Building an Entertainment Center

Why?

• I chose this topic because I love working with my hands, it looked fun, and it could be a career choice for me later on.

My Facilitator

• Travis Smithwick

• He is an old family friend, and he owns his own business.

• Travis helped me through the entire project.

I started off having to cut the plywood out and sand the side I wanted for the top.

After I cut out the wood for the frame, I had to glue and screw the pieces together.

• When you have the frame built, you must putty all the holes and cracks.

• You have to sand where the putty was applied.

• Building the drawers.

• Adding the bottom to the drawers.

• Adding the finish to the drawers.

• Staining the cabinet.

• Staining the cabinet.

• After staining, you have to wait for it to dry so you can spray the finish on it.

Research

• I did my research paper on the history on cabinets.

• I wanted to know when they started and how they came up with the idea.

Challenges

• I dislocated my shoulder and could not work for 2 weeks.

• Trying to find time when Travis was not busy.

• Cutting the wrong sizes.
