Struck from FIVE TROY OUNCES of pure .999 silver, and measuring a huge 65mm, the 2014 $8 Lunar Horse Gold-Plated 5oz Silver Proof forms a powerful tribute to the New Year in the Chinese Lunar Calendar – and an exclusive one!
Strictly limited to a mintage of just 500, there is no doubt that this coin will command attention by virtue of the dramatic, superbly balanced
reverse design. Depicting three horses at full gallop, this breathtaking motif captures perfectly the powerful muscularity
of our equine comrades – beautifully emphasised by the expert application of selective gold-plating.
A masterwork of numismatic craftsmanship, this outstanding legal tender issue is the work of Swiss precious metal specialists Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux (PAMP) – the world’s leading independent precious metal coin producers. Underpinned by PAMP’s most rigorous Proof standards, the contrast of the fi nely sculpted, delicately frosted design and the most pristine of
mirror fi elds will impress every collector.
A limited window of opportunity, with the mintage restricted to a
mere 500 coins, time is of the essence for those keen to become the proud owner
of the 2014 $8 Lunar Horse Gold-Plated 5oz Silver Proof.

AUSSIE QUALITY on Show! Proud to take Australian numismatics onto the world stage, Downies has just returned from the American Numismatic Association’s major collector extravaganza – the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Chicago. One of the world’s most important collector festivals, the World’s Fair of Money was once again a major triumph. Held from the 13th to the 17th of August, the show was attended by a range of international Mints and issuing authorities, as well an astonishing 600+ dealers. There was much to see and do at the show, and not only for the thousands of collectors who attended. As always, Downies grasped the opportunity to secure some of the latest and greatest collector issues, and we look forward to presenting plenty of exciting opportunities to our clients over the next couple of months. We received a wonderful welcome at the Chicago ANA Show, and look forward to returning the favour when Melbourne hosts the fi rst ever ANDA International Coin & Banknote Show later this year. To be held at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium from the 18th to the 20th of October, this prestigious event will see the Perth Mint, Britain’s Royal Mint, the Royal Australian Mint, Coin Invest Trust and Britain’s Royal Mail in attendance, along with a host of Australian coin and banknote dealers – including Downies of course! With exclusive Show Mint Sets, exclusive Show coins, special giveaways and much, much more, the ANDA International Coin & Banknote Show is sure to be a major event for Australian numismatics. We hope to see you there!
A tremendous event, raising awareness and much needed funds for the fi ght against kidney disease, Kath and Ken Downie took great pride in competing in Kidney Health Australia’s 25th annual Kidney Kar Rally – travelling across New South Wales and Queensland from the 16th to the 24th of August. A wonderful opportunity to help Aussie kids facing this silent killer, we are delighted that our participation in this worthy cause has helped Downies raise more than A$20,000 for Kidney Health Australia’s Kidney Kids Camps. See the Order Form for your last chance to secure the 2013 Kidney Kar Rally Medallion.

Complete from 1880 to 1887! Apart from the outstanding quality, this hoard of Queen Victoria Sovereigns was notable for the broad variety of dates. Indeed, such was the array of dates that we have been able to assemble COMPLETE SETS from 1880 to 1887!
An eminently prestigious acquisition for any collector, this lavish presentation comprises eight consecutively dated 22-carat gold sovereigns – from 1880 to 1887. An historically important aggregation, these coins represent the very last Young Head Queen Victoria Sovereigns struck in Australia at the Melbourne Mint.
Graded from Very Fine to Extremely Fine, we have only four of these prestigious collections available.

A wonderful opportunity for our clients to secure some high grade 19th century gold, Downies recently acquired a massive hoard of 1880s Australian Gold Sovereigns – all bearing the Young Head portrait of Queen Victoria and all in premium quality!
Most of the sovereigns found in this signifi cant hoard were struck at the Melbourne Mint. Established as a direct consequence of the Gold Rush, Australia’s second branch of
Britain’s Royal Mint began operations in 1872, and struck Young Head Sovereigns until 1887. In each of those years, the Mint struck sovereigns bearing
Benedetto Pistrucci’s wondrous St George & the Dragon motif – arguably the world’s most famous gold coin design, fi rst seen when the sovereign became the Empire’s premier gold coin in 1817.
Instantly catching the eye under any circumstances, these much-admired designs look utterly magnifi cent when found in the upper echelons of quality – as here. Clearly stashed away before suffering too greatly from the rigours of circulation, the Melbourne Mint Queen Victoria Young Head Sovereigns we have in stock are all in lustrous Extremely Fine condition!
A great chance to add some premium grade 125+ year-old sovereigns to your
collection, the 1880-87 Young Head St George Sovereign is surprisingly affordable
for such an important piece of Australia’s golden heritage. Dates of our choice.

