f you’ve thought about putting in your own exterior yard lights but thought it was too complicated, I

would like to inform you that it is not. Outside yard lights can be easy to install if you have a design in mind. A first rate design is a required component of any exterior yard lights set up. Outside yard lighting comes in a number of different variations and before you start preparing, you ought to decide which choice you want to go with. Moreover, you are going to want to stay open to new lawn design concepts that may just allow you to devise something that simply

surprises you.

The Two Kinds of Outside Land-scape Lighting

The first kind of exterior yard lights is wired, electric exterior yard lights. If you are planning to install this, you are going to need to have an accessible

electrical outlet on the outside of your home. Each of the lights is connected by a string of protected electric cable. Planning for this setup you should consider both the lights and the cord they are connected to. Prior to placing any of the lights, it is recommended that you start by outlining your front or back landscape, depending on where the lights are being installed. Draw out and measure the same distance between each of the lights then plot them out inside your yard. You will want to be sure that you have plenty of cable and space for the cable behind the lights.

The advantages of going with the electric exterior yard lighting scheme are that you are able to switch it on and off when you want, it constantly has power, and you can purchase more powerful lights for the installation. The wired installations are usually less expensive too.

The alternative style of exterior yard lighting installa-tion makes us of solar lights. A solar lighting installa-tion employs sunlight and charges up in daylight then switches on when it gets dark. These systems are very easy to set up and don’t need the amount of design-ing that the cabled installation does. Besides that, it is quite easy to move the lights in the event you don’t like your initial setup. There is no upkeep needed for this style of system and it is very easy to maintain. If any component gets broken it can easily be replaced.

The advantages of installing the solar lighting arrangement are how easy it is to put in and how easy it is to adjust. This style of system can also be repaired very fast if there are some issues with the lights in the system. The primary disadvantage is that they typically are more expensive and are not quite as bright as the electric system. Also, this style of exterior yard lights requires nearly 8 hours per day of daylight to be entirely charged up, so if you live in a region with little sunlight it can be tough to keep the system working and the lights glowing bright.

As you can tell there are pros and cons to both sys-tems, so be sure to consider your locality before you come up with your final decision.

With a little ingenuity you can transform your landscape into a real stunner – it’s never too late to personalize your yard with color and style. With a little ingenuity you can transform a ho-hum landscape into a real stunner with these simple tips that add professional-looking curb appeal to your home:

You can’t enhance anything until you have a clean slate. So mow the lawn, get rid of the weeds, rake up and dispose of any leaves, edge the sidewalks and remove the grass growing between concrete seams and brick pavers. Prune the trees -- especially the ones near or touching the roof -- and add a layer of dark, natural mulch to flower beds.

Now can take a good look at your yard. How can you enhance your best features and minimize your worst? Here’s a great trick - print photos in black and white and you’ll easily see the problem areas. Determine what “flaws” you want to fix. To update your look, fill empty spaces and add interest to a drab corner or “hide” unsightly spots with colorful, ever-blooming plants.

The entrance to your home sets the mood for your entire home. Whether you want to create a formal or casual design, it should draw your eye toward the front door. Adding plants and flowers in beautiful containers on either side of the front door will add symmetry. Beautiful decorative lights posts will also add some personality to your home’s exterior.

Look for plants that are typically easy to grow, save water and don’t require a lot of work. Choose plants that are native to your area for low-maintenance beauty. Your local greenhouse can help you with any questions that you may have and assist you with setting up your design.

For those homeowners who do not have a yard, incorporate a beautiful patio garden with great potted plants and small cedar trees. White xmas lights can also add beautiful ambience to the cedar trees during the summer months. The space will become more welcoming and you’ll find yourself spending more time outdoors.

What single feature does almost every house have in common? Unless you’re living in an industrial loft space, your home’s interior most certainly includes a window with a view. Windows of all sizes allow your rooms to be bathed in natural daylight. The larger the window opening, the more light you’ll enjoy, as well as the illusion of bringing the outdoors inside to visually expand your living space.

The question becomes, should you cover your windows? There are many practical reasons to obscure your window openings. Privacy in a bedroom or bathroom is usually desired, so naturally, covering the window is required. Options abound to treat your windows such as draperies, blinds, or shades. Which is your best option is determined by the look you desire.

If you have a terrific view and would rather not hide it, opt for blinds or a shade that can be closed only when needed. When opened, either option will virtually disappear and not detract from your view. Choose a color that blends with your wall or window frames. For an accent, coordinate a short valance at the top of the window in another color used in the room. This also hides the hardware of the blinds or shade.

If your view is less than lovely, or if you prefer the softness that fabric brings to a room, consider covering your windows with draperies. In order to open the draperies to let in the daylight it requires some planning when selecting the sizes. If your window is forty eight inches wide, and your draperies are the same size, they will barely cover the window space. Additionally, when pushed open, the gathered drapery fabric on each side

will obscure a large part of the window.

The solution is to attach a drapery rod that extends beyond the window on both sides. The draperies must be selected to fit the rod length, not the window size. Allow extra fabric to wrap around the edges of the rod as well as to overlap in the center when closed. This technique will stack the drapery fabric beyond the window when the draperies are open to preserve your view. An added bonus, your window will look larger than its actual size.

Draperies contribute warmth to the room by acting as a layer of insulation in front of the glass. They also create psychological warmth by concealing the cold blackness an uncovered window presents at night.

Fabric choices for draperies are limitless. But don’t be overwhelmed. Consider what you want to accomplish. First, select a fabric that coordi-nates with the colors you have chosen for the room. Have you already used a patterned fabric on the furniture? A solid color choice for the draperies will blend but not visually compete with the other fabrics. A color that is used in the area rug will marry the floor and window surfaces together. Of course, you may use the identical fabric on furniture and draperies, but be aware of the potential busyness that may create.

Next, determine if you like the simplicity of draperies hanging on either side of the window, as compared to the more formal look of draperies that are fastened back from the window into a swag effect. To create a focal point with your window treatment, add a swag valance above the draperies.

If covering your windows is unimportant, try some unusual decorative options. Create an arrangement of plants on assorted heights of stands in front of the window. Add some hanging planters above for variety. The plants will enjoy the daylight as you transition your outdoor view inside. Or, position a freestanding decorative screen to partially cover a window. The opaque screen draws attention to the window but doesn’t overpower the window and the view.

Windows, simple or elaborate, are your opportunity to see your outside world in a new way by decoratively framing your interior view.

When planning your room arrangements you have many decisions to make. The size of the room, the traffic patterns, locations of the windows and doors will all affect the furniture you select. Once you have determined your spatial boundaries and made a list of the furniture pieces that you require, it’s time to add some descriptive details to the words on your list; sofa, love seat, chair, tables, area rugs and lamps.

As you shop for furniture items to fit your needs, notice how may room settings are configured with matching fabrics on the upholstered furniture and that are flanked with identical tables and pairs of lamps. You must decide if the matched set look is for you. Of course there is no possibility of an uncoordinated look when all the pieces are matched.

