Ambitions

Our mission The mission of Charity organization Serbs for Serbs is to affect on consciousness of Serbian people through our projects and humanitarian activities, in order to develop better society for future generations.

Why Serbs for Serbs? We wanted to alleviate impaired spirit of Serbian people in togetherness and brotherhood help through humanitarian work and social aid.

Who do we help? We help Serbian families who live in the Balkans, have five or more children and live in terrible poverty. Under terrible poverty we define absence of one or more basic factors required for living: food, clothes, shoes, and safe space for living.

Why do we help? We believe that there is a basic need for one human (or a group) to help others in distress. A help is not only human virtue but also a Christian responsibility. By focusing our help on families with many children, we directly affect on their stirring toward becoming independent from social-dependable government programs. Indirectly, we want to affect on birth rate of Serbian people that has been in great decline in last 20 years.

What are our long term goals? • family is ready to support itself daily and manage to pay all required expenses and bills;

• their children are encouraged to continue with school and raising their own family;

• our donors are satisfied with the activities and they are ready to help other families;

• our organization is satisfied with the results;

• family is ready in the future to become our donor and if necessary help other families that are in need of help.

Who do we need in organization? We need members and donors that will secure financial stability through supporting our programs and activities in the future. Donors may join our daily activities within the organization in order to coordinate our work better. We also need volunteers ready to donate several hours per week for actual work within the organization. Activities of volunteers and their specific tasks would be determined by the required projects and their personal interest. From that group of volunteers we would look for future leaders of organization.

SFS VISITED FAMILIES IN THE RASKA REGION

On Saturday and Sunday, the 3rd and 4th of November 2012, representatives of Serbs for Serbs visited the families Balovic and Komatina in the Raska region. The reason for the the visit was to personally observe the construction progress on the home of the Balovic family in the Village of Rajetice near Novi Pazar. We were able to confirm what was still needed to be completed and what was needed in regards to furniture which would allow this wonderful family to enter this winter in their new home. We also used this opportunity to gift the Balovic family some basic hygienic necessities as well as a computer donated by RATEL. During this visit to the Raska region, we also visited the Komatina family from the Radaljica village in the Golija mountain region, a family our organization has helped in the past. The six member Balovic family’s home is under construction, as the first project of this type for the Serbs for Serbs organization with the support of our donors and friends of the organization. We are extremely excited that this largely significant project is nearing completion and the Balovic family will get to spend the winter in their new home. We were able to confirm the progress with our visit on the 3rd of November when we happened upon the contractors who were working on the interior finishes of the home. The house is comprised of two bedrooms, a main hallway, bathroom, kitchen and living room with a dining area. The children have already chosen their own rooms and for the time, Veljko will have his own room. Tihomir and Milica have decided they will sleep in the living room.

In regards to the interiors, the laminate floors have been installed in the bedrooms and living room while the main hallway, along with the bathroom and kitchen areas received ceramic tiles. The remaining scope of work includes the construction of the chimney, installation of gutters, excavation of the septic field and the installation of the main water feed from the water spring. In a discussion with the contractors and Tihomir, it was decided that the painting of the exterior façade and interior walls would wait until spring to allow the walls to be completely dry. We inspected the existing, old home to see what could be used of the existing furniture in the new home. Unfortunately, the condition of the existing furniture and appliances are not good, so we made a list of everything that needs to be replaced.

Upon the purchase of new furniture, the Balovic family will be able to move from their old home into a new and modernly equipped home. We wished them this to be the last year they celebrate their slava, Sv. Petka, with their friends and family in their old home.

With our visit to the Balovic family, we took the opportunity to not only bring some basic necessities, we also gifted the children a computer, a gift from our friends at RATEL. The joy of the children while we were bringing in the computer cannot be explained with words. Little Sara, with a huge smile, was barely able to speak the word “computer”. We wished the children lot’s of use of the computer for future school projects and studies. Once more, we would like to thank the good people at RATEL for enabling us to deliver this gift to the Balovic family.

Upon visiting the Balovic family, we set out towards the Old Ras region to meet with Bojan, one of the contractors working on the Balovic home, in order to settle some invoices. Considering how tired we were, we quickly found ourselves heading to the holy monastery Djurdjevi Stupovi (Pillars of St. George) where we spent the night as guests of father Gerasim and the monks of the monastery. Father Gerasim, again, as a great friend of our organization, whole heartedly welcomed us. After attending morning mass, we accompanied father Gerasim in a visit to the newly formed volleyball club Stari Ras (Old Ras) and watched a training session of the youngest members. Professional volleyball player Darko Lojanicic, a member of Serbs for Serbs, took the opportunity to show the young members of Stari Ras some moves and plays, which was followed by wonderment and enthusiastic applause from all in attendance. After our visit to the volleyball club Stari Ras, father Gerasim and the monks of Djurdjevi Stupovi once again showed their kind heartedness and invited us to lunch at the monastery dining hall.

