************************President’sMessageSeptember2016
Fellow SAACAC Members:
Hoping everyone has had a good summer.
We are planning to schedule camping yet for the fall having done little over the summer. On the flip side, not camping a lot means we’ve been able to enjoy the yard, have some barbeques and take in local parades and activities. The definition of a new word ‘staycation’ is vacationing within your local area or country. For Canadians, we can travel a lot and still be within our country.
A couple highlights of the Southern Alberta activities included attending two 100th Anniversaries – one in Lomond and one in Milk River. Both had very good parades with good representation in the parades from SAACAC. Some of our club cars even carried local dignitaries! Congratulations to Erich Ruppert who won a ribbon for towing his 100-year-old Model T in the Lomond’s 100th Anniversary parade behind his 1965 T-Bird. This Model T still runs but doesn’t start well when wet. Local Show and Shines are now standard for community celebrations and SAACAC was there too, contributing to these interesting displays of our automotive progress.
This summer was the first time we were able to take in some Street Wheelers events – the Friday night cruise and Sunday Show ‘n Shine. Lethbridge has really embraced this event that had modest beginnings in an informal Friday night cruise. Street Wheelers is now a major summer tourist event attended by folks from near and far.
