ANDY & KRISTEN W.
Wycliffe Bible Translators
-West Africa-
This year Andy and Kristen celebrated 20 years as
members of Wycliffe Bible Translators. Since the year
2000, your prayers and financial partnership have
ministered to the people in West Africa, through their
work with Wycliffe. The task they set upon was to translate the New Testament into the
heart language of an unreached people group. They regularly faced obstacles that could
have hindered the process but they are happy to report that by God’s grace they are
about one year from completion!
In a recent newsletter, they gave a picture of some of the day-to-day challenges that can
become a distraction to their work:
We find that it’s a lot of work to maintain stable electricity, water and internet connec-
tions at our house. We don’t see how the time, energy & money we spend on these
mundane tasks contribute to building God’s kingdom. When the pump isn’t working
and the electric box goes out again, we find ourselves praying for God’s will to be done
with our time & energy. We also pray for a right attitude as we approach tasks that we
often categorize as problems. Are they distractions to keep Andy from translation and
language work? Or are we missing something God wants to do in us and through us?
As they ponder what these daily changes mean, they are also in the midst of transitions.
These transitions begin with a brief trip to the U.S. for Christmas and to attend a wed-
ding for Kristen’s brother in 2018. Andy will only be here for two weeks and then he has
to get back to begin typesetting and to prepare for a conference in Ethiopia. After type-
setting is complete, they will begin planning the dedication of the New Testament and
moving their family to another country within the Sahel Region. Their boys have been
accepted to a missionary school within that country beginning in August 2018. It will be
good for them to learn alongside other students; have interactions with a youth group;
and hopefully make good friends.
Their work will not change with this major transition. Andy will have lots of opportunity
to promote scripture use from this location where a mother tongue speaking fellowship
for their language group meets regularly. He will also need to make frequent trips to
train new translation teams as they begin work on the Old Testament.
Andy and Kristen thank you for journeying alongside their family in this ministry of mak-
ing God’s Word accessible and acceptable to the communities Wycliffe serves. They also
thank you for your prayers “as they give the people [there] a spiritual margin, a buffer
where the enemy must stand back, so that God’s truth can penetrate their lives.”
To protect Andy & Kristen and their ministry, we cannot mention their exact location
and people group. Please do not share or post this information online.