But remember, variety is the spice of life.

The matched vignette in the store is meant to display the assortment of furniture pieces available in the given style. If you like the shape and style of the sofa, the staged arrangement lets you know there are also smaller versions, the love seat and chair, in the same shape and color. The design of the wood end table is mimicked by that of the cocktail table and sofa table. The lamps are shown in pairs to give a balanced appearance to the display. Various sizes of area rugs may be layered on top of each other to show the available selection.

Sameness is a great way to merchandise a furniture store for the ease of the customer’s selection. In your home, that same matched look is too predictable. That’s not to say that no two items can be the same fabric or wood finish or size. Just think about adding some variety as you make your selections.

Consider choosing a love seat in a patterned fabric if your sofa is a solid color. Or substitute two chairs, each in different fabrics in place of a love seat. Use one square end table next to the sofa, and place a round, skirted table at the other end of the

sofa. There’s an opportunity to introduce another fabric or color. Selecting tables with similar heights that work well next to the arm of the sofa is your only consideration.

The cocktail table can be of a totally different material, such as a glass or marble top with a metal base. The shape can be oblong, oval or freeform to fit the space. Lamps need only be of a similar scale, so the lamp bases and shades can have their own personality. Select a unique area rug for the seating area and a different shape or style for the walkway and other areas in the room.

Art work hung in pairs is a pleasant option on the wall, but of course you wouldn’t duplicate the same picture twice. Similar frame profiles or finishes on different pieces of art will blend your unique art pieces when displayed together. An assorted collection of grouped accessories is always more interesting than the same three bowls or vases arrayed on a table top. What creates a more visually attractive display on your bookshelf, a matched set of encyclopedias, or a variety of colorful and unique book titles?

Are you concerned the eclectic mixture of furniture pieces and accessories won’t look good together? As long as you have chosen a coordinating color pallet and sizes appropriate to you room space, your selections will blend together perfectly.

Instead of a roomful of mirror images, every lovely furniture piece will be unique to your room arrangement. Each carefully selected item will stand on its own.

How much time do you waste searching for things in your closet? How much of your wardrobe never sees the light of day because it is stuck at the bottom of the pile? Ever have those Aha! moments when you find something that you forgot you owned? Well, if this sounds all too familiar, then you are in dire need of a closet make-over. Organizing your closet is a sensible thing to do, because aside from saving time, a clean uncluttered closet also induces a sense of calm.

1. Wire ShelvingNowadays, there is a whole industry dedicated to helping homeowners organize their lives. Many companies produce ready-made closet organizers, some of which are extremely versatile because the shelves are adjustable. These kinds of creating modern closets are better known as wire shelving.

- Specifically designed to maximize the space you have

- Most modern houses these days lack space

- Combines modern living and practicality

- Affordability

- Versatility

- Fits any space

- All the convenience of custom built closets

- A fraction of the cost

2. Know What You NeedLike any activities that need preparations, before starting of doing wire shelving, it is a must that you prepare your tools and materials first. For tools, you will be needing

- Tape measures

- Bolt cutters

- Hacksaw

- Drill bits

- Drivers

- Pencil

- Level

- Hammer

3. Verify The Shelf SizeTo verify the shelf size that you need, you have to determine the length of your shelf that will be placed against the wall. Then, deduct about three fourths of an inch provided that the shelf will not tap the wall on a single end. If it does or if the two ends touch the wall, deduct one and one-half of an inch, instead of three fourths of an inch. Thereafter, cut down the portion of the shelving into the appropriate lengths with the use of a hacksaw or the bolt cutters. Be careful when doing this. Keep in mind that

you should not cut closer than 1 inch to the perpendicular spacers on the border edge of the shelf.

4. Determine The Type Of Wire ShelvingBasically, wire shelving is installed against the wall through the use of screw-mounted clips and its support from the brackets. It is impor-tant, however, that you know what kind of wire shelving you want. This is because the method of mounting the clips is entirely dependent on

the wall materials.

For example, for a concrete wall, you need to make a one quarter inch hole deep with a masonry bit and fasten the clip with a 8 x 1 inch screw. If your wall, however, is solid wood, then the installation should start from cutting the rear projection from the clip and securing the clip against the wall with a 8 x 1 inch wood screw.

5. Experience The Difference- If you already know what method to be used in installing the clips, proceed to the next step by marking the position of the first clip

- Create a corresponding indicator on the other end and construct equal interval indicators in-between. Bear in mind that there should be no two indicators that are more than 12 inches apart

- With each indicator, calculate 5/8 inch up from the guide line and mark an x to specify the spot of the screw that needs to secure the plastic clip

- Make a hole in the center of every spot marked with x

- Strike the clip into the hole with the handle of a hammer and fasten it with a fastening screw

- Provide support to your shelves by securing end brackets and support braces

...”Patio heaters are heaters for use in open spaces. They are popular for domestic use and outside dining areas particularly in open cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating.

They usually heat a radius of 10-20 feet. However the radius varies according to the model and ambient atmosphere. The heaters usually raise the temperature from 10-30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Patio heaters are not designed for chilly winters as that would require a heavy duty heater with enormous energy consumption. They are used for relatively little increase in ambient temperature and particularly used in the evenings of late fall and early spring.

Patio heaters run on a variety of fuel like natural gas, propane, butane, kerosene etc. Some electric models are also available. The natural gas models are popular because they use the same fuel system as an outside grill. Portable heaters have a portable cylinder attached to the heating unit.

The principle used in most heaters is to heat using radiated heat and not convection. As a lot of energy gets used up in heating air for convection heating and very less percentage of heat is left for the user convection heating is not feasible. Radiative heating patio heaters are more economical as they provide heat to the user and air is not heated.

The heaters are provided with a heavy aluminum reflector at the top to direct the heat downwards and outwards from the heater. These aluminum reflector type models are termed as mushroom patio heaters or umbrella patio heaters. The pole is usually 3 to 7 feet tall. Ceiling patio heaters are also available in the market. These are installed permanently and need less maintenance than the portable one.

Heaters radiate anywhere up to 35,000 BTU (British Thermal Units). The emitter reaches a temperature up to 1150 degrees Fahrenheit. This causes bluing of the stainless steel. Also a brownish color develops on the emitter which appears like rust. However there is no cause for alarm as this brownish tint is normal and is not rusting of the unit.

The cost of patio heaters varies as per the model. A reasonable quality patio heater may cost between $100 to $300. Look for safety features like tilt switches,

sealed burners, emergency cut off valves, flame controllers and electronic ignition systems etc when purchasing.

These items are available in shops where natural gas or butane is available. Some specialty shops for home decorating also keep patio heaters. Do not treat them as toys. It is prudent not to let children operate them.

Your friend just got her kitchen renovated; it looks astonishing with the granite countertops and the rough looking tile backsplash. The cabinets have glass doors and full of good china. In some way, after she used up all her money for the renovation, the kitchen still appears to be a little dull. People often ignore the lighting when it comes to renovating their houses. It is important that the lighting is correctly positioned in the room. Correct lighting can emphasize the paints, floors and other accessories of your home.

