A drink driver crashed a stolen ute through a hedge and onto the front lawn of a property between Prebbleton and Halswell on Sun-day afternoon.

Police found the 25-year-old about three hours later, walk-ing along Sabys Rd. He recorded a breath-alcohol reading of 747mcg/L.

The man was unlicensed and police say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash which hap-pened on Trices Rd about 3pm.

Senior Constable Mike Harker said the man had been drinking at home before taking the Toyota Hilux about 800m from the crash site and crashing it while going too fast around a corner.

He was arrested and charged with unlawfully taking a mo-tor vehicle, driving with excess breath-alcohol, careless driving and driving while forbidden.

Senior Constable Harker said the

car was taken from a haulage yard. The owner of the property leased part of his property to another busi-ness and the alleged offender was employed by this business.

The property owner was out at the time of the crash but it was reported by another motorist who saw the ute on the front lawn.

The owner later returned to the property and was in the process of attending to his damaged hedge when he noticed a suspicious man walking up the bank on the other side of the road.

He followed the man in his car and phoned police.

Senior Constable Harker said the alleged offender had, since 2006, been forbidden to drive until such time as he obtained a licence. In this time he did not get a licence and had been stopped by police several times.

He was not injured in the crash and will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Friday.

Selwyn residents may find themselves paying a little bit more for using a number of community facilities starting from next year.

Fees will increase for using the Lincoln Event Centre, Sel-wyn Aquatic Centre, Rolleston Community Centre and all four of the district council libraries from January 1.

The biggest increases will be for the Lincoln Event Centre, where the public will find them-selves paying between $1 and $12 more per hour, depending on the time and which part of the building they wish to book. District council and community groups will pay up to $15 more per hour and corporate users up to $18 more.

Full day bookings of the event centre will increase from the current $1600 for all users to $1900 for residents, $2200 for district council and community groups, and to $2500 for corpo-rate users.

A district council report on the increases, for all of the facilities, to last weeks meeting cited increasing costs for all

facilities, including electricity, staff costs, pool chemicals, and maintenance.

Other services where fees are increasing include room hire at Rolleston Community Centre; pool entry and swim lessons at Selwyn Aquatic Centre; as well as borrowing fees, membership and subscription, and overdue charges at Selwyn Libraries.

A new supermarket in West Melton and a retail centre in Rolleston are the latest develop-ments proposed for Selwyns booming population centres.

Gillman Wheelans has applied for resource consent for a new supermarket and commercial centre, on the corner of Iris Tay-

lor Ave and State Highway 73.It comes after news earlier this

year that plans for a Progressive Enterprises supermarket at another yet-to-be developed shopping cen-tre in the area had been canned.

Rolleston Retail and Eldamos Investments have applied for re-source consent for a retail centre on Masefield Drive.

Hamish Wheelans declined to comment on plans for the super-market and commercial centre on the grounds that he still was wait-ing for key details to be finalised.

He said he had an understand-ing with a supermarket chain but would not state which as the agreement was not formalised.

He hoped to be in a position to provide more details within the

Bathurst said the application was currently on hold while they tidied up some details relating to the retail centre.

Its a bit big and complex and some of it is subject to confiden-tiality at the moment but it will be announced in due course, Mr Bathurst said.

New retail on the way for Selwyn IN BRIEFMens ShedThe Rolleston Mens Shed is re-questing a grant of almost $2000 to help cover the consents it needs to build a meeting room, kitchen and toilets at Foster Recreation Park. An application has been made to the Selwyn Central Com-munity Board Discretionary Fund asking for $1517 for a recreational building consent and $360 for a resource consent. The total cost of the project, including consents, is $40,973.19. The trust which runs the Mens Shed has raised $36,025.72.

Rapid numbersThe district council is reminding all rural property owners to check they have a rapid number displayed at their driveway entrance. Having a rapid number helps emergency services find their way to the property. They are also used by couriers. With sum-mer being a high-risk season for fires in Selwyns rural areas, the district council is also advising residents to ensure their drive-ways are wide enough to allow emergency vehicles to get in and out.

