The mission of Charity organization Serbs for Serbs is to affect on consciousness of Americans, Serbs and their friends through planned projects, social and humanitarian activities in order to develop and foster better future generations and provide aid for underprivileged families in need. Ambitions

Our mission The mission of Charity organization Serbs for Serbs is to affect on consciousness of Serbian people through our projects and humanitarian activities, in order to develop better society for future generations.

Why Serbs for Serbs? We wanted to alleviate impaired spirit of Serbian people in togetherness and brotherhood help through humanitarian work and social aid.

Who do we help? We help Serbian families who live in the Balkans, have five or more children and live in terrible poverty. Under terrible poverty we define absence of one or more basic factors required for living: food, clothes, shoes, and safe space for living.

Why do we help? We believe that there is a basic need for one human (or a group) to help others in distress. A help is not only human virtue but also a Christian responsibility. By focusing our help on families with many children, we directly affect on their stirring toward becoming independent from social-dependable government programs.

What are our long term goals? • family is ready to support itself daily and

manage to pay all required expenses;

• their children are encouraged to continue with school and raising their own family;

• our donors are satisfied with the activities and they are ready to help other families;

• our organization is satisfied with the results;

• family is ready in the future to become our donor and if necessary help other families that are in need of help.

Who do we need in organization? We need members and donors that will secure financial stability through supporting our programs and activities in the future. Donors may join our daily activities within the organization in order to coordinate our work better. We also need volunteers ready to donate several hours per week for actual work within the organization. Activities of volunteers and their specific tasks would be determined by the required projects and their personal interest. From that group of volunteers we would look for future leaders of organization.

After visiting family Novakovic, representatives of the organization continued to Sombor where we delivered charity help for the eleven-member family Vujakovic. In a small rented apartment on the last floor we found father Savo (58), who has a temporary job (three months); Jelica (46), who is unemployed and has heart condition; Srdjana (17), pupil in the Agricultural high school and perhaps a future student of the Faculty of Agriculture; Bozana (13), a pupil of eight grade, who is together with her brother Sava (11) who is in sixth grade singing in a church choir and participating in numerous school competitions; Slavica (16), Miljana (15); Milica (20); Dragan (22); Svetlana (19) and Sinisa (21). This humble family lives on social benefit and of what Savo earns.

School equipment for the youngest

Thanks to our donors we managed to provide the school equipment, hygiene and wardrobe. The City of Sombor ceded the apartment to the family, but they won't be able to stay there for longer period. They sent a request for a permanent housing solution to the City of Sombor.

We thank all the donors whose help enabled us to realize another project in the organization Serbs for Serbs. Thank you for providing a better future for this family!

We urge you to continue being humane and help those who need it. New actions continue.

LET US BE HUMANE!

FAMILY GLUHOVIC RECEIVED TRACTOR FROM SFS

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs from the Republic of Srpska donated at the end of August an used tractor (8.000 KM) to family Gluhovic. Nenad and Maja Gluhovic have nine children: Bogdan (16), Nevena (14), Suzana (12), Gorica (10), Dragoljub and Dusan (8 – twins), Dusica (5), Snezana (3) and Jovana (4 months old). The family lives in the village Bozine, about 10 km away from Rogatica. They own 3 cows and 30 sheep, and 4 ha of land. They are cultivating it on their own, without machines, and they are also working for a wage at their neighbors’.

Family Gluhovic in front of their house

Nenad’s mother is living with them. She has managed to cultivate 200 kg of beans on her own.

Several years ago the Association of mothers with four and more children included Maja into the program of the Ministry for sport and youth of the Republic of Srpska, and they built them a house next to the old one. The house looks nice, but they only sleep in it, because there is no water in the village. During the day they are still staying at grandmother’s house and use rainwater or water from the well.

The youngest Gluhovic enjoy their tractor which will

help them in agriculture business

Family Gluhovic contacted us because their son Bogdan is finishing his schooling (for a welder), and he decided to stay on their land. He is accompanying his father in working for a wage. In most of the cases they don’t receive money, but the neighbors help them with their tractors.

During our first visit we agreed to buy a tractor for Bogdan because he could work without anyone’s help for the family, and he could also work on other peoples’ land and thus earn money. That could help Bogdan to stay on his land and later sustain his family. Charity organization Serbs for Serbs bought a tractor for Bogdan for 8.000 KM. The family found a tractor in the next village. In order to get it as cheap as possible, they didn’t ask for a trailer or any other appliance, because they want to earn for that. However, the tires on the tractor were bad, so they asked us to buy a new ones, which we did and paid 730 KM for them.

