Who are we? The first Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre was founded in 1957 by Swami Vishnudevananda. The InternationalSivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres is an international non-profit organisation based on the teachings of the Indiandoctor and Yoga master Swami Sivananda. We teach classical yoga with a holistic approach. Yoga is not only basedon the practice of postures. Yoga contains a series of practices designed to balance body and mind in order todevelop a universal vision of life.

We offer Yoga classes at different levels as well as yoga for pensioners, pregnancy and children. In addition to ouropen classes and courses, we offer workshops, courses in meditation and yoga philosophy, kirtan (mantra chanting),vegetarian cooking and Ayurveda programmes. Since 1969 over 32,000 people worldwide have been trained asSivananda Yoga teachers.

Our reception area, tea room and garden allow yoga practitioners to meet one another and to interact with theirteachers. The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre offers a traditional approach to yoga with qualified teachers and an individual level of coaching.

Our Teachers“Go to the West, people are waiting.” It is with this statement that Swami Sivananda sent one of his closest disciples,Swami Vishnudevananda to the West in 1957 to teach Yoga and Vedanta.

During his life, Swami Vishnudevananda served his Master with all his heart, bringing yoga to hundreds of thousandsof people in the West. He taught in a very practical way how to incorporate yoga into daily life in order to maintainoptimum health. As good health is a prerequisite to a spiritual practice, his motto was “Health is Wealth”. He taughthow postures, proper breathing, relaxation and proper diet can give the body strength, flexibility and vitality. With thepractice of positive thinking and meditation one can eventually achieve inner and outer peace.

In the spirit of his master Swami Sivananda, Swami Vishnudevananda taught yoga in a clear and concise style, makingit easy to understand and integrate into our daily lives. The Sivananda Yoga Centres aim is to continue his mission.

Dear Friends of Yoga,In this time of upheaval and uncertainty, yoga has a vital role to play. It teaches practical ways to take care of the body, increase our energy level, calm and focus the mind, and gives us a positive outlook on life. SwamiSivananda recommends us to live simply and to focus on uplifting thoughts. The benefits of yoga are endless. Among them are a flexible and relaxedbody, improved digestion, deeper sleep, increased vitality and emotionalbalance as well as mental clarity and a calm mind. The timeless teachingsof yoga, transmitted by the Master is not only a cure for many problems of life. They show us the path to a future filled with hope and spiritualdevelopment. We wish you lots of inspiration in your practice and are here to advise you if you so wish.

We look forward to seeing you at the Centre!
