Provided detailed theoretical and experi-mental analysis of X-ray surface back diffraction. Gave lectures on X-ray diffrac-tion to graduate students and supervised MS diploma students.

Results

Design of beamline controls for Sectors 18 and 23 at the Advanced Photon Source that have been recognized by international users community for their high efficien-cy and convenience. This includes lead in the design of JBluIce-EPICS beamline control system for high-throughput protein crystallography of micron-sized crystals. Essential contributions to the theories of grazing incidence, Bragg-Laue, and mul-tiple X-ray diffraction by crystals, X-ray scattering from interface roughness, and X-ray diffraction by strained multilayers, as well as parametric X-ray radiation by re-lativistic electrons. An author of a series of new techniques for materials research with X-rays and a suite of data analysis programs available through internationally recognized X-ray Server (http://x-server.gmca.aps.anl.gov).

Publications Authored 67 publications in per-reviewed journals and conference proceedings in-cluding those in the Physical Review, Journal of Applied Physics, Acta Crystallo-graphica, Nuclear Instruments and Methods, Journal of Synchrotron Radiation, and etc. Co-authored 152 conference abstracts and gave 8 invited talks at International Conferences in US, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Reviewing Has reviewed for Physical Review Letters, Physical Review, Acta Crystallographi-ca, Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics, Journal of Physics, and Physica Status Solidi.