New tires for tractor

During our second visit we were able to see the donation we provided thanks to our donors. On this occasion we helped a child who had to grow up very quickly.

The children are overjoyed with the tractor, and whenever they have the opportunity or Bogdan is not using it, the younger children are pretending to drive it. Bogdan and his family thank all the people of good will who fulfilled their dreams and enabled Bogdan to provide a job for himself.

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs continues with great projects across the Republic of Srpska and in Herzegovina. We call upon all the donors worldwide to SUPPORT all future actions of our organization.

SFS HELPED FAMILIES IN BANIJA AND LIKA

SfS with family Knezevic

After the successfully Easter action in Krajina, members of the organization Serbs for Serbs visited several families from Krajina at the end of September. We visited four families on Banija area, in Kostajnica and Dvoron Una. Within the new action of help we delivered help for two families in Gracac, whom we didn’t visit on this occasion. The planned help consists in the following:

• Construction material for house upgrading – 800 €

• Two mattresses for children beds – 155 €

• Five sheep – 500 € • Two wood-burning stoves – 900 €

• Bathroom material – 600 €

On our journey, we first visited the memorial area in Jasenovac, where we paid tribute to the victims of this notorious concentration camp. After that, the first family we visited in Kostajnica was family Knezevic, consisting of parents Miso and Dragica and children Luka (9) and Una (5). We plan to help this family along with the fraternal organizations Radosti moja from Germany and SPO(J)I from Austria, so SfS provided two mattresses for children beds.

The first family we visited was family Joka, consisting of parents Milenko and Una and their three daughters: Tara (5), Mila (4) and Nika (9 months old). Grandparents Nikola and Ljubica also live with them.

Family household is hard to reach, and we had to go on foot at one part of the road. We delivered wood-burning stove and a package of baby hygiene for this family.

Another family we visited was an eight-member family Grcic, with six minor children. The family consists of parents Dusko and Ljiljana and children: Dusica (16), Marina (15), Dubravka (14), Aleksandar (10), Milka (6) and Mario (5). This hardworking returnee family is getting material for repairing and equipping the bathroom, because it is their greatest concern at the moment.

Part of the action will be conducted in Gracac in Lika, where we will provide help for families Plecas and Drobac. Family Plecas consists of parents Nikola and Milena and their four daughters: Jovana (8), Milica (6), Jelena (4) and Nikolina (1). We will provide construction material for upgrading the house.

We already managed to provide urgent help for family of Zoran and Nedeljka Drobac, due to the difficult condition of their daughter Sara (10), who is having a cerebral paralysis. The family received a wood-burning stove which will mean a lot to them during the winter.

We must emphasize that we delivered to each of the visited families several icons, donated by the priesthood of the St. George church from Banovo Brdo, Belgrade.

A wood stove for the family Drobac

Unfortunately, almost all the families we visited face similar difficulties. People cannot find permanent employment, so they survive through animal husbandry and agriculture or by working for a wage. We plan to help more actively the returnee families to provide normal living conditions or enable the help to improve their current animal husbandry or agriculture. As well as across Krajina, Serbian people on Banija, apart from the socio-economic problems, have to deal with the pressures of other kind. Therefore, we call upon all of those who have forgot that there is still the Serbian people in Krajina, to help our activities in that area. We also call upon those who have supported us so far, to bring the hope to Serbian children of the better future. Let us not allow that the Serbian people in Krajina easily forget their root due to the lack of concern in Serbia. We use this opportunity to thank the wholeheartedly help of the priesthood of the Diocese of Gornji Karlovac, without whom we wouldn’t be able to plan and deliver the agreed help.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF POVERTY!

Having the poverty rate of 24.6 percent, Serbia takes the first place in Europe with 700.000 people living below the poverty line. The organization Serbs for Serbs has helped more than 400 families in nine years. We are witnesses of moral collapse, lost of security and

perspective, devastation of traditional values and the attempt to establish new ones based on the pure

materialist worldview, nihilistic and hedonistic life.

We are witnesses that young people are brought to the state of apathy, and they are not interested of the life going around them. In that distorted value system a group of mindful and young people from homeland and abroad emerged, to which Igor V. Stevanovic joined in 2009 as a volunteer. Today he is a coordinator of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs for the Southeast Serbia, and a student of the final year of Faculty of Law in Nis.

What distinguishes Serbs for Serbs from other similar organizations?

Besides the fact that the organization is primarily consisted of young people, the most specific about this charity organization is that it has from its establishment functioned completely transparently, because all the donations the donors sent could be seen on the website of the charity organization (www.srbizasrbe.org), and every help to the families was documented by photos and bills.