Blending of lights and can make a room different. Bright lights are used for working environment and faint light for some settings like dates. The lights should be properly matched for the type and color of the room and for the occasion. Lightings in your bathroom is also significant. You should not place lower level lights on the ceiling if the extra lights are not positioned close to the vanity. If you put wall sconce as your supplementary light, then you can get rid of the dilemma. Lightings should be cautiously planned to be able to make the designs of your home projected properly.

There were three kinds of lighting according to the designers; these are the lights that the planners should choose to make the lights positioned properly.

For working, it is advisable to use “task lights”, from the name itself; it means a light that is intended for working purposes, the most common kind of this light is the table lamp. Another one is the “accent lighting”. This lights are use to highlight the designs in your home especially the ceiling. The last type is “ambient lighting”. It is the light that lights the whole area it can cover. Did you know that lights have important roles in controlling the moods of humans? Lights affect the working area. If the area is not lighted properly, then we feel uncomfortable.

It is hard to identify which lights are suitable to a home theater. Remember that the lights should be even. Shadows are often casts on screen if the lights are not balanced. Make the room for home theatre looking pleasant to everyone, plan first before you buy things like this. You always have an option, if you think you can not decide for yourself, you can hire an interior decorator, but if you have a small budget, you can buy magazines about decorating. That’s a lot cheaper than hiring an interior decorator.

Make up your mind first, decide on what theme your house designs should be before

planning to renovate it as well as buying necessary materials for the construction. Furniture should be carefully chosen, it should match the theme of your designs.

When seeing a movie, dimness is not appreciated so much. Your movements are limited because it is too dark and it is also causing eyestrain. On the other hand, with correct lighting, it is probable to radiate a false impression that there is light. Movie theatres use wall sconce to build a low light just right to lessen the eyestrain while watching.

For a suitably lighted room the lights must have their own switches. There should not be more than three lights for every switch. This is to control the lightings. There are many experts who specialized in lighting, if you have any query do not be shy to seek for advice. There are a lot of experts out there who are ready to help you.

If you check out the outdoor walls of your home, usually you will see nothing. At times, some of us just give them texture by the use of materials like bricks and stones. Well this is such a great idea at least your homes will not look boring at all. However, if your walls look flat outside, you can always do something about it other than repainting it or spending large amount of money to have your walls redesigned.

There are cheaper ways to redecorate your outside walls. This should not be a problem because all you have to do is to add pieces that are affordable and practical to buy. In addition, they should be something that can withstand the weather outside. If you look at your local hardware stores, you can see various materials that can be use as your accent to your home walls and one of it is the use of metals.

Metal works are very popular nowadays in styling homes. Various artists have come up with great ideas on how to utilize metals as a raw material for home decorations. They can be used both inside and outside your homes and they will never fail in making at-tractions for every room that they transform. Therefore, if you seem not contented with look of your walls outdoor, then it is time to use a wall décor that can match the ambi-ance outside your house.

If you have no idea what you will be get-ting, take these tips below to have an idea what metals works you can add outside your house:

1. Copper Works of art- You can look for clocks and other sculptures that you can hang on your walls. They have great shapes that are pleasant to the eye and bring the earthiness of outdoors closer to walls of your homes.

2. Iron wall hangings- They are just like copper and they can be very intricate too. They are usually big. Therefore, they can be a good focal point in your patio or balcony. They can be good pieces to deco-

rate your lounging area outside your home.

3. Lanterns- They are good ways to illuminate your homes at night. These small ways to lighten up your homes can be very well used in providing a not too bright light that can make your homes look warm and cozy at a sight.

4. Fountains- Water is a natural ele-ment and with its presence, things can look really soothing and calming. This wall décor can really be perfect outdoors creating a Zen look to your outdoors. They can blend perfectly with your greens on your lawn.

Most of the time, metal wall sculptures work well for your homes. However, there are no clear-cut rules on what you should be placing outside your homes just as long as they are durable and beautiful. Therefore, in choosing one look for these items and they can really help you out in making your homes look beautiful from outside. Just make sure they are tough enough to handle the weather.

Italian salami is not often named as a typical Italian product, even if it is really present in Italians daily diet.

This simple cold cut is commonly used in Italy in an antipasto or, more commonly, inside a sandwich that a young Italian student eat at school pause.

Generally salami is made with 1/3 beef, 1/3 pork and 1/3 fat. This proportion varies depending on the kind of salami. For example, the felino one is usually made with precious meat and less fat, being considered a gourmet one.

Outside Italy, cold cuts are not always fresh and often are considered as something conserved, not appropriate for a daily diet.

This false impression is due to the fact that often these cold cuts are not consumed often in these countries, associated with fat and conserved food.

They are indeed conserved, and one should not base the own diet on cold cuts. But it is not a drastic choice, as they have high nutritional values.

Italian salami has a protein percentage range that goes from 24 to 30%, and contains potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and B1, B2 and PP vitamins.

Besides salami, there are a wide variety of Italian cold cuts that can be easily found in any Italian market, for daily use. The cold cuts counter has always a queue of people buying salami, prosciutto, mortadella, between other varieties.

Many times the word-of-mouth fails. The famous Italian raw proscuitto is often a label for less valuable cold cuts or just different products.

Between the Italian raw hams, one of the most famous one is called Proscuitto di Parma. This product has the European Quality Brand PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), so as 7 other Italian raw hams. But often people just say “Parma” thinking they are saying “Italian raw

ham”.

Proscuitto di Parma is a wonderful product, so is the Tuscan one, but they are different. The Parma one is sweeter, and the Tuscan one is salted (it is salted because originally used by the shepherd s with the

Tuscan bread, that has quite no salt).

Italian raw ham is a gourmet product and is used in all diets, including the children ones, as it is a healthy choice, being rich in proteins an easy to digest.

The “poorest” cold cut is mortadella. It is considered poor because who couldn’t afford buying raw ham, bought mortadella. But it is not poor in taste, rather it pleases all. A fresh and crispy piece of bread with a tiny slices of mortadella is one of the taste major delights.

Mortadella is made only of pork. During the 1600’s a cardinal settled a prohibition of including beef into the mortadella recipe, prohibiting also the production of this specialty outside the city of Bologna, as it was difficult to control these productions. These rules have changed, as it is produced in many other cities now, but a good mortadella must always contain only pork.

In an average Italian family, cold cuts are used for children sandwiches at school – it is surely a better choice comparing to extra sweet snacks, as antipasto and as an alternative dinner.

