SEMANA SANTA O EASTER

What´s the difference?

¿Cuál es la diferencia?

Todos conocemos nuestra Semana…pero sabéis que en otros países, las diferencias son muchas. La tradición, la cultura, etc…..

Here in Spain, everybody Know very well, the diferent kinds of traditions about Semana Santa , but there many diferent celebrations for Jesuschrite´s Passion…

We are going to compare our traditional Semana Santa with Easter in England

Las fechas de celebración son las mismas, y el motivo también es religioso…..

When is Easter?Easter usually comes in the month of April. However, Easter can fall as early as March 22 or as late as April 25.

Nosotros nos vamos a centrar en las diferencias entre las tradiciones gastronómicas y celebración en las calles……

We will focus in two important aspects: gastronomy and celebration in the street…..

GASTRONOMÍA/GASTRONOMY

SPAIN

Torrijas

Flores

Barquillos

Una de las partes más conocidas son los típicos dulces de cada lugar:

ENGLAND

Easter eggsChocolate eggs are given to children. The eggs are either hollow or have a filling, and are usually covered with brightly coloured silver paper.

Easter BiscuitsEaster Biscuits are sometimes called "Cakes", and are eaten on Easter Sunday. They contain spices, currants and sometimes grated lemon rind.

Simnel cake . The Simnel cake is baked for tea, and is a rich fruitcake covered with a thick layer of almond paste (marzipan). A layer of marzipan is also traditionally baked into the middle of the cake. Eleven balls of marzipan are placed around the top to represent the eleven true disciples (excluding Judas).

And now, after of these delicious desserts, we are going to continue with traditional celebrations in the street…..

IN SPAIN…

Most of the people go out to the street to enjoy special events, uniques in our country. The most popular event is the procession.

In this peculiar event, where many people watch figures representing the principal chapters of the Jesuschriste Passion…

People in England enjoy those days travelling aroun their country. In Spain we do the same, but many people celebrate Easter with other popular traditions like….

Morris DancingMorris dancing is a traditional English form of folk dance which is also performed in other English-speaking countries such as the USA and Australia. The roots of morris dancing seem to be very old, probably dating back to the Middle Ages.In the dance men dress up in costumes with hats and ribbons and bells around their ankles. They dance through the streets and one man often carries an inflated pigs bladder on the end of a stick. He will run up to young women in the street and hit them over the head with the pigs bladder, this is supposed to be lucky (men)!

Easter egg hunt….

Although the tradition is to use dyed or painted chicken eggs, a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as jelly beans. These eggs can be hidden for children to find on Easter morning, which may be left by the Easter Bunny. They may also be put in a basket filled with real or artificial straw to resemble a bird's nest.

…and that´s all dear pupils……….