The organization gained great trust in Serbia and abroad?

Transparency attracted great number of donors especially from abroad, who have had very bad experience with many charity organizations during the last 20 years, because the help didn’t arrive to the right

place. For the trust we earned in Diaspora, the most credit go to our registered branches in the Republic of Srpska, United States of America, Switzerland, Austria and recently Germany.

When did you join the organization?

This way of working drew me to join as a volunteer five years ago when I was almost 18, and to help primarily the endangered families in Southeast Serbia, because there are a lot of large families who live in very difficult conditions.

What is the situation in Serbia regarding poverty?

As official data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia show, having the poverty rate of 24.6 percent, Serbia takes the first place among the poor countries of Europe. In Serbia alone there are over 700.000 people below the poverty rate, so we have tried since the beginning to help where it was most needed and where there are most endangered.

Is there a data of how many families you helped so far?

During nine years, we helped over 400 families with over 1.500 children.

JURIST AND HUMANITARIAN

Igor V. Stevanovic was born in Nis in 1992. He finished elementary school Cele kula and Gymnasium 9th May in Nis, after which he enrolled in the Faculty of Law in Nis and is currently attending fourth year. Organization Serbs for Serbs was founded in 2005. The aim of the organization was to animate our people in Serbia and abroad to jointly help those who need help the most, and those are large families in Serbia and in other countries where the Serbian families live. Igor V. Stevanovic is a coordinator for Southeast Serbia, the editor-in-chief of the Austrian-German youth magazine SPOJI and the president and co-founder of the student-pupil association ORNAS in the University of Nis.

Which families have you also helped?

In the area of Vranje we helped the seven-member family Stojiljkovic from Golemo Selo by providing cement, sand and other material to arrange the rooms in which they live, because the house is not plastered and there are a lot of holes, so there was a danger for five young children to meet the winter in inhumane

conditions, and the five-member family Aleksic from the village Grdanja, by buying the material for repairing the house.

You also had an action during the spring floods?

Due to great May floods we commenced an action which is still in progress, Fight against the floods, and we collected so far nearly 600.000 EUR of help which would be used for the repair of the flooded objects and other help to the families from Serbia and the Republic of Srpska which were hit.

How much money did the organization collect so far?

According to our report, by the end of August 2014 we collected over 1.000.000 EUR.

What is your organization’s motto?

In short, the philosophy of our organization is reflected in the old Chinese proverb: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. We are primarily focused in providing the families with enduring help, which comes to the fore mostly with the families living in countryside.

What does the help consist of?

The help usually consists of buying hens, goats, pigs, cows, cultivating machines and other things necessary for the family to stand on its own feet. We also had several big actions in which we bought or renovated the households.

You also had a successful sport project?

Since 2012 in cooperation with the Basketball Alliance of Serbia we commenced a charity-sport project Trojka iz bloka, which was held in over 15 towns so far, and whose aim is to provide bathrooms to endangered families which didn’t have a bathroom, and thanks to the tournament we built over 10 bathrooms. Due to the May floods we decided that help gathered in the scope of this project would be directed to the flooded ones.

You are very active in the Pcinja area?

Regarding the Pcinja area, I must say I am particularly attached to that area because I am from Vranje by origin, so the situation in that area affected me greatly. We managed to organize a branch of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs in Nis in whose work are

included about a dozen of volunteers who managed to help fifteen families from the Southeast Serbia in four years.

Members of the humanitarian organization Serbs for

Serbs

Our newspaper has a good cooperation with you?

We owe special thank in our work in the Pcinja area to the Charity bridge and Vesti from Frankfurt who published the texts about the unfortunate destinies of families from Vranje and surrounding villages and enabled us to find out about those families and help them according to our possibilities.

We helped several families so far. I would like to greet your readers and thank them for the help they are sending, because I was personally convinced how much that help meant to those poor families.

After the text in Vesti about the Antic family from Drenovac near Vranje you helped this extremely poor family.

The state in which father Novica and mother Dusanka with their children Miljana, Aleksandar, Stefana and Dimitrije lived was unworthy of life in the 21st century. The condition was made more difficult by the facts that the father had an alcohol issue, which he was trying to cure, and that the mother had psychic problems, difficulties in communication and inability to take care of herself. All the burden of running the household was placed on the oldest son Aleksandar and oldest daughter Miljana. We provided for the Antic family: a new household, two folding beds, two comforters, elementary groceries, two goats, five laying hens, freezer, wood-burning stove, chainsaw, four sacks of flour, and four sacks of food for the hens.