Specially when one is hungry, the vision of a table set with cold cuts as Italian salami, prosciutto and mortadella together with a couple of baskets containing fresh bread, some good Italian cheeses and a bottle of Italian red wine is surely an excellent choice.

from Weber’s Real Grilling™ by Jamie PurviancePrep Time: 20 minutesMarinating Time: Grilling Time: 15 to 20 minutes

Sauce• 8 ripe, plum tomatoes, stems removed• 1 jalapeño chile pepper, stem and seeds removed• 1/2 cup tightly packed fresh basil leaves• 1/3 cup roughly chopped red onion• 1/4 cup tightly packed fresh cilantro leaves• 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice• 2 teaspoons minced garlic• Kosher salt• Freshly ground black pepper

Rub• 1 teaspoon paprika• 1 teaspoon dark brown sugar• 1 teaspoon kosher salt• 1/2 teaspoon pure chile powder• 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper• 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice • 2 pork tenderloins, about 1 pound each• Extra virgin olive oil

1. Grill the tomatoes and jalapeño over direct high heat (450°F to 550°F), with the lid closed as much as possible, until blackened and blistered in spots, turning as needed. The tomatoes will take 4 to 6 minutes and the jalapeño will take 2 to 3 minutes. Put the tomatoes and jalapeño in a food processor along with the remain-ing sauce ingredients, including salt and pepper to taste, and process until smooth. Transfer the sauce to a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and allow to cook until the sauce has thickened slightly, 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2. In a small bowl mix the rub ingredients with your fingertips.

3. Trim any excess fat and silver skin from the tenderloins. Allow to stand at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes before grilling. Lightly brush or spray with oil and spread the rub all over, pressing the spices into the meat.

4. Grill over direct medium heat (350°F to 450°F), with the lid closed as much as possible, until the pork is barely pink in the center, 15 to 20 minutes, turning every 5 minutes. Remove from the grill and let rest for 3 to 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with the sauce.

Due to an increasing awareness of nutritional issues, salsas have become the best selling condiment in North America. This is largely because they are low in cholesterol, fat, and calories and because they provide a great way to add flavor to even the dullest of dishes.

Salsas are traditionally spicy and vegetable based and can be cooked or uncooked, but there are many variations of salsa. Tomato salsas are great with chicken or beef but you might want to try a mango based salsa over fish tacos or even pork tenderloin. A sweet Pineapple based salsa goes great with blackened seafood or chicken and compliments the smoky, spicy flavor. For a great tasting fruity salsa try the melon like flavor of papaya blended with spicy hot peppers, this creates a mouth watering topping for chicken or pork.

Salsa has become the best selling condiment and has recently pushed ketchup right out of the top-selling spotlight. We appear to be returning to a healthier way of eating and salsa does more than bring color and variety to a plate, salsa can round out the nutritional needs of any meal.

Some Salsa Nutritional Facts:

Tomatoes contain lycopene, the carotenoid pigment that turns tomatoes to red and may help to prevent some forms of cancer by lessening the damage caused by free radicals. Tomatoes are also a good source of beta carotene and potassium.

Onions are low in calories yet add abundant flavor to a wide variety of foods. With only 45 calories per serving, onions are fat and cholesterol free, very low in sodium, high in vitamin C, and a good source of fiber and other key nutrients. Onions contain generous amounts of a flavonoid called quercetin. Other sources are tea and apples, but research shows that absorption of quercetin from onions is twice that from tea and more than three times that from apples. Studies have shown that quercetin protects against cataracts, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

Garlic is a tasty addition to any salsa and the aromatic seasoning that people either love or hate. It’s been said that if garlic had been created in the laboratory instead

of by nature, it would probably be a high-priced prescription drug. That’s how really good it is. Medical studies have shown that garlic can lower cholesterol, prevent dangerous blood clots, reduce blood pressure, prevent cancer, and protect against bacterial and fungal infections.

Jalapeño Peppers are a good source of vitamin C, folate and vitamin A but are not the only pepper that can be used in salsa. Here are some examples of different peppers that can be used and they are ranked from mild to hot.

• El Paso (Very mild)• Anaheim• Jalapeno• Serrano• Cayenne• Tabasco• Red Chile• Chiltecpin• Kumataka• Habanero (One of the hottest - 30 to 50 times hotter than a Jalapeno)

Isn’t it nice to know that when we smother our food with salsa, we are adding the great nutritional benefits of fruits and vegetables?

So this summer when you find yourself with an abundance of tomatoes from your garden try making some healthy homemade salsa. If you are interested in some great tasting salsa recipes or have some you would like to share go to www.PennysTomatoes.com.

Maintaining soft and younger-looking skin does not have to break your budget. If you cannot afford to go to the spa to have a facial or body scrub regularly, then you can always rely on the power of nature to help you get the celebrity-looking skin that you’ve always longed for. For example, eating at least five servings of fruits and vegetables everyday can be really helpful in making your skin glow.

Although all plant produce contain the vitamins and minerals you need to keep your skin healthy, some food have more skin-friendly nutrients and antioxidants than others. If you think you need additional help to combat signs of skin aging, such as redness, sunburn, wrinkles, and dryness, then you ought to know these five power foods that are packed with necessary components to banish your skin woes.

ChocolateMany people stay away from chocolates because they think these goodies are fattening. In truth, however, sugar and milk that are mixed with cocoa to create milk chocolate bars are the reason why you gain weight when eating chocolates. However, dark chocolate, which has a higher percentage of cocoa, is actually good for you and your skin because it is rich in antioxidants.

A study conducted in Germany showed that women who regularly consume cocoa-rich products that have high amounts of flavonol possess smoother and more hydrated skin. Furthermore, redness and damages from sun exposure are minimal among these women. If you are concerned about chocolates making you fat, you can always consume chocolate-based beverages or products that are made up of at least 70% cocoa.

Green TeaThe popularity of green tea has surged over the last couple of years because of the discovery that this concoction is loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. In fact, people who are trying to shed some pounds are drinking several glasses of this nature-colored tea to help increase metabolism and suppress cravings.

Aside from helping in trimming down the fat, green tea is effective in fighting some types of cancer, inflammation, and even skin aging. If you are serious in having a soft and supple skin, you better replace soda and other sugar-rich beverages with hot or cold green tea.

FishOmega 3 and 6 are essential fatty acids that are found in fatty fish, such as cod, salmon and tilapia. Omega 3 fatty acid, which your body cannot manufacture on its own, is important in strengthening your skin barrier or protecting it from irritants and pollution. Furthermore, it also keeps the moisture in your skin, helping prevent dryness. Alternative medicine practitioners also believe that this fatty acid aids in treating rosacea, dermatitis, and other skin problems.

Aside from the sun, Omega 6 is a good source of Vitamin D. It is a known fact that Vitamin D is important in keeping calcium levels in the body balanced; it is also vital in bolstering immunity and even in regulating blood pressure. Thus, you really do not have to expose yourself too much to the rays of the sun to get the right amounts of Vitamin D that you need.

BroccoliThis cruciferous vegetable is really a powerhouse of nutrients. Eating broccoli everyday will not only help you attain beautiful skin, but it will also fight peptic ulcer, some forms of cancer and other diseases as well. Broccoli is a good source of Vitamin A, which reduces oil production; Vitamin K, which averts the formation of bruises; and Vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant that prevents fine lines and wrinkles.

