SENIORS’ CENTRE
WITHOUT WALLS Seniors’ Centre Without Walls (SCWW) is a free interactive telephone-based program that connects seniors 55+, as well as adults 18+ with physical disabilities who find it difficult to leave home for extended periods of time.
Through the use of group telephone calls, SCWW provides a rich line-up of health-related information from professionals in the community, later-life learning opportunities, participation in brain-stimulating activities, and most of all, the space to create meaningful friendships and community for those who may feel isolated.
It is a seniors’ centre from the comfort of home!
The Good Companions The Good Companions is a not-for-profit
organization that offers programs and services in partnership with volunteers, to
promote, enhance and support the well-being, independence and zest for living
of both seniors and adults with physical disabilities living in the Ottawa area.
SCWW CODE OF
CONDUCT
To ensure a safe and welcoming space, we ask participants, facilitators and guest presenters to observe our Code of Conduct: To have courteous and respectful manners, including using appropriate subject matters, and not interrupting others. To allow the facilitator and guest speakers to direct the group.
To allow everyone to contribute by not dominating the conversations.
Help to provide an environment that is sensitive to and respectful of everyone’s needs and preferences, regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, culture, colour, religion, age, mental or physical disability, gender identity or gender expression, or sexual orientation.
SCWW is funded In-part by the Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, in-part by the United Way of Ottawa, and with the Support of the City of
Ottawa.

Creative Writing Series:
Write On
Write On is a two-hour, creative writing workshop promoting the creation of original works in literature. Writing is not about tricks and recipes, but about getting out of the way and surrendering to the page. Inspiration is a myth!
Through the use of show and tell, figures of speech, opening gambits, the deconstruction and reconstruction of sentences and a look at the narrative outline, the imagination is fired and flowing, authentic writing is enabled.
This workshop leads to the discovery of the joys of literature in all its forms, and promotes the writing of colourful and fluid poetic material.
This workshop, based on personal exploration, is without competition and is fun and productive for all participants.

“She told me how I would be part of a vibrant group of people. How the variety of programs would keep us informed…and sure enough it was my ticket out of a life unlived…” -Eleanor
“We don’t have to be judgmental because we’re not seeing things…and we’re also free to pass .” -Louise
“Connecting, meeting new people and connecting, and of course I don’t have a chance to meet everyone personally but still, connecting to people, I like that.” -Parag
“It gives me something
to look forward to. I really
like interacting with the
other people on the line.
Now that I am part of this
program I no longer feel
as lonely.”
“SCWW greatly enhanced my life
and life style. It has given me
friends, happiness, confidence,
and something to look forward
to. Programs like SCWW should
reach out to more individuals and
continue on!” – Zella
“I do like to keep my brain active...and also some-times some of the answers people give are so unusual they actually make me giggle out loud! I like that because it makes me feel happier.” -Judith
“I am 94 years old and don’t get out much. This program has been a great help to me in order to get in touch with the community, connect and share my knowledge.” –Wylie
