A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE

OFFICER (DCAO) FOR PUBLIC SAFETY

Team Leader for TNI Team Glassmanor-Oxon Hill

DEDICATION, SERVICE & HONOR

I have been afforded the opportunity to serve many communities in a variety of

capacities within Public Safety for over thirty years.

As a Public Safety Official serving the residents, citizens, and visitors of this great

County, I have been both enhanced and impacted by day-to-day operations and events.

In keeping with this, when County Executive Baker appointed me to serve as one of six

Team Leaders for his new “Transforming Neighborhoods Initiative (TNI),” I welcomed

the opportunity and immediately began strategizing with my team. My background in

Public Safety prepared me to meet the challenge of providing across the board service

to the Glassmanor-Oxon Hill focus area, while maintaining and increasing established

Public Safety service levels Countywide.

Over the course of the past few weeks, I have been pleasantly surprised by the positive

feedback received from Glassmanor-Oxon Hill Community Members who have reached

out to me to acknowledge the efforts and commitment of the dedicated men and women

who comprise the TNI Glassmanor-Oxon Hill Team. I have also been moved and

inspired by the outpouring of support from the community in the wake of the loss of

Prince George’s County’s finest, Officer Adrian A. Morris, #3510.

It gives me great pride to dedicate this first edition to the many men and women who

have helped me, both past and present, in achieving the mission of providing “service

excellence!”

I thank you for your dedication, service, and the honor of working with all of you.

Family, Friends and law enforcement agencies from around the country came to honor a

fallen hero as the Prince George’s County Police Department laid to rest Police Officer

First Class Adrian Morris. The 23 year old was posthumously promoted at his funeral on

August 28, 2012 at Woodstream Church in Mitchellville. Police Officer First Class Morris

will be remembered for his enthusiasm and devotion to his family, career, community and

fellow police officers. The 2 ½ year veteran joined PGPD after volunteering as a police

Explorer for five years. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica, raised in Laurel, and became a

U.S. Citizen in 2009. POFC Morris graduated from Greenbelt’s Eleanor Roosevelt High

School in 2007. He was assigned to the District VI station for his entire career. POFC

Morris Died in the line of duty on Monday, August 20, 2012, in a car crash on I-95 in

Beltsville. POFC Morris is survived by his mother, father, brother and fiance’. He is the

27th member of the department to die in the line of duty. We are forever grateful for his

service and sacrifice to the citizens and residents of Prince George’s County.

TNI THINKPAD REPORT

The “T-PAD REPORT” is the

section of our newsletter which

captures and reports on the

team’s overall community

o u t r e a c h e f f o r t s a n d

participation.

In most instances, the community events are a part

of long-standing initiatives, and TNI Team Members are

lending their support to bring about community awareness

and provide services in the focus area. Additionally, various

TNI Team Members, in concert with their respective agencies

and the support of the community, may also plan and

participate in community events.

One such event was our “TNI Safe Summer” Basketball Game

held at Glassmanor Community Center on Monday, July 30,

2012. This successful community event was coordinated

through the joint effort of the Office of the County Executive

and Maryland National Capital Park and Planning

Commission.

H.U.T. “Helpful Information, Upcoming Events, & Tips”

►HELPFUL INFORMATION

We are working diligently to address complaints and requests regarding abandoned property

and overall blight within the focus area. In some instances, requests can be addressed via litter

pick-up or the mowing of a lawn. In other cases, it can take upwards of eighteen months or more

to “fully” process and resolve property abandonment and blight issues.

Coordinated efforts involving multiple agencies and Transforming Neighborhoods Initiative

Teams (TNI’s), are currently underway in order to identify effective ways to streamline both the

process and expedite resolution when property abandonment and blight issues arise.
