As another summer is upon us, take some

time to reflect on all those friends in your

life that have helped you become who you

are. Life is too short. Make a commitment

to yourself to spend more time on those

who are in your inner circle and less time

on the meaningless people who try to

bring you down. You can never get back

that time you waste worrying about the

intent of those who are not your friends.

Expect the best and ,

Don’t Stop Believing!

Stan Jones

Associate Head Basketball Coach

His love for you is tops when you’re at the bot-

tom. He looks you up when the rest of the world looks down on you. He lets you step on

his toes to help you get on your feet. He shows you the meaning of friendship - not the mean-

ness of it. He shoots straight with you - not at you. He knows most of your faults and - cares

least.

When you’re wrong he tells it to you - not the rest of the world. He doesn’t complain when

you neglect him - but beefs when you neglect yourself. When you flop he never splits with

you - except what he has. When you achieve success - all he wants of it - is to know it. He

lets you worry him more than his enemies do. He is the best press agent because - he doesn’t have to be paid to boost you.

He works his fingers to the bone to give you a

hand. His friendship is the kind you can’t lose - even when you deserve to. He stands behind

you when you’re taking bows - and beside you when you are taking boos.

The Buckeyes held serve on

their home court last season

beating the Noles in Columbus

and this year’s contest should

be a terrific game as well.

you even more.

Be organized, be very detailed.

Top projects need thorough

attention; you can’t afford to

miss anything - take the time

to cover it completely.

Read, read, and read some

more ; learning is a lifelong

quest.

From George Raveling, former

college basketball coach and

Nike Global Executive

Director

If you say you're going to do

something - do it first class.

Doing things for others is

most important. In the long

run, it will come back to help

Make people feel that they are

a valuable part of what you’re

doing.

Take time to talk to people.

It’s amazing how much of an

impact 2 minutes can make.

Hire the best if you plan to be

the best.

“There are a lot of coaches in the

NBA skilled at execution and funda-

mentals. They draw magnificent

plays… But I’ve always been about

the intuitive connection players

have for one another. That bond

they create is what makes (great)

teams what they are.”

- Phil Jackson

“You can only go so far without

killer competitiveness.”

- Jeff Van Gundy

“I don’t want to hear about the

history of what you’ve done. You

have to give yourself to this team

and you have to trust my system.

Some of it may not fit what you do,

but it’s going to be good for the

team. If we have an agenda-less

team, we have a chance. If we

don’t, we have no chance.”

- Doc Rivers

“At the end of the day to stick in

the NBA you have to do a whole

lot of things pretty well or at least

one thing very well.”

- NBA Western

Conference GM

“The best statement I can make

about a player is that I trust him.”

Be an even better listener than

talker.

Be thoroughly prepared for

meetings and presentations.

If you have to get up at 3 a.m.

to do the job the right way and

the best way, then get up at 3

a.m.

Be on constant lookout for

new trends. Know about them

before anyone else and then

put sustained thought to how

they will affect you and what

you’re doing.

Reid played in 127 career games -

the fifth highest total in school his-

tory.

Was a part of 88 overall wins and

37 wins in the ACC - both the most

by any player in Seminole basketball

history.

He is one of only 4 players in

school history to play on 4 postsea-

son tournament teams (2 NCAA

and 2 NIT appearances).
