From the Pastor

Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. (Romans 13:10) I write from Kansas City, where I have been blessed to be part of the 2017 SENT Seminar hosted by the National Benevolent Associ-ation Incubate Initiative. The seminar brought together 20 Disciples ministers and social entrepreneurs from around the country who have ideas for social service ministries that contribute to the health and wellness of our communities. Training included leadership coaching, legal and tax issues related to incorporating a new organ-ization, social media and marketing, and fundraising. All of these leaders who I met in the seminar are stepping out boldly to create the change they believe in, some together with church communities, some on their own, some with teams. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said: “Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” In these times of turmoil, these times of floods and fires, these times of young people who have never known any home but here being told they are no longer welcome, these times of shifting demographics, of birthing new realities of what church is or could be...we are called by the power of the Holy Spirit to defend our neighbors - to implement justice through love, for love is the fulfilling of the law.

We soon will have a nominating committee that will be tasked with finding officers, elders, deacons, and trustees to serve First Christian Church of Santa Fe. Prayerfully consider your personal situation and the possibilities of being able to serve the church in one of these positions. Once the members of the nominat-ing committee are announced, consider volunteering for a position before being asked.

God’s Kids Say &

Do the Funniest Things A friend who leads the children’s program in her local Lutheran church was telling the children about the rescue of Moses by Pharaoh’s daugh-ter. She used it as an object lesson to remind them of how so much in life needs to be rescued, including the animals in the local rescue shelter. Following a brief prayer, the chil-dren began to file out of the sanctu-ary for Sunday School when a small girl broke ranks and ran down the isle fervently announcing, “Mommy, Mommy, the Bible says we have to get a dog!” From The Joyful Noiseletter Bob White, Owego, NY
