1 Dear Members, The TSC had a busy Winter, 2016 schedule, with 71 courses, taken by 369 of our approximately 450 members, and accounting for 1113 registrations in all. As you will see elsewhere in this newsletter, we are at last count gearing up to offer another 71 courses during the Spring, 2017 term, as well as an additional one to be presented in mid- September, just before the beginning of the Fall term. Thanks to the work of our regional committee members, the offerings are once again a wonderful mixture of old favourites and intriguing new courses, well balanced within each region as to the various types and lengths of courses that we try to offer. We hope that you find a number of Spring, 2017 courses of interest, in one or more of the regions. Recently, I have made presentations concerning the TSC and its work to southeastern New Brunswick federal government retirees and, along with Board member Wayne Harrigan, to a seniorsgroup in Moncton. Plans are underway to make contact with municipalities and seniorsgroups in the greater Amherst, N.S. area as well, to spread the word about the TSC and the benefits it provides to its members, to many communities, and to various inter -community and cross-border collaborative efforts. I might also mention that the TSC Communications Committee is currently working on improving the appearance and streamlining the ease of use of our website. The TSC Nominating Committee is about to begin its work, and will be seeking to identify candidates for Board positions from several of our regions, the terms beginning next September. If you were interested in serving on the Board, or if you wanted to suggest someone else who might consider offering, please let the TSC Coordinator know and she will arrange for the chair of the committee to contact you or that individual. Please also pass along any suggestions for courses or questions about the workings of the College that you might have to a member of your own regional committee, a Board member, the Coordinator, or myself. As always, you can also drop a note into the suggestion box which you will find near the exit for each of the upcoming registration sessions. I look forward to the launch of the Spring season with lively registration sessions in Sackville, Amherst, Codiac, and Shediac. Berkeley Fleming, President, TSC . Dear Members,

The TSC had a busy Winter, 2016 schedule, with 71 courses, taken by 369 of our approximately 450 members, and accounting for 1113 registrations in all. As you will see elsewhere in this newsletter, we are at last count gearing up to offer another 71 courses during the Spring, 2017 term, as well as an additional one to be presented in mid-September, just before the beginning of the Fall term.

Recently, I have made presentations concerning the TSC and its work to southeastern New Brunswick federal government retirees and, along with Board member Wayne Harrigan, to a seniors’ group in Moncton. Plans are underway to make contact with municipalities and seniors’ groups in the greater Amherst, N.S. area as well, to spread the word about the TSC and the benefits it provides to its members, to many communities, and to various inter-community and cross-border collaborative efforts.

Harold Popma: A Multi-facetted Volunteer

Harold Popma worked as a family physician in Sackville for 33 years, helping with the delivery of countless babies and easing a number of seniors through their final years. He closed his office in 2010 but continued to see his pa-tients at the Drew Nursing Home for several years and still assists with surgeries at the Sackville Hospital on average 4 days per month. An avid supporter of the Seniors’ College, Harold has taught in 18 courses over 9 years. There were the courses one might expect a retired physician to teach – “The Body”, “Current Health Issues”, and “Men’s Health” but Harold has also taught “Badminton” in 7 terms and been part of a “Gardening” course 5 times. It is a rare thing to hear “No” from Harold. He gives generously of his time and is always happy to share his love of badminton,

gardening, and life!

Cancellation Policy—Reminder

If you are in doubt whether a class will be running or

not please visit the TSC website

www.tantramarsenioscollege.ca and follow the home

page links provided to local School authorities . They

provide any school closures by 6am that day.

If you are attending a class in another location and bad

weather is forecast please check that the class is run-

ning before setting out. As happened in the recent

storms, one location was unable to offer their classes as

schools were still closed while in other areas of the

province they were open.

Despite our best laid plans Mother Nature still catches

us out!

***************************************

Please note that the week after registration is incredi-bly busy, and the priority has to be to ensure that courses starting the following week are ready .

Waitlisted members who are assigned a place in a class will be contacted via email as soon as possible follow-ing registration.

For scheduling reasons, Dr. Campbell is unable to

participate in the TSC Environment Impact course

offered in Shediac, but anyone interested in the

topic would be welcome to attend the symposium

being held at Mount Allison.
