Stampin’Scrappers

The Scrappers met on Wednesday, August 19th. at the pavilion for a show and tell sharing new techniques they have used in their cardmaking over the past few months. We encourage new residents to participate in any of our monthly informal get-togethers at the pavilion. It's a great way to get a

basic overview of our club, as well as being able to meet other Del Webb ladies. If you are interested in attending please contact Elaine Doty at [email protected] for further details.

S_w Mu]h Fun N_ws

Sewing has become more popular than ever during the months that we have been home more than usual.

Responding to the statement “I like sewing because…,” Sew Much Fun members responded enthusiastically;

some of their comments follow: “I also like sewing for my grandkids because they are excited to get what I make.

They even ask for special things they want. When the youngest was 5 she immediately told me that she would need a tooth fairy pillow ...I got it done just in time when she lost her first tooth.” “I especially like when we do

group projects which we donate to deserving causes”...and “I appreciate learning new hints on shortcuts from other sewers.” And we really do have Sew Much Fun! Just ask Caroline, who comes in from the front desk to see what the laughter is all about. I like sewing because I love art, and sewing gives me a chance to design with fabric instead of paper. When I choose a

design and fabrics to use in a quilt, bag, or even a mask, it is emotionally satisfying. Donating the items to help others gives me a blessing. We are hoping that it won’t be too much longer until our club can gather together again. Please start planning now to join us!

Cards shown above are a sample of what some of our members are up to

From th_ G_n_r[l M[n[g_r’s D_sk

August seemed like a blink of an eye and here we are about to enter the beginning of Autumn.

September at Del Webb at Lake Oconee will have some large outdoor events, a movie, and music on the

green and a generally good time for all. We are also working on the walking trails throughout the

property this month to improve their quality and drainage. Please keep an eye out for this process and

use caution as you use them. And of course, the new section of the community is out of control with

new houses going up almost daily. The model homes are being renovated to reflect the new styles of

phase two, and a new sales center is about to be built. The old sales center and parking area will be

taken down to make room for more homes. You just can’t stop the process of growth!

We are well over halfway through the year of COVID-19 and are learning to work with the ‘New

Normal’. It has changed how we must operate and the ways we enjoy our community. The world has

moved outdoors, from pickleball and tennis to boating and kayaking. I have never seen our boat dock

area so packed with boats. It is fantastic! Many have started walking and riding bikes a lot more as

well. It seems half the community is out on sidewalks and streets every morning when I drive onto the

property. We have adjusted in many ways but are still on hold in some other areas. The truth is

everyone just wants to find ways to stay safe and happy. And that is not be2er or worse, it is just

different. I am looking for us all to have a great month.

The DWLO Veterans Club will

meet on Monday, September

21st at 7 pm at the

pavilion.  Refreshments will

be served. Come down and

socialize with your fellow

veterans.  We socially

distance and many wear

masks.

Hope to see you there.

A small group of Kayakers took a significant trip recently.

John Cobb, Ken & Sylvia Green and I travelled to Amerson Water

Park in Macon and were shu1led up to the ramp at Popes Ferry to

launch into Ocmulgee River.

We paddled about 8 miles down River over several shoals, that

were rela4vely mild white water (class 1); though 2 paddlers were

temporarily stuck atop big flat-top rocks, they got over and down

the ledges without mishap.

Because the river was so high, higher than I have seen it before, it

had a strong current and all shoals had plenty of water aver4ng

any delay by bo1oming out, so it took us only 3 hours and 15

minutes on river (1000-1315). It was so high, we had no shallow

shelf on bank nor sandbar to land on for a break or eat lunch.

S4ll, all thoroughly enjoyed the bumpy rides over the shoals,

followed by the smooth river for the last 3 miles. By Bryce Abel
