I AM THE VINE; YOU ARE THE BRANCHES ... APART FROM ME YOU
CAN DO NOTHING
My beloved brothers and sisters we are very privileged to be united with Jesus in the church by virtue of our baptism.
Jesus is the head of the body of the Church, he is the vine and we are his branches. The fact that Jesus qualified
himself in the affirmative as the true vine is an indication that there are other vines which are not true. In Jesus there
is no comparison or allegory. He is the true and authentic vine as contrasted with whatever else claims to be true. A
true vine is definitely known by the fruit it bears. It bears good and sweet fruits. Jesus is known by His fruit as the
Son of God who took the form of man, suffered and died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins and for our
salvation. He is the savior who gave us life by losing his own life. His mission on earth was to die for us so as to prove
his immeasurable love for us. His being the true vine presupposes that he is the source of true life and no other life
can claim to be true apart from that given by Jesus. If man is to have a true and meaningful life, it must be associated
with Jesus who is the way, the truth and the life,
The vine also has branches that are attached to him and these branches are pruned by the Father. We are the branches
of Jesus who is the true vine. The branch of a vine will be lifeless and unproductive if it not attached to the vine since
the living sap from the stock flowing into it enables it to produce fruits; otherwise it is fruitless. Anyone of us who
remains connected to the vine is sustained and nourished, while those who do not remain with the vine wither and die.
This is applicable to our Christian life. As Catholics, if we are true to Jesus, if we follow Jesus with all sincerity of
heart, he will give us his Holy Spirit who will help us in our journey in life. But when we are cut off from him who
is the foundation of life to embrace the new age ideologies, confusion and deceits, then we are cut off from the fountain
that gives life; Jesus. The resultant effect is that we are gullible and susceptible to any garbage that comes across.
Only the truth shall set us free the word of God says. One hard truth which many of us do not want to hear is that in
life we MUST have challenges and trials like disappointments, hard times, sickness, etc. In contrast to these, Jesus
offered us a tested, trusted and reliable option in Matt: 11:28-30, he says: “ come to me all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yolk upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. For my yolk is easy and my burden is light.” Unfortunately many of us do not
want to take this truth. They want quick answers to the challenges they face in life and so they embrace new age
religions that center on the self and the so called energies around us. These energies they claim, help in communication
with their dead ones, invocation of their angels, foretelling, mind reading, etc. The truth my beloved friends is that
there is no communication with your dead ones that is greater than praying for them in the Holy Mass and in your
family prayers, always bearing in mind that one day we all will die. And for those of us who die loving God and doing
his will in holiness in life. We will be rewarded with heaven, while those who did their own will and are caught up
in the snares of the devil, will be with him since they never identified with Jesus. My dearest friends; we must be
careful in living our lives for New Age religions which are calculated ploys to cut you off from Jesus who is the source
of life. What has a catholic to do with fortune telling or psychic reading. For me this is an immature and insecure way
of living life. It is complete faithlessness in Jesus. Cast your fears and worries on to Jesus. Only Jesus can do more
than we can ever ask of him. Take up your health, marital, financial etc challenges and go to Jesus. He is the savior
of the world. Stop giving the devil room to ruin your lives. Why are some of us so blind? Are you not seeing what
is happening around you. Be faithful to God and he will exalt you. Jesus has exalted the saints in the past, is still
exalting many who are faithful to him and will still do that. Run to him and surrender your life to him and then give
him time to reprogram your life.
I promise to always pray for you that you will experience really the joy of being a child of Jesus. Pray for me also that
I will be a worthy servant of Jesus and that Jesus will also help me in my own weakness. Whenever you see Fr. Cinque
give him a hug on my behalf, he is indeed more than a father to me. I wish I can have his kind heart. My warmest
regards to Fr. Ray; he is a true brother. My encounter with Fr. Toth has indeed improved my understanding of reality.
He is a sincere priest. To Jesus who is the alpha and the omega be glory, praise and adoration. Amen.