Underpinned by attractive new style presentation packs, outstanding value-for-money and premium grade Australian legal tender coins, the 1984-2001 $1 Commemorative Coin Pack and 2002-2011 $1 Commemorative Coin Pack represent your big chance to secure every $1 type issued for circulation in Australia up to 2011 – with every coin presented in strictly Uncirculated condition!
More durable and more cost-effective than the $1 banknote, the fi rst aluminium-bronze $1 coin was unveiled in 1984 – the Mob of Kangaroos $1, designed by numismatic master craftsman Stuart Devlin. Unique in Australian numismatics, as the ONLY Roos $1 bearing the original decimal portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the 1984 Roos $1 was joined by Australia’s fi rst commemorative $1 in 1986, celebrating the Year of Peace. A further seven commemoratives were issued from 1986 to 2001, with every one of those coins – PLUS the fi rst Mob of Roos date – included in the 9-coin 1984-2001 $1 Commemorative Coin Pack!

Important, impressive and beautifully presented, the 9-coin 2002-2011 $1 Commemorative Coin Pack forms the perfect partner. Highlighted by the lowest mintage $1 issued for circulation in Australia, the 2003 Australia’s Volunteers $1, as well as the much-admired 2003 Women’s Suffrage $1 and 2005 Dancing Man $1, this affordable collection comprises all nine $1 commemoratives issued by the Royal Australian Mint from 2002 until the present day!
Although all eighteen Australian $1 types have been issued for general use, it is extremely tough to compile the 1984-2011 $1 series from circulation. Crucially for the collector with an eye for quality, it is utterly impossible to source these unique, one-year-only types from your change in top grade – making this opportunity very important indeed.
Secured behind archival bubble, and presented within an informative, full-colour pack measuring 210mm x 210mm, each 9-coin Australian legal tender collection is underpinned by pristine Uncirculated quality.

First time offer for Downies!
Always the fi rst to sell out...
An important opportunity for all Lunar enthusiasts – and all Silver Proof collectors – we have a tiny allocation of the Perth Mint’s highly sought after annual Lunar 1oz Silver Proof issue.
A sparkling celebration of the Year of the Horse, and part of a tiny worldwide limited edition of just 5,000, this larger-than-crown-size 45.60mm Australian legal tender coin will undoubtedly be the fi rst coin of the series to sell out – as it is every year. Housed in an offi cial Perth Mint case, and complete with a numbered Certifi cate of Authenticity, our allocation of the 2014 $1 Lunar Horse 1oz Silver Proof is sure to sell out at speed. Avoid disappointment – order today!
An important new release from the Perth Mint, and crucial to collectors in light of how fast the annual Lunar Silver Proof 1oz sells out, we are delighted to present the Perth Mint’s 2014 50c Lunar 1/2oz Silver Proof!
The Perth Mint broke new ground in 2013, issuing its very fi rst 36.60mm .999 fi ne Lunar 1/2oz Silver Proof. A small scale, exclusive project, even we were unable to secure stocks of this value-for-money Australian legal tender type. With the Lunar 1oz Silver Proof selling out at super speed every year, however, the Perth Mint has sensibly decided to make the 2014 50c Lunar Horse 1/2oz Silver Proof available much more widely than for the Year of the Snake 1/2oz Silver Proof issue – which is sensational news for all collectors!
Although the 2014 50c Lunar Horse 1/2oz Silver Proof represents an affordable opportunity to secure a Lunar coin struck to the Mint’s impeccable, world-renowned Proof quality, we urge our clients to act quickly. With a limited edition of just 8,000, and the broad availability of this coin sure to stir up tremendous demand across the globe, our allocation is necessarily tiny.

One of Australia’s most eagerly anticipated annual issues, with the Silver Kangaroo $1 Series among
the nation’s most popular collector programs, we are delighted to unveil the Royal Australian Mint’s new 2014 Proof and Frosted Uncirculated Kangaroo coins!
Struck to impeccable quality from a troy ounce of .999 fi ne silver, the new 2014 Silver Kangaroo
$1 coins tap into Australia’s rich colonial history. The second annual issue
underpinned by the Explorers’ First Sightings theme, both the Proof and BU versions carry a superb recreation of an early appreciation of Australia’s primary native icon. Based
on a sketch made by famed wildlife author John Gould during his 1838
journey to Australia, this superb depiction of Western Grey Kangaroos was completed by Henry
Constantine Richter for the 1845 publication, The Mammals of Australia. Capturing a fascinating piece of Australia’s colonial history, this striking one-year-only motif is beautifully
accommodated by the imposing 40mm diameter fl an of each Australian legal tender coin.
The 2014 $1 Kangaroo 1oz Silver Proof is set in a Royal Australian Mint case with a numbered Certifi cate of Authenticity confi rming the mintage of 10,000, with the 2014 $1 Kangaroo 1oz Silver BU presented within a beautifully illustrated, offi cial Mint pack.

