FOR STARTERS:What made your mother (or other motherly figure) special when you were growing up?

QUICK REVIEW:On mother’s day, Pastor Will gave us five biblical reasons to honor God by honoring our mothers. 1. Honor her powerful vision. 2. Honor her powerful influence. 3. Honor her powerful love. 4. Honor her powerful courage. 5. Honor her powerful sacrifice. For each reason, he offered the powerful example of Jochebed, the mother of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

DIGGING DEEPER:1. Honor Her Powerful Vision

A. Considering Exodus 2:2 and your own experience, how do mothers typically view their children?

B. Considering Psalm 139:13-16, how does God view all of His children?

C. What is it about the gift of vision that God has given to mothers that makes them so special?

A. How does Proverbs 22:6 inform your understanding of the influence of parents and specifically mothers?

A. Read John 19:26-27 and discuss Jesus’ example in honoring His mother even in the worst moment of His life.

B. Read Isaiah 66:13 and discuss the blessing of a mother’s love that God has given us.

4. Honor Her Powerful Courage

A. Read Exodus 2:2-3 and discuss Jochebed’s courage in saving Moses. Have you seen mothers show similar courage?

B. What does Hebrews 11:23 say was the reason for Jochebed’s courage?

5. Honor Her Powerful Sacrifice

A. Read Acts 7:20-21. What did Jochebed sacrifice for Moses?

B. Ultimately, what did Jochebed’s sacrifice mean for her son and her people?

GROUP CHALLENGE:Challenge each other to reach out to your moms and/or motherly figures this week and honor them for all that they have done for you. If you are unable to reach them, praise God for His good work through them in your life.

FOR PRAYER:Pray that Northwest Church and the whole world would learn to honor mothers as the Lord has commanded.
