College/Scholarship Application ProcessThings you may need:

+ Transcript+ Transcripts need to be requested for all college applications and some scholarships+ Transcripts can be requested online (SendEDU/Common App) or in the main counseling

office

+ Make sure you give us at least a week to process your request

+ Letter of Recommendation+ Complete Personal Data Form

+ All recommenders need this when you ask for a letter of recommendation+ Allow teacher/counselor at least 2 weeks to write the letter

+ The more information we have about you, the better the letter will be!

Like everything in life, there are always some people who may be trying to take advantage. If a

school seems sketchy to you, it probably is. You can confirm sketchiness by looking up reviews

or find Ms Curles and she can help.

FAFSA and Scholarships

FAFSA: For people who are documented in the US. https://fafsa.ed.gov/

To complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you will need:

• Your Social Security Number

• Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)

• Your federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: You

may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data

Retrieval Tool.)

• Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)

• Records of untaxed income (if applicable)

• An FSA ID to sign electronically.

And parent’s of these too if you’re a dependent

People who aren’t yet documented can fill out the WASFA for Washington State Schools

For undocumented parents, the FAFSA is for you - just fill in their

SSN with 0s

Why Should I Volunteer?Volunteering is an amazing way to give back to your community and you often learn something new about yourself in the process.

- Was there someone who helped you get where you are? What if you volunteered in someway that helped them?

- Is there a type of job you want in the future? Why don’t you volunteer there?- Is there something you love that you would like to pursue more? Volunteer!- You can list it on your resume and in your scholarship applications- You need 40 community service hours to graduate and the most

competitive college applicants often have more

Community Service- It’s a broad word: Unpaid work that you do to help someone.- Demonstrates that you’re becoming a contributing and responsible human

WE ALL NEED HELP.

There are opportunities for community service, almost everywhere. Your neighborhood, an elderly neighbor, agencies around town, a former school, etc. Just mark it down on your sheet and get their signature, and it counts*.

What doesn’t count? Helping family. Doing chores for people related by blood or by marriage. Keep doing helping your family, but that doesn’t go toward graduation requirements.

*For Wahi’s purposes, you can count any community service starting the summer before 9th grade

More Community Service- To graduate Wa-Hi, you need 40 hours of community service. - Hours must be voluntary, non-paid, or non-court ordered activities without

receiving compensation- After you reach 40 hours, keep logging! It’s good for your resume and

applications. - Do service with your friends (if you want) - it makes it even more fun!- There are lots of cool agencies to work with! Find them on the next page, at