A mighty mob of cracking
Exclusive, offi cial and eye-catching, the Royal Australian Mint’s Kangaroo 1oz Silver Proof Series is a genuine collector favourite. Beginning in 1998, this distinctively Australian collector program constantly attracts new collectors, with the fl ood of new adherents to the series naturally intensifying competition for the ‘early years’.
This escalating competition has ensured that the coins of this sought after series are generally scarce, with strong secondary market performance virtually across the board. Indeed, every coin from the series now trades at above the Royal Australian Mint’s Offi cial Issue Price, with many rarely available to collectors. Following an intense search of the market, however, Downies can – for the FIRST TIME SINCE 2008! – offer the complete Kangaroo Silver Proof Series from 1998 up to the current day!
With only a few examples of some dates in stock, and demand sure to be strong, we highly recommend an early order. Buy all 16 coins and SAVE A$100!

An imposing 28.27g sterling silver Five Shillings coin, spanning a sizeable 38.61mm in diameter, the Queen Victoria 1893-1900 Crown forms the perfect venue for the majestic Veiled Head portrait – the last obverse design employed during the Queen’s record-breaking 63-year reign.
Continuing Great Britain’s grand tradition of commemorative crowns, the coronation of Elizabeth II was honoured by the issue of this one-year-only Five Shillings. Offered in Uncirculated quality, this beautifully designed 38.60mm cupro-nickel coin is a bargain at A$39.95.
Taken from a mintage of 256,020, and the only crown (fi ve shillings) denomination issued during the reign of King Edward VII, this splendid 38.61mm diameter 28.27g sterling silver Crown was issued by Britain’s Royal Mint to commemorate the coronation of the king in 1902.
Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee was honoured with a short-lived coin series – including the 38.61mm 28.27g sterling silver 1887-92 Crown. Graced with the St George reverse motif, each coin is distinguished by the controversial Jubilee portrait by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm.

The
FIRST…The
RAREST…The
LAST…It has a lot of rivals for the title, but we believe that the 1927 Canberra Florin is the most beautifully designed coin in the history of Australian numismatics. It is unarguably one of the most popular. Australia’s fi rst commemorative, issued in 1927 to honour the opening of the new Parliament House, this distinctive, one-year-only sterling silver type is remarkably affordable. Set in a full-colour pack.
Issued to mark the centenaries of the founding of Victoria and settlement of Melbourne, the one-year-only 1934/35 Centenary Florin is rare in any grade. Just 54,000 coins were issued! Thus one of the lowest mintage coins across the entire predecimal series, and highly sought after as one of the great predecimal rarities, this unique type is available in Extremely Fine condition.
Unique, as the sole commemorative fl orin issued during the reign of King George VI, the 1951 Federation Florin was issued in honour of the 50th anniversary of Australian nationhood. Defi ned by a very low mintage of just two million, and yet still very affordable in lovely aUnc condition as here, this important type is a compulsory element of every Australian collection. Presented within a full-colour pack.
The fi rst commemorative for Elizabeth II also turned out to be the last of the 1910-64 predecimal series. Celebrating the fi rst tour by a reigning British monarch, this unique type (mintage 4m) forms a symbolic reminder of the powerful bond between Australia and the Mother Country. Struck at the historic Melbourne Mint, as with every coin on this page, we have this key type in aUnc – set in a full-colour pack.
COMPLETE 1927-54 COMMEMORATIVE FLORIN COLLECTION A$598 KA064
The only two dates of Australia’s largest issued coin type – measuring 38.5mm and comprising nearly 1oz sterling silver – the 1937 and 1938
Crowns are a must-have for every predecimal collection.
The nation’s highest predecimal coin denomination, at Five Shillings, this dynamic duo is also well known for the tiny mintages.

The only issued 1937-dated coin, struck for the George VI coronation, the 1937 Crown had a mintage of just one million. It’s successor, the 1938 Crown, is one of the lowest-mintage issues of the entire series, with production halted at just 101,600 coins due to the Crown’s unpopularity as a circulation coin. Imposing, distinctive and scarce – with so many melted for the silver value – we have a small number of EF 1937 Crowns and EF 1938 Crowns in stock – each set in a card.