AlmondsVitamin E has long been known to assist in cellular regeneration and reducing the signs of aging. Moreover, this nutrient is also responsible for keeping your skin moisturized and hydrated. One of the best food sources of this substance is almond; eating a handful daily can increase the levels of Vitamin E in your body.

Although the food that you eat can contribute to healthy-looking skin, you also need help from topical creams and gels to get rid of skin blemishes like pimples, skin discoloration, and even wrinkles.

Online shopping has become the norm for many of us who seek rare products, great deals and the ultimate in convenience. But there is a growing issue that keeps cautious shoppers from filling their virtual shopping carts - fraud. Despite all the efforts to secure online shopping, fraud rates continue to rise. To understand why, here is a non technical overview of how online transactions are processed.

Every time you purchase something online there are a few steps that happen almost instantly behind the scenes. After you manually enter your credit card information into the appropriate boxes on a website, the packets of information travel through

your computer and eventually reach a part of your computer called the cryptographic processor. This is what scrambles or ‘encrypts’ your information so hackers can’t steal it. Once the information is encrypted it is sent securely over the internet to a secure website where they de-crypt it and charge the purchase to your card. It is extremely difficult for hackers to steal your sensitive information while it is in transit over the internet or on the seller’s website because it is scrambled. However, from the time you type your numbers in, to the time the information reaches the cryptographic processor your information is not encrypted and is, therefore, vulnerable. While online stores spend millions every year to make sure their sites are secure, they are incapable of securing everyone’s personal computer and hackers are taking advantage of this weakness.

In fact, stealing personal information off someone’s computer can be quite simple. Hackers have a whole arsenal of weapons at their disposal including Spyware, Malware, Scareware,

keystroke loggers, man-in-the-middle attacks, and phishing attacks, to name a few. Often times the sole purpose of these tools is to steal sensitive personal information. These programs run behind the scenes spying on your computer and tracking your keystrokes. In many cases these programs are on a computer and running undetected. To scare you even more, victims are chosen randomly and it can happen to literally anyone with a computer. While anti-virus programs and firewalls block many of these programs, they are ineffective against newly developed attacks until the program becomes well known and defenses are built to block their invasion.

So what can consumers do to protect themselves? Keeping an anti-virus program updated and making sure you trust the website you are shopping at is a good start, but still not foolproof. There is still a hole in

your computer that criminals can exploit. One way to close this hole is a locally developed tool called the SmartSwipe. The SmartSwipe is a credit card reader for your home computer. The device plugs into your computer’s USB port and scrambles the card information before it reaches your computer so there is no point at which the information is unprotected. Plus, you get to swipe your card through the SmartSwipe device instead of having to type it in, making online purchasing even quicker and easier.

I don’t want to scare you - online shopping is great way to shop, period. However, it is important to be aware of the potential risks and how to avoid them. For more information on the risks of online shopping and how to keep safe, visit www.smartswipe.ca

Hello Reena,I have taken on the daunting task of removing carpeting from my basement floor. The carpet came up like a dream but the foam underneath is stuck to the concrete. I have been on my knees for two days with a putty knife trying to get this stuff off. Do you have any tips to make this mind numbingly frustrating task easier? Ketree P.S. I am purchasing several of your books to give out as Christmas gifts! Hi Ketree,Pour hot water onto the foam. Let the water soak for 10 minutes. Scrape with a long handled ice scraper and remove all of the foam. The job will be so simple that you will be smiling all the way to the kitchen as you make your ‘pat on the back 10 layer chocolate cake’ cause that’s what everyone does when they are proud of themselves, right? Dear Reena,I am wondering if know how I can remove a dog urine stain off my laminate flooring. My daughter brought her spaniel over to visit my condo and she was so excited that she urinated on the flooring. I threw a towel on it and swirled it around thinking I would wash the floor after they left and of course I forgot. No matter what I try I cannot get the white colored stain out of the panels of flooring. Please advise if you know of any remedies that might help me remove the stains. Thank you, Deborah Deborah,Although I don’t know which cleaners you used on your floor, I am assuming that you tried; laminate floor cleaner, water and ammonia or water and vinegar and have had disappointing results. Typically laminate flooring is tough and almost anything can be cleaned with little effort as long as it is done fairly soon after a spill. However, in this case it sounds like the dog’s urine may have slightly bleached the floor finish. Since you probably don’t want to replace the boards and no amount of cleaners is going to clean a bleach stain, you are best off taking a trip to your local hardware store. Bring a piece of laminate with you and color match the floor to a wax stick or touch-up pen. Dear Reena,I am opening a brand new preschool in my home. Do you have a really good recipe for play dough? Cindy Dear Cindy,Congratulations on the new preschool! Here’s my favorite play dough recipe: Bring to a boil: 2 cups water, half cup sea salt and 2 tbsp. cooking oil. When salt is dissolved, remove the pot from heat. Add food coloring, 2 tbsp. cream of tartar and 2 cups flour. Stir well and cool. Slip on rubber

gloves and knead the dough until pliable. Store in a sealed plastic bag. Dear Reena,Is it possible to store crushed garlic so that it is ready-to-use? Shauna Dear Shauna,You can store minced garlic in the refrigerator in an air-tight container. Although the most active sulfur compound diminishes within a few hours, refrigeration will slightly slow the process. Use refrigerated garlic as soon as possible. Some people are tempted to freeze garlic, but this is not recommended because its texture changes, as does its flavor. Dear Reena,Our 3 year old leather chair has a dark spot where my head rests. Is there a way to clean my leather chair? I have heard that I should not use saddle soap as it is too strong for leather furniture. Once cleaned, is there a “daily” ritual that I should follow to keep our chair clean? Thank you for any help that you can provide. Louise Hi Louise,I agree that saddle soap is a little to harsh for regular leather cleaning but once in awhile saddle soap is a smart choice. This stain may fade over time if you place a cloth onto the area where your head likes to rest. I once removed a grease stain on leather furniture with the following tip: smooth on a dry paste of baking soda and water to soak up the grease mark. Leave for one hour. Remove paste by scraping with a plastic putty knife, brushing, or vacuuming. Repeat until the grease is completely gone. Rinse with water, (do not soak leather) let dry. Alternatively you can purchase leather cleaners where leather furniture is sold. Persistence is the key! As for regular cleaning either vacuum or wipe leather with a damp cloth.

FABULOUS GRAVY TIPS OF THE WEEK: Adding a teaspoon of instant coffee granules or cocoa per two cups gravy enriches the flavor as well as adds color. Cooked meat stores and freezes better in its gravy. The gravy keeps the meat from drying out. Cornstarch has twice the thickening power of flour. Instant mashed potato flakes will work as a thickener for gravy and produces no lumps. You may need extra salt.

Radiators used in autos help to keep the engine cool. To know how it helps the engine, you need to study the car mechanism. When you switch on the engine of your auto, it produces large amount of energy and heat. This heat expels out from the exhaust system.

The remaining stagnant stays in engine area. Even though, engine of all autos require heat to function at the optimum level, too much of energy, and heat destroys the inner mechanics of car engine. If the intensity of heat is high, it melts pistons as well as cylinders present within the engine. Moreover, if it happens, then you cannot drive your auto anymore. So, in such radiators for autos come into rescue.

