CASE HISTORY: Kartell “Mod. 4875” chair (Bartoli, 1974)
This chair is based onto an architecture of thirteen components, all made of the same polymer (PP), except for the rubber feet. This approach follows the other adopted for this type of furniture, who aimed to get an unique part in an injection shot; the latter is a different production strategy, with its advantages and disatvantages…

CASE HISTORY: Kartell “Mod. 4875” chair (Bartoli, 1974): concept drawings
In these sketches Bartoli tried to match the “design for plastics” approach for “net shape” components, got by injection moulding; therefore he studied details concerning ejection direction, undercuts, rigidity ribs, draft angles etc.

CASE HISTORY: Kartell “Mod. 4875” chair (Bartoli, 1974): technical drawings
In these drawings it is possible to recognize the most important critical details for the product, like the pieces assembly and the seat backside undercut, who needed a “side core” ejection

CASE HISTORY: Kartell “Mod. 4875” chair (Bartoli, 1974): mould drawings
These complex technical drawings of the mould demonstrate how difficult is to design a good product exploiting advanced technologies. A mould is another product, even much more challenging, that surrounds the product people see…

CASE HISTORY: Kartell “Mod. 4875” chair (Bartoli, 1974): testing
Testing of a product normally follows prototyping. In the past was necessary to plan a testing campaign considering a lot of prototypes. Nowadays a prototype can be “validated” by computer calculation (CAT) so that “virtual” prototypes can be studied, saving both time and money
