Chartered Bus to MG 30th Birthday Celebration
The Miller County Red Dirt Master Gardeners are chartering a bus to take us to the MG 30th Birthday at Moss Mountain, Saturday, October 13th. You may GO FOR FREE if you have all of your required hours
posted. You first sign up to go to the birthday party – the cost is $30. Then you sign up for the bus with Teresa Slack. The bus will be on a first come, first serve basis. If you do not have all of your hours in, you may still ride the bus for $25.
Master Gardeners can now register one guest for the birthday event. Cost is
$75 for the guest. You must be previously registered for the event before entering a guest’s registration. Miller County Basic Training Committee Meeting
The Miller County Basic Training Committee will meet on Fri., September 14th at the Miller County
Courthouse 3rd Floor Conference Room. The meeting will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. We have lots
to do to get this all together. If you would like to help with Basic Training, we can use your help!

Bill Bean I have known Bill Bean since the 1980s and the thing I will always remember most about him is his infectious smile and laugh. Wherever Bill Bean was, there was a party! He could entertain you for hours with stories of his everyday life and his interactions with other people. He never met a stranger and he never took himself too seriously. Bill be greatly missed.

Alice McMillan and I joined the MG group back in 2002. Believe it or not I was just a shy thing but I remember at one of our meetings, Bill Bean telling me that I need to speak up for myself in order to be heard. That memory has stuck with me ever since….
Alice and I were talking about when we first joined the Miller County MG group; Bill was always in attendance at basic training. Bill was what Alice called “the greeter,” always smiling and assisting us new “seedlings” as we began the classes. He would assist where and when ever he was asked, always encouraging us, being positive and usually being his jovial self.
When you saw Bill, you saw Martha. They worked as a team – what Alice and I called a well-oiled machine, working side-by-side. You would see them working together at the Gateway Farmers Market. This is the one place they worked well and proudly. It showed how much they cared about the market and their community. Bill was very proud of the work he did for the market.
Bill and Martha love the Master Gardener program and being a part of it, but more importantly to them both was working at their church. When they talk about their church work and what they have done or are going to do, their faces just glow.
Well Bill, I think I have been heard after all … and I can probably speak for all Master Gardeners in saying, we will all miss you!