How Does It Really Help?

Radiators are made from aluminum. These radiators contain an array of long tubes that go through engine of the auto. The tubes contain liquid coolant, which provides relief to the internal parts of auto during the engine heating session. Later, water pump present in the engine helps the cooling fluid circulate throughout the engine. Thus, the job of radiator is to ease the progress of heat within the engine exchanger.

Radiator is a significant part of the cooling system of your auto and its basic function is to keep the auto temperature at normal level, so that the car may deliver its maximum potential. In different words, engine needs to be hot enough to deliver speed, but not

too hot.

Radiator also helps the fuel to convert in vapor easily and quickly. When fuel is converted into water vapor in the combustion chamber, the process of combustion becomes more efficient. In addition, the auto releases less amount of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere.

Moreover, with the help of radiator if engine runs at perfect temperature, then it means oil lubricates the engine consistently and helps the parts of automobile to run smoothly, thereby ensuring longer lifespan of the vehicle.

Radiator does not show any problems, but if your thermostat breaks down due to overheating, then radiator may start developing troubles. It may seriously impair the performance of your vehicle. In addition, the emission levels will be too high. Thus, you need to install high quality thermostats, as well as radiator in your automobile.

Taking Care:

Radiators used in autos are costly and you cannot afford to replace them too often. Therefore, while buying a car, you need to check for the presence of any pores in its radiator. If the radiator has pores, then coolants will leak in the engine. As a result, your car may break down any moment after heating up.

Next, dust particles can clog the radiator severely, so clean it routinely. If you have an expensive car and think that you do not have to look after the radiator maintenance, you are wrong, because the basic mechanism of car remains the same. Hence, you need to need to keep the tool (radiator) in working order, for the longevity of your autos.

I just love the results that hills give to my running. No other workout gives more to my running than hills. Want to run fast, run some hills. Want to increase your leg strength, run hills. Want to work on your running mechanics, run hills. Want to increase your mental toughness, run some hills. Want to get in shape fast, run some hills.

Every time that I stop running hills for an extended period of time I start to run slower. I’m not sure why I always stop. Probably the pain that I feel when I run hills hard. The shear agony that running up a half mile long hill at 5k effort can bring, is this why?

When I am running my best it has always happened after running hills once a week for a couple of months. The increased leg strength that I develop and my increase in lung capacity are just a few of the reasons for running so well.

Our running club meets once a week to run a course that is called ball busters. This is a 7 mile course of 12 hills that increase in difficulty. Each hill has a different grade and length. And at the top of each hill there is a flat section leading to the next hill.

I can run many different types of hill workouts on this one course. One time I will concentrate on running the uphill sections hard. The next time I might run the hills and flat section hard. Or another week I can run the whole course as fast as I can. There are so many ways to run this course that I shouldn’t become bored with hills.

What can a person do that lives in an area were hills are not available? Options can include running stairs, hill workouts on treadmills, stadium bleachers. I have heard of runners using beach areas.

Treadmills are an excellent way to run hills. A common injury caused by hills is running back down. Using a treadmill you can correct this problem.

After running the hill reducing the incline back to zero during your rest period. By not running downhill the landing shock reduced.

Treadmills can simulate most any hill. The length or speed running up the hill can be varied to meet your needs. A good treadmill hill workout could be ¼ mile uphill repeats with a ¼ mile jog. Choose a speed that might seem a little slow at first. As the incline increases the intensity will also increase.

Many people today are enhancing their vehicles to make them look better and get additional benefits from doing so. There are many modifications you can make to your vehicle; however tinting your vehicles window is the most common. Some people tint their vehicles windows for looks and others have a different motive. So, why are so many today tinting their vehicles windows?

One reason that many are getting their windows tinted is because it improves the look of your vehicle. Window tint is very good at making your vehicle look better and worth more. It can even add value to your resale value.

Another reason that windowing tinting is being used so much is that it keeps the heat out. Window tint keeps the inside temperature of your vehicle lower since it blocks out a lot of UV rays. This is a great option to have on your car especially if you live in areas like Florida and California where the sun beats down constantly on your vehicle.

Window tint can prevent interior damage from occurring in your vehicle. Since the tint blocks out UV rays and keeps the temperature lower it can help prevent your car’s interior from cracking and becoming dull. This can save you a lot of money from needing interior repairs.

It provides more safety if involved in an accident. Believe it or not the tint actually helps hold the window together better and prevents it from shattering if involved in an accident.

Also, it can serve as a form of theft protection. With window tint it will be harder to see inside your vehicle giving your more privacy and less of a chance of thieves seeing what is in your car. That way you will have an added form of protection.

Window tinting can even

protect your skin. UV rays can be harmful to your skin, even while driving in your car. If you have your windows tinting it will prevent those rays from contact-ing your skin, and prevent your skin from sun damage.

Window tint can also give you a safer ride since it can reduce glare from the sun, snow, and other headlights which will help you drive safer.

You can save money on gas by tinting your windows. Since the window tint will keep your car cooler you will have to use less air to get your car cooler and that will save you money at the pumps on gas. If this isn’t a good enough reason I don’t know what is.

With all of these advantages you might think that window tinting would be costly, however it is not that expensive to get your vehicles windows tinted. This is another reason it is common for people to tint their windows. They get a lot of benefits at a low cost to them.

As you can see there are many benefits to getting your windows tinted. So, stop waiting and start looking for a professional to tint your vehicles windows today so you can reap the benefits of window tint!

A car with automatic transmission was first developed in the 1940’s; the popularity of the automatic gear box has risen greatly from the 50’s. They have become hugely successful in the United States and other parts of the world, but in Europe the old fashioned manual transmission still reins supreme with car customers. Having a car with an automatic transmission system means that there is no clutch pedal and there is no need to worry about gear changing as the automatic gear box does all the hard work for you. It’s an argument of preference between purchasing a car with an automatic or a manual gear box. Some advantages of both over the other are highlighted below.

Advantages of Automatic

Automatic cars are much easier to get used to, especially if you are a new, elderly or learner driver. Some people prefer them because there is no need to worry about which gear to select or the actual manual gear changing itself, the clever automatic transmission does it all for you, this is especially advantageous when driving through traffic or busy towns and cities as you don’t have to worry about constantly changing gears as you would with a manual transmission. Learner drivers are allowed to learn and take their test in an automatic car which could turn out easier to pass, however if you do pass using an automatic

car it will be on your licence and you will not be allowed under law to drive a manual transmission car.

