That Monday, Barb Anderson Central Valley Elementary School (CVES) First Grade Teacher utilized her 26 years of musical knowledge and her students natural talent to perform for an audience that filled North Loup’s Community Center. Anderson’s class also dressed in western wear during the performance to highlight the theme of their classroom this year, “Saddle Up for a Great Year.” After she introduced 11 of her 12 CVES 1st grade students that included Dalton Dugan, Avery Johnson, Zoey Jensen, Maggie Kriewald, Julian Reynolds, Lincoln Nekoliczak, Alyssha Abrajan, Tesla Landers, Brittany Johnson, Robert Standlea and Nevaeh Vanosdall (William Pokorny was unable to attend), Anderson used her guitar to help lead the 6 and 7-year-olds in their performance. She said students began by singing “This Land is Your Land,” “ABC’s” (forwards and backwards), “I’m a Little Cow Poke” and the “Noun Song.” After they sang students asked for audience participation in helping them name their classroom pet, a stuffed horse that made the trip to North Loup with them. “We decided to name him Dusty,” Anderson added. After polling the audience, students requested audience participation again while saying jokes like: Why did God only make 1 Yogi Bear? Answer: Because when he tried to make a second one he made a Boo Boo. Anderson said Central Valley Public School staff and students participate each month at North Loup’s Community Dinners. She said performing for the community is a delight and has high hopes that her class can perform in December with the rest of CVES First Graders, instructed by Dani Ryan.
