Seniors and Exercise: How to Get Started Exercise is a vital part of well-being and a key to living a long and healthy life. It’s an essential part of maintaining our overall health, helping us to have higher energy and a healthy bone mass and body weight; it can even help manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Regular exercise can also lower the risk of muscles and bones becoming weaker and more prone to injury as we age. In fact, the American College of Sports Medicine and American Heart Association recommends exercise most days of the week, even for seniors. To make exercise easier and more accessible for our residents, Oakmont regularly offers fitness classes as part of our daily activity schedule. We encourage our residents to take charge of their health and well-being by exercising in a safe and meaningful way that creates enjoyment, whether it’s with chair yoga, an aerobics class or a relaxing walk. By maintaining an active lifestyle, you can help yourself, a friend or loved one live a long, independent, and healthy life. TransportationOakmont of Chino Hills introduces you to resident, Sue. She is a true local, and sweet as pie. She was born and raised in Whittier, then moved to Hacienda Heights with her husband, she moved to Chino Hills when she moved into Oakmont. She

was an avid traveler before she got married, spending three months in Europe in her early twenties where she sat front-row center at a Paris fashion show. She was married for almost 34 years, and Sue says that although she lost him early to cancer, she smiles because, “Once you’ve had the best, you don’t need the rest!” She traveled to Africa, Thailand and Russia, all at the request of her late husband. Sue was a teacher before having her two children and went back when her youngest was in junior high. Sue is adored by everyone who knows her, and it’s not hard to see why!
