Student veterans of past and present now have a place to call their own here at Carteret Community

College. The Veterans Student Success Center is located in the Bryant building, and offers panoramic

views of the water, a comfortable lounge with computers and a printer, and a kitchenette with a warm

cup of coffee.

Hank Hingley is the coordinator of the new Veterans Center. Hingley is a veteran who retired after

serving 24 years in the United States Marine Corps. He has degrees in social psychology and psychology,

the latter he obtained from East Carolina University. In addition to his work at the center, Hingley

teaches psychology at CCC. Hingley’s first impressions of Carteret Community College are the people,

whom he says are extremely nice and very helpful, adding that the campus is very student oriented.

Mr. Hingley is very passionate about helping those who have served. The center provides advising,

counseling, and whatever other military affiliated service that student veterans might need. A year from

now he says he sees the Veterans Center as a hub for veterans. A place they can share stories and get

support from their military brothers and sisters. Hingley says he believes that education is the key to

opportunity.