Filling a gaping hole in one of Australia’s longest-running, most important collector programs – the Royal Australian Mint’s Mint Set Series – we have been able to
assemble complete, strictly Uncirculated coin sets from both 1967 and 1968!
Considered the ‘Lost Years’ of Australian currency, no Mint Sets were issued in 1967 or 1968. This was in part due to the fact that Australia’s new decimal system had been thrown into chaos when the original 1966 Silver Round 50c was withdrawn due to the rise in silver prices, with no new 50c type issued in its place. In addition, the production of decimal coins in these years was split between the RAM (all 5c-20c issues), the Perth Mint (both 2c dates) and the Melbourne Mint (both 1c dates), and it is likely that the diffi culty in co-ordinating three mints to create collector sets as fi rst issued by the RAM in 1966 could not be overcome.
With no annual sets issued during this time, the coins issued in 1967 and 1968 can therefore be found only in circulation. With well over four decades having passed,
all 1967 and 1968 dates are naturally extremely scarce today in premium grade – and continuing to rise in market value. The 1967 20c in Unc is now valued at A$35, for example,
with the 1968 2c and 20c cataloguing at A$80 and A$100 respectively!
Whether to fi ll that gap in your RAM Mint Set collection, or secure a broad array of scarce, key early decimal dates in the fi nest quality, this is your chance. Housed in the same Mint Set style
presentation packaging used by the RAM after 1984, each 5-coin collection (1c-20c) comprises coins
taken from original Mint Rolls and therefore in impeccable Uncirculated condition. Buy both sets and SAVE A$50!

Underpinned by a tiny mintage, offi cial legal tender status and a stunning ‘raised’ full-colour design, this eye-catching Silver Proof
celebrates the 60th anniversary of the discovery of precious oil in Australia – at the Rough Range-1 site in WA in 1953.
As with other elements of Australia’s abundant natural wealth, the discovery of oil changed the nation forever. Sparking jubilation
across the country, the discovery of ‘black gold’ enhanced Australia’s national independence, boosted the economy and inspired a wave of investment in the search for natural resources. An offi cial legal tender issue, the 2013 $1 Oil Discovery Silver Proof forms a fi ne tribute to this major landmark in our history – and a collector acquisition of the utmost quality.
A must-have for anyone enchanted with full-colour coinage, this fl awless 25g sterling silver Proof is perhaps most notable for the spellbinding design. Standing out prominently from the imposing 40mm fl an, the fully embossed depiction of the oil appears to be erupting from the actual coin! The golden Outback sunset, highlighted by
a portrayal of our primary native icon, provides a glowing contrast.
Instantly acclaimed worldwide, with critics gushing in praise of its originality and spectacular aesthetic quality, the 2013 $1
Oil Discovery Silver Proof is set in a plush case with a numbered Certifi cate of Authenticity.

Every Australian PAPER $5 TYPE!
The consummate complement to the $10 set at right, we are delighted to present the Australian
1967-91 Paper $5 Collection!
A highly desirable early decimal presentation, and seldom available to collectors as a
complete set, this utterly comprehensive collection is
highlighted by every signature
combination and type from the paper $5 series. From the original $5, issued one year after decimalisation under Coombs/Wilson, to the very last, bearing the Fraser/Cole signatures, all thirteen different $5 types are included – highlighted by several scarce types!
Indeed, it is the general scarcity of the paper $5 series that makes this opportunity so special. As a low denomination, notes from the early years of Australia’s $5 series were subject to high circulation rates, and with a vast majority of notes destroyed, lost or well circulated, many types are scarce in the upper echelons of quality. With every note in strictly Uncirculated condition, this set offers you the chance to enjoy every $5 type in a perfect state of preservation – and enjoy some fantastic savings as well!
Tremendous collector value given the importance, quality and comprehensive nature of the presentation, the Complete 1967-91 Paper $5 Series is A$459 OFF

New Opal Proof!SELL-OUT CERTAIN!

Defi ned by a breathtaking fusion of precious metal and authentic Australian opal, this groundbreaking series has proved a triumph for the Perth Mint. Celebrating the wombat, koala and kangaroo respectively, each of the three coins was swept away by a tidal wave of demand. Given that so many collectors were left

Proof will surely sell-out as fast as its predecessors – if not faster!
A spectacular example of the Perth Mint’s unparalleled precious metal prowess, created through an inspired amalgam of pure, genuine Australian black opal and .999 fi ne silver, the key aspect of the 2013 $1 Opal Possum 1oz Silver Proof is the mintage. Resisting public pressure to increase the mintage to accommodate the whirlwind of demand for the Wombat, Koala and Kangaroo Opal Silver Proofs, there are only 8,000 Possum Opal Silver Proofs available to the entire worldwide market!
If you want to experience this stunning example of the power and adaptability of modern minting, then you must CALL us now. A phone order is essential. If you mail your order or even send it by email, you will be too late.
