse from Matthew above teaches us that we must remain as loving towards God as we possibly can, and we must share this very same love with those around us. That is part of Project Canterbury’s mission: helping those in need and helping to create a more harmoni-ous society based on God’s love. I leave you with another quote from Matthew that I hope Project Can-terbury and everyone else in the world will follow: “For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in.”

-- Jose Sanchez

Next Project Canterbury meeting will be Sunday, May 3!
