On Sept. 2nd we’ll be watching “The Intern” with Robert De Niro, Rene Russo, and Anne Hathaway. This movie is about a 70-year-old widower who discovers his retirement isn’t all it’s cracked-up to be and decides to seize an opportunity which leads him to new, growing friendships. “Experience never gets old.” On Sept. 30th we’ll watch ”The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”; British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than advertised, the Marigold Hotel neverthe-less slowly begins to charm them in unexpected ways. Here we are almost into the fall season already and this summer has been hot

and humid. I am hoping for a super nice fall with lots of beautiful colors.

We will be having FLU SHOTS here at WINCO on the 21st of this month at 10:00 am.

I would like to thank everyone for the fresh tomatoes and to Marty Wittmus for

being out in the garden as hot as it has been, picking all of the vegetables he has

shared with us! What a job that is for anyone, as hot as it’s been.

I hope this newsletter finds everyone doing well and in good health. I would like

to wish all of our September birthdays a VERY SPECIAL DAY! ~ Happy Birthday Every-

one ~

Until next month; be safe and make each day a special one!

God bless & Take Care, Pam

COMING SOON—LCCOA’S ANNUAL HOLIDAY SPIRITS RAFFLE

A BASKET OF DINING GIFT CARDS AND SPIRITS VALUED OVER $700

NEVER USE/DRINK, THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE TO THE BASKET ;

Tickets will be available in October. Drawing to be held in December.

DO YOU ENJOY WRITING? OR PERHAPS YOU WOULD LIKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO JOT DOWN YOUR LIFE-STORY!

LCCOA would like to start a writing group, but we’re in need of a volunteer or two to lead it. We have the program outline and will have all the needed supplies. The group will meet once a week or twice a month, and be given a topic to write about. Ex; how you met your spouse, a vacation you took, how you received a scar(s), etc... Each meeting will be given a different topic or topics to write about. Then when the course is complete, participants will have an “autobiography” to keep or pass on to a loved one (child or grandchild even!). Benefits of this program, besides leaving a written-legacy;

Improves Mental Acuity Encourages Memory Recall Promotes Socialization

Here’s what a participant of this program in Louisville, Kentucky has to say about it at his center; “This is bigger than bingo for many of us. It is a chance to be drawn back. Now I know that one of them lost a 3-year-old child, one had escaped Nazi Germany, and one still misses her mother immensely. I’ve lived around these people for years, but now we’re friends.” ~ Mr. Laird - 91 years-old

If you are interested in volunteering to help lead this group, or if you have an interest to participate, please contact Lindsey at the Troy office. (636) 528-7000

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain

accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that

fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes

pain signals.

Symptoms sometimes begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection or

significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over

time with no single triggering event.

Women are much more likely to develop fibromyalgia than are men. Many

people who have fibromyalgia also have tension headaches, temporomandibular joint

(TMJ) disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and depression.

While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, a variety of medications can help control

symptoms. Exercise, relaxation and stress-reduction measures also may help.

Why is September the ninth month?

In the Roman calendar there were only ten months – the 7th to 10

th being

September to December; as their names suggest. It was only later when

July & August (Julius and Augustus Caesar) were added that they became

out of sequence.

A couple of significant dates in September—

September 2, 1752 – The British ended their use of the Julian calendar,

switching instead to the Gregorian calendar, resulting in a major adjustment

as Wednesday, September 2, was followed by Thursday, September 14th.

The correction resulted in rioting by people who felt cheated and

demanding the missing eleven days back.

September 9, 1776 – The United States came into existence as the

Continental Congress changed the name of the new American nation from

the United Colonies.
