SEPTEMBER 24, 2017 25th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
SCRIPTURE READINGS
First Reading: Isaiah 55:6-9 Isaiah expresses an urgent plea that all should seek the Lord and turn to him for mercy.
Second Reading: Philippians 1:20c-24, 27a In a strongly personal message from Paul while in prison, he says that he wishes “to be freed from this life and to be with Christ,” but he realizes that he still has much important work to do.
Gospel: Matthew 20:1-16a Jesus tells the parable of the owner of an estate who hires workmen for his vineyard. When, at the end of the day, he pays a full day’s wage to those who worked only one hour, those who worked all day complained bitterly. But the owner says, “I am free to do as I please, am I not?” Jesus reminds us through this parable that “the last shall be first and the first shall be last.”

2017 BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL
The 2017 Bishop’s Annual Appeal is currently underway. This year, the theme of the Appeal is “In Giving, We Receive”. By being generous with our God-given gifts, we not only help people in need, but we also help ourselves. Jesus reminds us of the blessings that come from being good stewards.
The Bishop’s Annual Appeal supports four worthy causes:
Catholic Charities seminarian education inner-city schools Nazareth Village, our diocesan priests’ retirement residence
You can help make this year’s Appeal an even greater success by making a generous pledge today. Every single gift is important, valued and changes lives.
Whatever you can do to help is a profound blessing!

It was a wonderful afternoon as parishioners and their families enjoyed the burgers, hot dogs, delicious side dishes, followed by even more delicious desserts. The kids had a blast in the jumpy house, with the water bucket dump, spin art, sand art and face painting. Our Confirmation students were also a huge help running the games and crafts.
The afternoon was made possible because of the support of Fr. Tim, Fr. Michal and dedicated committee members:

Connecting GOSPEL and DOCTRINE:
This Sunday’s Gospel is a parable about the Kingdom of Heaven. The landowner doesn’t deny anyone the chance to work in the vineyard. The landowner wants to include everyone. The Kingdom of Heaven has room for everyone.
Jesus wants us to recognize that God’s love and mercy abound. Those who are outsiders and last in some people’s eyes may be first in God’s love. Love is God’s generous gift to all of us.
What do you think is more important to God than being fair? (PFLAUM)