After lunch, we visited the church of St. Peter in Stari Ras and then headed towards Golija. By way of the village Dezeva, the birthplace of St. Sava, we arrived in Radalice, the village where the Komatina family resides with their six children. Serbs for Serbs, along with our donors and friends, have helped the Komatin family before. We have built a new bathroom, rebuilt their barn and purchased pigs for them.

The Komatina family, with smiles on their faces, welcomed us into their home where we took the opportunity to give the children some sweets. The work on the barn is close to completion and soon the pigs can be transferred into it. We wished the Komatina family to wisely use this gift of good people and work hard to increase their pig count to create a more worry free childhood for their children.

Full of good impressions and thanks for our donors and friends Serbs for Serbs, we began our return to Belgrade, over beautiful Golija. This was a wonderful weekend.

NEW INSTALLMENT FOR THE VUCKOVIC TRACTOR

On Monday, November 5, we paid the second installment for buying the tractor within the action of helping family Vuckovic from the village Koprivna near Prijedor. This time we paid 1,722.25 KM. Let us remember, the total value of the tractor is 5,500 KM. Since we had already paid the first installment in the amount of 1,880 KM, we need to pay the remaining installment in the amount of 1,897.75 KM, in order to finish the action. With faith in God we continue our work! …………………………………………………………...

ONGOING WORK AT VULIC'S HOME

Serbs for Serbs have continued to help the eight member Vulic family from Ostruznice in the building of their home which their father began by himself. In order to help speed up construction before winter and

cold weather, Serbs for Serbs had already purchased building materials in October (gravel, cement, construction lime) in the value of 58,691 RSD (approx. $675). Work is in progress and moving smoothly, so we have also bought more material in the value of 33,768 RSD (approx. $390) for the second phase of work on the Vulic home.

The Vulic have earned our respect for their sacrifices and commitment, which is why we will continue to try to help and contribute to the realization of this very important project.

NO WINTER FOR THE AJDUKOVIC FAMILY FROM KOSMET

The Charity organization Serbs for Serbs and the Serbian Society Zaduzbina from Slovenia managed to help yet another family from Kosovo and Metohija in a joint effort. We provided firewood, 5m3 in the amount of 200 EUR for family Ajdukovic from the martyr village Staro Gracko near Lipljan. Although we have helped this family in a Easter action last year, a single mother Jelena and her three children live in very difficult conditions. We hope that we have made their everyday life a bit easier, and contributed to their survival during the winter.

WOOD FOR HEATING FOR JOVANOVIC FAMILY

For the upcoming cold weather, Serbs for Serbs has decided to help the Jovanovic family from Sremska Kamenica. Help was delivered by way of the purchase of wood for heating in the value of 55,350 RSD (approx. $630). We hope that in this manner, we have somewhat lightened the load and every day stress for this single mother Vesna and her golden children. Our organization will of course do what we can to help the Jovanovic family in the future.

SWITZERLAND MEETS SERBIA AND SFS

Katarina Jankovic, a pupil from Switzerland, decided to show the brighter side of Serbia to Swiss. Katarina is a member of KUD Nikola Tesla from Uster, which supports our famous charity pancake-parties. Katarina met the activists of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs, got to know the work of the organization, and decided to present that at her final paper at school. She received important information in an interview with our representative Maja Jovanovic, who is also playing at KUD, and who became her friend. Katarina wrote a paper of 50 pages, and described Serbian nation, Serbian customs, and the difficult situation in Serbia, but also our hearts filled with love, and thus presented our organization.

The teachers were thrilled, and decided to present her paper, along with other papers, to the public. Parents, teachers and other guests were curious about our story, who we are, what we are doing, and what we aimed at. After the successful presentation, Katarina opened her beautiful stand, in which she presented Serbian food, costume and our organization. People were very touched by her engagement and school paper, so they

spontaneously became donors. Katarina’s effort and her great heart won the audience, so she managed to get the donations in the value of 250 francs.

We use this opportunity to thank Katarina for her effort and support. ……………………………………………………….......

The event was also made memorable by the performances of the folklore groups KUD “Kolo Baden” and “Bozur Etvil am Ze”. Our members took the opportunity to present the work of our organization and offer up our popular T-shirts for sale. All together, 260 Swiss Francs (aprox. $275) were raised from donations and T-shirt sales.