Advantages of Manual

The biggest benefit of using a car with manual transmission is you have a greater control over gear selection; gears can be selected and changed in accordance to the person’s judgment and the situation in hand. There are also greater financial benefits if you own a manual transmission car, it is a well known fact that cars with an automatic gear box will use more fuel per journey over the same car in its class with a manual submission, which could be down to many facts such as automatic cars are usually heavier. Manual cars are not only cheaper to run but they are also cheaper to maintain, if something goes wrong with the transmission on an automatic car it can become very expen-sive indeed to fix. If your battery or something else related where you will need to bump start the car, this is very easy to do with a manual car as you put it in gear, roll down the hill and bump it, with an automatic car however you can’t really do this so you will have to call for road side assistance instead. Manual transmission cars are also slightly cheaper to purchase in the first place compared to cars with an automatic transmission.

Technological advances in the car industry has enabled the gap between cars with automatic and manual submissions to shorten, as a result more and more people are investing their money in an automatic car as their next new automobile. For some people who are unsure, there are semi-automatic cars on the market which have an automatic transmission system but also they will usually feature an override button so you can switch to manual transmission using the gear stick.

When out in the wilderness, you need to be ready for any type of situation. After all, you will generally be out in the middle of nowhere. That’s why hunters normally bring medical supplies and first aid kits with them. Unfortunately, they tend to forget about their hunting dogs in that respect. Hunting dogs can get hurt, too, and they need just as many medical supplies as you. Because of this, you should stock up on some hunting dog medical supplies for your next hunting trip.

Hunting dog medical supplies are a bit different than humans’ first aid kits. Dogs rarely benefit from emergency aspirin or from adhesive bandages. Instead, most of what’s in a hunting dog medical kit is for serious injuries only. After all, most dogs are tough enough to handle minor injuries. One of the first hunting dog medical supplies you should get is gauze. There are occasions where a dog might get a flesh wound. This can happen if they get in a fight with another animal, or if they get caught in some brambles. You should carry gauze with you just in case this happens. When the dog gets hurt, clean the wound with some water and wrap it with gauze. They should be fine until the end of your hunting trip.

Another entry into your hunting dog medical supplies kit is a splint. Dogs are used

to running around in tough conditions without thinking about their safety. This can cause some dogs to fall off of high places. If this happens, they may end up breaking a leg. This happens more often than you would expect. In a case like this, you should splint up your dog’s leg with gauze and splint to keep in safe until you leave. If something like this happens, you should probably leave immediately. Broken bones are serious business and the leg should be looked at by a veterinarian. Because of the importance of this kind of injury, a splint is one of the must have hunting dog medical supplies that you should carry with you when you go on your hunting trip.

There are other, less important items that should be in the dog health kit. Most large pet stores carry a small kit that you can bring with you while you’re in the wilderness. It will have all of the small items that you’ll need, including tweezers and antiseptic ointment. Be sure to carry all of these hunting dog medical supplies with you during your hunt just in case of any emergency.

Reasons to celebrate SASKATCHEWAN

Participation in youth sports has steadily been on the rise for the past twenty years. Millions of children across the country take part in one or more youth sports throughout the year. It is not uncommon for children to start participating in youth sports as early as four to five years of age.

Based on this information and based on the amount of time that children spend participating in youth sports, it is critically important that they are provided with an experience that offers them many benefits. This responsibility falls on the shoulders of the coaches and parents that often volunteer their time to work with these young athletes.

When an athlete participates in a sport, they will experience many benefits. Some of these will be short-term and easily recognized. While others will not be as easy to recognize, but will last with the athlete much longer and will help shape their overall development.

The ten benefits below are most commonly associated with youth sports participation. It is

important to note that in order for these benefits to be recognized and appreciated by the athlete, they must be included and emphasized in all practice and game plans.

By participating in youth sports, the young athlete will:

1. Develop and become proficient at the various sports skills.

2. Develop skills needed to socialize with their peers as well as adults.

3. Develop independence and confidence.

4. Develop a sense of achievement, which helps develop a positive self-image.

5. Develop leadership skills and qualities.

6. Learn how to cooperate and compete.

7. Develop agility, coordination, endurance, flexibility, speed and strength.

8. Develop the ability to make decisions and accept responsibilities.

9. Learn to understand and express emotions, imagination, and appreciation for what the body can do.

10. Develop and interest in continuing sports participation as an adult.

les Allergy myths

dispelled

(NC)—Think you know everything about seasonal allergies? Here are some popular myths - debunked. Myth: Allergy season is over in the fall— it’s likely just a cold.Fact: Just because the weather is turning cooler doesn’t mean allergy season is over. Seasonal allergies can cause just as much misery for allergy sufferers in the fall as they do in the spring, and a newly introduced allergen can trigger an allergic reaction in an adult that can often be confused with a cold. Seasonal allergy symptoms occur all at once, while cold symptoms appear one at a time. Another important difference is that colds tend to last up to seven days, while allergic reactions will remain until the allergen is removed. Myth: Taking one brand of allergy medicine will build toleranceFact: There is no reason to change allergy medication if you have found one that works. You cannot build up a tolerance to antihistamines like Reactine, which is

proven effective in relieving both indoor and outdoor allergy symptoms. Myth: I can’t be allergic to ragweed – it doesn’t grow anywhere near where I live.Fact: Ragweed is the biggest allergy trigger during the fall, and even if it doesn’t grow where you live, you can still be affected. That’s because ragweed pollen can travel for hundreds of kilometres in the wind, so it’s hard to avoid. If you’re allergic to spring pollen-producing plants, chances are you’re allergic to ragweed, too. Myth: Allergies are annoying but are generally harmless to your health.Fact: If left untreated, allergies can disrupt sleep, learning, and possibly result in chronic respiratory problems like asthma or sinusitis. Non-drowsy antihistamines can be very effective. In fact some, like Reactine, relieve allergy symptoms for a full 24 hours.

When you are trying to be good at baseball or softball, you may want to try to get your hitting down pack. Hitting is all about the timing so you must have the proper instructions when it comes to learning to hit. You should have the proper timing when to swing and when to shift your weight. You can learn this by having practice with a pitching machine.

You may want to also watch the pitchers arm and the release of the ball. There are many different styles of pitching machines to help you do this. An arm style-pitching machine is the only type of machine that will give you the same sense of timing. With each one of these pitches you will see the machine’s arm wind up and release the ball. It is the realistic sense of the machine that allows you to practice the same facts in the batting cages as you can on the baseball field.

Many batting cages have these pitching machines that will help with specific procedures when it comes to batting. When you are serious about learning to bat and be good at it, you should start on the pitching machines as soon as possible. You will learn how to bat and even how to pitch at the same time. You will be able to take notice of the machines and learn as you go.

There are many different models of pitching machines. When you are looking to find the right one for you, you should make sure that you do your research. Figure out the areas you need to improve so that you can get the machine that will work best for these situations. Many of the machines

will allow you time to adjust to them so that you can get the proper feel and begin the pitching process.

There are machines for all ages too. You can find the right machines to help with fast pitch, slow pitch, and even tee ball. These pitching machines can help with all aspects of the sport. No matter what the age of the person or the type of pitching that you are trying to improve on. No matter what style you are trying to do.

When you find the right pitching machine, you should try to spend as much time on it as possible. The more that you work at it, the better you will become. It is a game about practice and skill and you need to work hard at it. When you have spare time, use it wisely and take advantage of the pitching machines in your area.

