WELCOME—Father Gaston

Father Gaston Mendiola Arroyo was born in 1983 in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. He was raised in the Jehovah's Witness tradition but decided to enter the Catholic Church when he was 16 years old after profound biblical and doctrinal study.

Seeking to follow Christ more deeply, Arroyo entered the seminary in his home town. Unfortunately, this was short lived as his family moved to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua seeking work to support the family.

Later, Father Gaston Mendiola Arroyo joined a group of missionaries dedicated to the rehabilitation of people with drug addiction where he served for two years. He then entered the seminary in Mexicali in Baja California, completing six years of study. Bishop Vann invited Father Gaston to serve the Diocese of Orange in support of the large and growing Hispanic population. He finished two years of study in theology at the Seminario Hispano de Santa María de Guadalupe in Mexico City.

Father Gaston was ordained to the priesthood on June 9, 2018 and has been assigned to Saint Vincent de Paul Church. WELCOME!

What is RCIA and who is it for? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process whereby new members join the Catholic Church, designed specifically for the following: • For adults who have never been baptized and who want to

inquire about the Catholic faith. • For adults who have been baptized in another

Christian tradition (Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, etc.) who want to inquire about the Catholic faith.

• For baptized Catholic adults who have not completed the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation and need more faith formation.

If you fit into any of these categories or have a friend or relative who does, please contact Mary Kay Lamarre at the Parish Office: (714) 842-3000 x123 or send an email at [email protected] The RCIA process of becoming Catholic meets on Wednesday nights from 7 PM to 8 PM in Meeting Room E. You can enter at any time during the year. All those interested in becoming Catholic must experience a full year in our church community; therefore, it is good to enter the journey as soon as possible.

If you are a baptized Catholic and you only need the Sacrament of Confirmation, you may join the Adult Confirmation process which meets Sunday mornings beginning November 11, 2018 at 11 AM in Room E. For more information contact Mary Kay at the number above.

Adult Sacraments Orientation, November 4th at 11 AM | Room A

Registrations are available for adults who are over 19 years old and would like to receive the sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. We will be having an orientation on November 4. Come to the Parish Office to pick up a registration or you may also download it from our website: svdphb.org under FAITH FORMATION/ADULT. For more information please contact Mary Kay Lamarre at the Parish Office: (714) 842-3000 x123 or send an email at [email protected]

Guest Speaker: John LaBriola Fifty years ago Pope Paul VI issued a letter, Humanae Vitae, warning about how the sexual revolution was about to do grave damage to men and women and children and families. He said that the widespread use of artificial contraception — separating sex from the generous love of marriage, united to the love of the Trinity — would lower our moral standards, making it harder for young people to live love well. Come and learn more about about Humanae Vitae!
