SEPTEMBER 2016 NEWSLETTER Supporting those who support us” Community Supporting Police Inc. (CSP) is a community driven organisation supporting members of the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and their families since 1991. To celebrate this milestone, CSP is holding a 25 th Anniversary dinner and Biennial Conference at Mercy Place Bardon on Saturday 29 October 2016. Many of CSP’s inaugural committee members, former and current members of both CSP and the QPS and their family, members from a variety of supportive community groups including Scouts, Guides, Lions, the Salvation Army, PCYC and Police Legacy and other great sponsors will be in attendance. Members from the five CSP Branches from across the State are also attending the events. The premise of this support was and still is aimed at enhancing relations between the community and the police service. To achieve this goal, CSP continues to support the QPS in providing welfare assistance to all members. CSP continues to engage through CSP Branches to support emergency accommodation across Queensland for members of the QPS and their immediate families in times of trauma or crisis. The funds raised by CSP volunteers through local fundraising, including the sale of QPS branded merchandise, soft toys and Junior Police clothing (caps and polo shirts - refer to CSP merchandise page); and through the holding of fundraising events including Behind the Crime Nights (BTC - page 2 for the September BTC Night) provides much needed funds to support these facilities and QPS members and their families. All QPS members are able to access emergency accommodation throughout the State by engaging with a local Human Services Officer or the Police Chaplaincy Unit. All QPS members are able to apply for assistance through the CSP Helping Hand Fund (HH) (refer page 3 details on HH). In conjunction with the 25th Birthday celebrations and Dinner, CSP is holding its Biennial Conference at Mercy Place Bardon on the Saturday 29 October 2016. We have been fortunate to secure Ms Michelle Lindley from Volunteering Queensland as our guest speaker and facilitator for this all day event. Michelle will provide CSP members with valuable information on recruiting and retaining volunteers in the ever-changing world in which we live. Attendees at the Biennial Conference will be encouraged to discuss the future direction for CSP and peruse the proposed CSP Rules. It is hoped the new Rules will be ready for approval at the CSP General meeting in November. If you currently a member of CSP and have not received your invitation to either the Conference of the 25 Year Anniversary Dinner, please contact the CSP Secretary by emailing [email protected] CSP also wishes to remind members of current procedures concerning membership. Please note an annual membership fee of $20.00pp is payable after your application has been presented and accepted by the Management Committee. If you belong to an organisation or business that would like to hold a fundraising event such as a free dress day or social sporting event with the proceeds being donated to CSP please forward an email to [email protected] and a member of the Management Committee will be in touch. CSP members are able to assist with the sale of CSP merchandise at these events if requested. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Wednesday 14 September 2016 at Police Headquarters, Roma Street, Brisbane. Nomination forms for executive positions on the CSP Management Committee have been forwarded to all current CSP members. If you know of a community member who may wish to nominate for an executive position, nomination forms should be forwarded to the Secretary, Community Supporting Police Inc., PO Box 209 Strathpine Centre 4500 no later than 1 September 2016 (refer to page 6 for a nomination form). If you wish to nominate for a position and you are not currently member of CSP, you must complete an application for membership form and forward this to the CSP Secretary prior to nominating for a position. Community Supporting Police Inc. (CSP) is a community driven organisation supporting members of the

Stock and Rural Crime

Presenter: Detective Inspector Michael Dowie, State Coordinator SARCIS,

State Crime Command, Queensland Police Service

Detective Inspector Michael Dowie is a long serving and well respected member of the QPS. He is currently the State Coordinator, Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad, State Crime Command. Detective Inspector Dowie will highlight the important work undertaken by the Squad across rural and remote areas of Queensland. He will highlight important criminal cases which involved the theft of hundreds of head of stock, cross border organised crime machinery theft, the impact of unlawful hunting and animal cruelty cases and also focus on community engagement with land owners in remote areas of Queensland to protect their industry, communities and our borders. Through the utilisation of technology including the new Policelink SARCIS app, the Squad has been able to identify and disrupt criminal networks involved in large scale theft of animals and property. Detective Inspector Dowie’s presentation will provide a unique insight into the specialist work of the Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad, State Crime Command.

HELPING HAND

The Community Supporting Police Inc. (CSP) Helping Hand (HH) is a registered tax deductible gift status organisation which aims to render financial aid and assistance to members of the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and their families, who are faced with serious, terminal, life threatening injuries or significant personal trauma.

Helping Hand has established a network of volunteer employees across the State, who can identify and coordinate assistance for colleagues and their families. HH raises funds through donations, sponsorship, payroll deductions and fund raising events.

No donations have been spent on administration costs since the fund commenced in 2005. Helping Hand donations including those made through the payroll system are tax deductible.

Financial support of Helping Hand is vital for the Fund to continue to support members of the Queensland

Police Service for as little as $2.00 per pay, YOU can make a significant difference.
