- September 11 th Timeline 8:01 am American Airlines Flight 11 takes off from Boston bound for LA. 8:14 am - United Airlines Flight 175 takes off from Boston bound for LA. 8:19 am American Flight 11 crew alerts airline to hijacking. 8:21 am American Airlines Flight 77 takes off from Washington DC bound for LA. 8:41 am United Airlines Flight 93 takes off from Newark, NJ bound for San Francisco. 8:46 am American Flight 11 crashes into North Tower of World Trade Center. President Bush is notified of crash by 8:50 am. 9:03 am UA Flight 175 crashes into South Tower of World Trade Center. President Bush is notified of second crash by 9:05 am. 9:08 am all flights going to or through NY airspace are banned. 9:12 am American Flight 77 is reported hijacked by passenger and crew member. 9:21 am all bridges and tunnels to NYC are closed. 9:31 am President Bush calls the crashes an apparent attack on our country. 9:40 am American Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon. 9:45 am all commercial flights are grounded. 9:57 am UA Flight 93 crew and passengers have notified authorities of hijacking and have mounted a counterattack. 9:59 am 10:06 am estimated time of South Tower collapse. 10:07 am estimated time of Flight 93 crash outside of Shanksville, PA. 10:15 am portion of Pentagon collapses after plane crashed into it. 10:28 am estimated time of North Tower collapse.
