Are you interested in joining the Catholic Church? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, RCIA, is a pro-gram for people interested in exploring and possibly joining the Catholic Church.

Adults wishing to enter the Catholic Church typically receive the sacraments of Baptism (unless baptized in another Christian faith), Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist at Easter. Our new program has started. Feel free to join in at any time. All are welcome! RCIA meets every Tuesday evening at 7PM in the Siena Room. It is not necessary to sign up. Please contact Sally at 707-731-7933 for more information.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Two weeks ago I talked about how there was chatter about a change coming to St. Dominic’s. This change is regarding our music program and I would like to offer you the opportunity to attend a presentation about the change with a question and answer session to follow. Please join me on either Wednesday, September 30th at 7 pm or Friday, October 2 at 9 am in the parish hall. Last week I was honored to be able to anoint two people and assisted them in their preparation to meet our Lord. While death can be sorrowful and scary, it can also be beautiful because our death to this world is the means of eternal life. The prayers and actions associated with the anointing of Last Rites centers on receiving our Lord in the Eucharist. I bring this up because over the eight years of my priesthood more often than not I am called to give Last Rites to people who are within hours of death and are unconscious. While the graces of the sacrament are still given to us by God, the experience of the rite is more fully appreciated when the dying person is able to receive the Eucharist. My observation is that too many people have a Hollywood movie understanding of Last Rites when the priest enters the room, prayers over the person and they the person immediately dies. As a result, I believe subconsciously people equate Last Rites with bringing about the person’s death as opposed to what it really is intended to do and that is to prepare the person for death. In a perfect world when a loved one, or you, reach the point where doctors tell you they have done all they can that is the time to call a priest for Last Rites. However, the Last Rites can be given under any circumstance. It is a very spiritual and graced part of my priesthood to prepare and assist people with their death. God bless, Fr. Jerome

Scientism and Scientific Atheism: Where Do They

Get Science, Philosophy, and Theology Wrong

Thursday, Oct 29th at 7PM in the Parish Hall

Fr. Mariusz ("Mario") Tabaczek, O.P. will discuss the relationship between science and faith. We will also examine the arguments of some atheists like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens who claim that science proves God does not exist.

Fr. Mario is a Dominican priest and a PhD student at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. He has a Masters in Theology and a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology, and he has authored several articles about science and religion. Fr. Mario is a member of Christians in Science and the Centre for Theology and the Natural Sciences. *This talk counts for an SDS parent Catechism hour.

Little Disciples Co-Op

Are you parents of young children ages 1-4 years old? Would you like to attend Mass without “the littles” in tow periodically? A group of moms are looking to form a childcare co-op during the 9AM Mass!

Beginning in January we’d like to offer the option to drop off small children ages 1-4 yrs in the Mary Magdalene Room at 8:45AM so that you and your spouse may enjoy the fullness of the 9AM Mass, then reclaim them after Mass for fellowship in the Parish Hall. In order for this to work we need a list of interested parents with a commitment to trade-off serving these littlest disciples with an hour of songs, learning and Godly play.

Please Complete Our Interest List Form on our website at the following URL:

This Fall, from SEPT 23—NOV 1 our parish will be one of more than 202 cities in 52 states joining together for the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history—the 40 Days for Life campaign. “40 Days for Life” is a focused PRO-LIFE CAMPAIGN that consists of:

▪ 40 days of prayer and fasting

▪ 40 days of peaceful vigil

▪ 40 days of community outreach

While all aspects of 40 Days for Life are crucial in our effort to end abortion, the most visible component is the PEACEFUL PRAYER VIGIL outside the local abortion (or Planned Parenthood) clinic at 990 Broadway Street, Vallejo, California.

Please consider volunteering to pray for one or more hours during the 40 days outside the abortion facility. To Sign up contact Tony Hensley at [email protected]

Wonder what it’s like to pray outside a clinic? Read a parishioners testimony based on experience: http://www.stdombenicia.org/yup-i-prayed-outside-an-abortion-clinic/