Running is a simple exercise everyone can do. No need to buy equipments, no need to join any gym classes. Just have a strong will and extra time. And, a pair of shoes!

Some people don’t really care about the kind of shoes they use for jogging. They sometimes use tennis shoes, basket shoes, or any other shoes perfect for any other sports other than running.

This is not a wise thing to do.

Why would those experts design a certain type of shoes for a certain type of exercise/sport? It’s because they have done a research covering almost all aspects, such as comfort and health.

So, it is best to put on a pair of running shoes for jogging.

Running shoes are specially made to protect the foot from the stresses of running. Running shoes usually have slight heel elevation to reduce stress on the achilles tendon. They also have a larger toe box, more shock absorption, and better pronation control than tennis shoes. Moreover, they have additional emphasis on cushioning.

By using running shoes, you can avoid yourself from injury.

And, it is better to have two pairs of shoes instead of one. That way, in wet weather you will have a dry pair waiting.

If you plan to buy a pair of running shoes, do it at the end of the day. By that time, your feet are a bit puffy. This is necessary because normally, running cause your feet to expand.

Also, try those shoes on both your feet. Feel them. Check out if they are comfortable enough.

Get a pair with a good quality. Remember, those shoes will be the only thing between you and the asphalt road. So, spending a little more money is worth it.

The best time to replace your old running shoes is after about 350-400 miles or after one whole year of use. This calculation works only if you use the shoes simply for running not for other activities. Or, other sign to buy a new pair is when you feel uncomfortable wearing them. Not replacing worn shoes might cause injuries.

So, it’s better to pay attention to your shoes for a maximum result of your exercise.

The Gulf Stream off the Atlantic seaboard of the United States flows at a rate nearly 300 times faster than the typical flow of the Amazon river, the world's largest river

The worlds oceans contain nearly 20 million tons of gold

The color blue is least absorbed by seawater; the same shade of blue is most absorbed by microscopic plants, called phytoplankton, drifting in seawater

A new form of life, based on chemical energy rather than light energy, resides in deep-sea hydrothermal vents along mid-ocean ridges

A swallow of seawater may contain millions of bacterial cells, hundreds of thousands of phytoplankton and tens of thousands of zooplankton

The blue whale, the largest animal on our planet ever (exceeding the size of the greatest dinosaurs) still lives in the ocean; it's heart is the size of a Volkswagen

The gray whale migrates more than 10,000 miles each year, the longest migration of any mammal

An avid fisherman is typically able to tell you the contents of his tackle box: fishing hooks, line in various weights, shiny and dull fishing lures, colorful bobbers, an extra reel, needle nose pliers, a flashlight, maybe some fishing scissors and a fishing knife. Each of these tackle box items is an important element in both successful and not so successful fishing trips to the river. Having the right kind of gear, the kind that will withstand a variety of elements, is key.

The following are some tips on what to look for when purchasing a durable fishing or fillet knife to all those would-be and experienced anglers out there.

When choosing a fishing knife, the size of the fish being lured needs to be considered. A ten inch blade would be excessive if you typically fish stocked rainbow trout or crappie in your local river. The larger blade could damage the meat of smaller fish during cleaning if you are not careful. On the other hand, a small fillet knife on a medium-to-large catfish or grouper would be time con-suming and potentially impossible. If you fish a variety of species, consider owning multiple knives in various lengths and widths. There are a number of fishing knife sets with multiple blade styles available on the market. If you have one knife that you really like, maybe it has a handle style that suits you, see if the manufacturer makes other size knives in the same style.

The next item to consider when choosing a fillet or fishing knife, is the quality of the blade. You want to look for stainless steel blades that can maintain their sharpness. You also want to try to buy one that can be sharpened easily throughout a fishing season. Stainless steel is recommended because of its stronger resistance to rust; fishing knives encounter a lot of water. You will want the same durability and strength in your fishing knife as you would a hunting knife. However, with a fillet knife, a tempered blade that can cut smoothly and thinly is ideal. When purchasing a fillet knife, look for one that is serrated in a portion of the knife, toward the handle is best. Having the serration in addition to the smooth sharp blade will be helpful to cut through tougher sections and bones and will keep you from needing a second serrated knife.

The final items to consider are all about your personal style. There are a number of knives available depending on the type of fisherman you or the recipient of the knife is. Consider how frequently you use a fishing knife during your fishing trips. If you

tend to constantly be reaching for yours, purchase a folded knife that can be put in your pocket or hang from a fishing vest so it will be easy to get to. If you have a messier tackle box with little organization, consider purchasing a fishing knife that comes with a sturdy knife sleeve or one that folds to avoid accidentally cutting yourself or damaging the blade while it is moving around in the box. If you have arthritis or carpel tunnel syndrome, try out various knife handle shapes to find one that is comfortable for you. There are a number of knife options available; don’t settle for anything other than what will best help you as you fish this summer.

Consider these tips as you put together your tackle box and gear this summer. Whether you are heading to the river, lake or ocean, a quality fishing or fillet knife is an important addition and just may help bring in the record breaking fish.

What were the last jokes that made you roll around on the floor because you were laughing so hard? Did it involve a doctor, a priest, and a lawyer? Was it on a TV show, or part of a stand-up comedy routine, or part of a recent lecture? In any event, do you remember how it made you feel?

More likely than not you can remember the last time, and if you took a minute you could probably tell me the jokes, and it probably made your day. It either gave you relief from the stress of taking your self or what you were doing so seriously, or it took your mind off of something that was causing you grief, or it just livened up an otherwise boring talk. Probably most importantly though, it allowed you to laugh which as we all know is “the world’s best medicine.”

But have you ever thought more about why this was so? Is there actually something about jokes and the resulting laughter that can change our health in a beneficial way? What is it about laughter that we love so much? Why are comedies so popular? Why is there such a thing as comic relief and why is it so effective--even in the most serious of plays or dramas? Well you shouldn’t be surprised to find out that scientists have been studying it but you may be surprised to find out that there is actually something about laughter that affects us more profoundly than we think.

Basically there is good evidence now that laughter produced by jokes can change the chemical milieu that courses through our body on a

second to second basis, and in profound degree. Laughter releases natural endorphins that act on the same receptors as morphine that produce the feelings of relaxation and heightened mood. Levels of Dopamine, serotonin, and Nor- epinephrine are altered as well that produce endogenous anti- depressant effect.

Researchers then wondered about what action in particular was pro-ducing these changes--was it smiling, or the physical changes that take place in rate of breathing, in blood pressure, increased heart rate, etc. What they found was (as usual) that it most likely was a combination of physical changes in the body that occur with laughter. Each one of these changes by it self produced small effects but together were synergistic in producing these stress relieving, and mood improving results. It was interesting to note that spontaneous laughter was better than self produced laughs but not by as large a difference than you might think. Also merely smiling produced signifi-cant changes in the blood chemistry. So basically tell someone jokes, smile more, and laugh even if you have to fake it--it does the body good!
