    FUN FACTS By Elizabeth Matallana

A crocodile can't stick out its tongue out.A shrimp's heart is in its head. It's physically impossible for a pig to look up to the sky.If you hold a sneeze, you could fracture a rib.Like fingerprints, everyone's tongue prints are different.Rubber bands last longer refrigerated.A shark is the only fish that can blink both eyes.Did you know dolphins always keep one eye open?Chickens are unable to swallow food upside down.Did you know bulls are color blind?

Male mosquitoes are vegetarians and only females bite humans and they have 47 teethDid you know chocolate is a fruit? The opposite of a die always adds up to 7.In China, September 20th is "Love your teeth day."A Japanese artist made a copy of Mona Lisa out of toast. The electric chair was invented by a dentist.A human head remains conscious for about 15- 20 seconds after being decapitated.

Hello, this will be our fourth year at Huakailani! Today I'll be talking about the expandedlibrary, new technology, teachers, new supplies and new students.

Our Huakailani library has gotten bigger! One of the new additions are biographies. Here are some of the books: Land of the Buffalo Bones, The Story of Ruby Bridges, anLeonardo de Vinci . We love all our new books!

Here at Huakailani we have lots of hands on technology, such as Mac computers, Ipadsand smart boards. We play games somtimes and work on them too. I surveyed thestudents about their favorite Ipad games and the winner is Cookie Doodle, second wasFlyloop, and third place winner was Stack the States.

Here we have 7 teachers including Mrs. B, new teachers, old, teachers, they're allteachers! Our newest teacher is Ms. Tyau. She is a 3rd and 4th grade teacher. OnFridays she's 2nd and 3rd grade teacher. Then we have 6 other teachers, Mrs. WagneMrs. Osborne, Ms. Aeby, Mrs Avina, Keiko Sensei, and Mrs. B.

We get new supplies every year. My classmates and I all agree that at the end of theyear last year almost all of the markers were dry. It's great not having to use a drymarker! We also have our own glue sticks. I love not having to use short pencilsanymore. New supplies are great!

If you have read my last article then you know about Butterfly Fest. We held ButterflyFest to recruit more students. I guess it worked out because we have 8 more students.1 in upper school and her name is Maryn Kristof, and 7 new students in lower school. Here are their names: Hope Norris, Leilani Moran, Haley Dissanayake, Lauren Rogers,Hailey Tom, Gigi Welch, and Emily Gilbert.

ARTIST OF THE MONTHBy KAYLEE BARTRAM

This month the students of Huakailani School has been studyingGeorgia O'Keeffe is an artist. As a kid she did not do muchpainting, but in her later years she started painting close-ups of

things, mostly flowers. So the students of this school in K- 6 havebeen drawing, painting, coloring close-ups of flowers. Before thatsome of the students did a remake of their own version ofGeorgia O'Keefe's paintings. Here are some examples of close-ups of flowers drawn by some of my classmates.

    CHAMELEON TALKBy

    Claire Edwards

In the short time we have been in school so much has happened in the way of chameleons. Firstwe found out that our very own Pokie had babies! She had 11 babies, but within a month ofschool starting, they had all passed away, except for the one who is living with a studentLindsey (named Cocoa). Pokie however is perfectly fine, in fact you could even say that she hasgotten greener.

Here is some good information for you if you ever want to get a chameleon. Pokie eats about 4crickets or 4 meals worms every other day. You also need a heat lamp so they don't freeze.

Pokie also likes to have a bit of water dripping down on her from a plastic container with a holein the bottom. To keep your chameleon you need a wire mesh cage (not plastic) so they canclimb around.

Having a chameleon is a very interesting experience. Chameleons are an invasive species so ifyou find one, you could take it home and make it your pet, just like we did with Pokie andPatrick.
