This document describes the Sentinels POD Service Glossary of Terms. It list the definitions and acronyms used in the GMES POD related documentation.

This document is a deliverable by GMV in the frame of the Provision of the Precise Orbit Determination Service for the Sentinel missions project.

Calibration Process of quantitatively defining the system responses to known, controlled, signal inputs

Validation Process of assessing, by independent means, the quality of the data products derived from the system outputs

Orbit accuracy Quality of an orbital product. It is established as the difference with respect to a known

reference. It can be measured with various metrics depending on the specific application.The definition of orbital accuracy is well-established in the POD field/community as follows:

Where the summation in i represents the summation over the time window under analysis for N points in time, and ri, ai and ci are the radial, along-track (transverse) and cross-track differences between the orbit product and the

reference at time ti.

Anomaly Any deviation from the expected situation [ECSS-S-ST-00-01C]

For the purpose of this project, an anomaly is an unexpected behavious of the system (including hardwar, software and operators) or a mistake in an operational document.

Anomaly report A report containing information relevant to an anomaly

Anomaly review board The entity responsible for the handling and close-out of anomaly reports
