Dear Parishioners, Today marks Seminary Sunday. In parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago, seminarians will speak about their vocation and invite to offer support through prayer and financial offerings. The community of Our Lady of the Woods has a special privilege and responsibility in the life of seminarians. This is

our third year as a teaching parish for seminarians. About sixty parishes in the Chicago Archdiocese and Joliet Diocese serve as teaching parishes. Mundelein Seminary has named this program the Tolton Teaching Parish Program after Father Augustus Tolton, the first African-American priest in the Archdiocese and whose cause for sainthood is moving forward. In this ministry we assist the young men in the pastoral formation. They become involved in a number of ministries here at our Lady of the Woods. Many of you have seen these seminarians assisting at Mass as Ministers of Communion or as Lectors. They have greeted you as you have left church during the weeks that they are present. In the past our seminarians have worked in Youth Ministry, RCIA, Catechesis, Service, and much more at Our Lady of the Woods. They do this while fulfilling their full time responsibilities as students. This year we welcome back Deacon Joe Richards and seminarian Jacob Dunne. Both have been part of the teaching parish experience at Our Lady of the Woods the past two years. Joining them this year will be Jacob Zemaitis and Francisco Pagan. Please welcome them as they greet you after Masses this weekend. There is a parish committee that works with our seminarians. This Committee is chaired by John “Murph” Wall. Other members include Joan Davidson, Rick Duda, Roberta Laska, Ellie Olson, Gary Olson, Mary Ellen Stanley, and Dirk Swiderek. The Committee meets at least once a month, providing feedback and support. The committee is very important in their growth and ministry as they represent the wisdom of parishioners. On the weekend of October 13th the seminarians and the Teaching Parish Committee will host hospitality after all Masses. In Christ,

Father Mike
