Welcome to Worship at First Presbyterian ChurchNeenah, Wisconsin

We are grateful for your presence and invite you to participate in the life and ministry of our congregation.

If you are new to First Presbyterian, please identify yourself by wearing one of the red roses found in the hymnal rack. We ask all present today to sign and read the friendship pads as they are passed down each pew and returned to the center aisle. This is an opportunity for us to know and greet one another by name at the end of the service.

We invite you to join us for coffee and conversation – in the hallway outside the Church Office after the 8:00 a.m. service, and out on the patio for “Super Sundae” ice cream and Cherry Crisp after the 9:30 a.m. service (weather permitting).

Childcare (infants and toddlers through 2 years old) is available throughout Sunday morning (7:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.) in the nursery located next to Fellowship Hall. You are welcome to keep your infant or small child with you in church. If your infant or small child needs care or becomes uncomfortable during the service, you may leave and return as you wish. The audio portion of the 9:30 a.m. service can be heard in the chapel where you and your child are also welcome.

Children are invited to pick up a worship bag and a Bible as they enter the Chapel for the 8:00 a.m. or the Nave for the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Please remember to return the worship bags to the stands and the Bibles to the shelves when worship concludes.

Worship Enrichment (ages 3 years old – 1st grade): Following the Children’s Time during the 9:30 a.m. worship service, parents may, if they wish, take their children to Worship Enrichment, which is located in the preschool room, next to the library. Worship Enrichment offers time for children to learn stories, games, songs, and crafts based upon familiar Bible lessons.

The Greeters are Deacon Debbie Griffith, who will be at the Doty Avenue entrance, and Elder Heather Miller, who will be in the Cloister.

The flowers today are given by Carolyn and George Grigsby.

The Ushers at the 8:00 a.m. service are Mary and Dale Winkler.

We thank Doug Komandt for providing his services as organist for today’s worship.

First Presbyterian has a hearing loop for hearing aid users equipped with T-coils. Brochures explaining this new feature are available in the pews and on the information desk outside the Church Office.

Large print hymnals and bulletins are available, please ask an usher.

Call to Worship and Prayer of the Day (From the Call to Worship ©2003 Office of Theology and Worship and The Book of Common Worship ©1993 Westminster/John Knox Press)

Sing aloud to God our strength, shout for joy to the God of Jacob!Raise a song, sound the tambourine, on lyre and harp make melody to God.

Let us offer to God our sacrifice of praise, for you alone are worthy. For you, O God, declared never to forsake us. So we sing with joy and will not be afraid.

Almighty God, judge of us all, you have placed in our hands the wealth we call our own. Through your Spirit, give us wisdom, that our possessions may not be a curse, but a means of blessing in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

* Hymn 430 Come Sing, O Church, in Joy! DARWALL’S 148TH

* Prayer of ConfessionSource of all good things, we have stored up treasure that does not last, and fill ourselves with bread that does not sustain. We have looked to other providers, when only you can truly satisfy our deepest hunger and thirst. Forgive us for seeking elsewhere what you have already given us so richly in Jesus, our Lord. Stir our hearts with your Spirit. Clothe us with the new self, that Christ may be our all in all.

(Moment for silent prayers of confession)

Lunchtime Organ recitals are free and held each week during the summer months. On Wednesday, August 14, a recital will be at First United Methodist Church (200 N. Drew St., Appleton) from 12:15 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. The organist will be Thomas F. Froehlich. For future recital dates and locations, go to www.lunchtimeorganrecital.org .

Save the Date! September 8! We’re sending First Presbyterian students back to school with our prayers and blessings! Students and educators are encouraged to bring their backpacks to the 10:15 a.m. service on Sunday, September 8, so they can receive a special blessing.

The Christian Education Committee is in need of one or more additional teachers so that we can continue to provide our Wee Worship program. Wee Worship is for children ages 3 years - 1st grade. It runs September through May following “A Time for Children” during the 10:15 a.m. service. The Wee Worship teachers alternate leading the program one Sunday each month. Wee Worship is a developmentally appropriate sequence for worship that involves listening, thinking, and wondering. It is designed to allow children to experience God in a setting that is similar to a regular worship service but geared to the young child. A scripted lesson is provided – no experience necessary! If you are interested in helping or hearing more about this rewarding opportunity, please contact Stephanie Mille ([email protected]).

Check out the "Volunteer from the Heart" table. The table is located near the Church Office Sunday mornings, 8:45 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Stop by and sign up to participate in the mission and ministry of our church.