The legacy of a Taumutu man who served at Gallipoli will live on thanks to his descendants who have turned his war diary into a play and a book.

Hohepa Teihoka, also known as Joseph, was with the Maori Pio-neer Battalion in World War 1.

His war diary gives a some-times harrowing account of the Gallipoli campaign from leaving New Zealand in February 1915, up until two weeks before he and other troops were evacuated from the peninsula in December of that year.

The play, Hell and Bullets, is being directed by his great grand-daughter Cindy Diver. It will be performed as part of Ngai Tahus annual Hui-a-Iwi cel-ebration at the Dunedin Town Hall on November 21.

The title comes from a quote in the diary which Mr Teihoka wrote about his experience at Chunuk Bair in August, 1915.

Talk about wounded and dead, it was simply hell and bullets flying all roads, he wrote.

A book, also titled Hell and

Bullets, is being edited by another great granddaughter, Marolyn Diver, and written by her husband David who is curator of history at the Southland Museum.

The book will be an in-depth look at the Gallipoli campaign, comparing the official military accounts with those in Mr Tei-hokas diary to explore various aspects of the conflict.

Mr Teihokas grandson, Lin-coln resident Raymond Junior Young, said he thought the play and book were going to be bril-liant.

The text of the diary was an important piece of

family history for him and the other grandchil-

dren who had never met Mr Teihoka.

When I first got a

copy I was up in the middle of the night reading it to the end, he said.

I wouldnt have liked to be there. What they went through must have been hell.

Ms Diver said the idea to perform a play had come to her while she was co-directing another performance last year, based around the 100th anniversary of the first New Zealand troops leaving for World War 1.

The play would be mostly talk-ing, rather than physical acting, and was about staying true to the words Ms Diver said.

What he wrote in the diary is quite amazing and underplayed and he talked about things like Chunuk Bair with a real honesty to him, so as a director I dont want to muck with that and try and make him sound more af-fected than he was.

The diary was passed down to Mr Teihokas daughter Ila when she was just a child, after he died in 1934. However, it was forgotten and only rediscovered when she moved house from

Lincoln to Clyde in about 1990.

Marolyns mother, made copies of

the diary and distributed them

to family members.

then took a copy to the Hocken Library in Dunedin while she was study-ing at the University of Otago.

Frances will have a speak-ing role in the play. She was not looking forward to getting up

on stage but felt it was worth doing because of the impor-

tance of the diary to her family.

She had been reading the diary a lot recently in preparation for her role.

It was quite emotional, really, just thinking that he was going through all that.

After his evacuation from Gallipoli, Mr Teihoka spent two months in convalescence, suffer-ing from paratyphoid.

His family were initially told he was dead, only to be informed that he was still alive after a memorial service had been held. He was discharged from the army on May 10, 1916 and died, aged 47, in 1934. He is buried in the cemetery at Taumutu.

camp, struck camp in the forenoon. Packed up tents and cleaned up the grounds. Light lunch 12.15pm. Assembled at 1.15pm. Marched to the railway station entrained for Mt Eden, marched into Auckland right on to the wharf, got sea bags, roll called and then marched onto the boat, [Wirrimoo] quite a crowd on the wharf to see boat leave, boat left 5.30pm, weather lovely.

July 3Arrived at the Dardanelles in

the morning, 3pm at Anzac, Sari Bair. Landed Saturday morn-ing 3.30am, marched about two miles from the landing to no.1 post, slept out in the open, had a shower about 4.20am. All day Saturday making dug out trench-es, firing all day, shells whizzing all day over head.

July 14As usual sapping in the af-

ternoon, first time had mules to carry water up to camp. Went for swim, snipers made bathing very uncomfortable, bullets landing very close to some of the chaps.

Trenches very quiet all day, no.3 platoon in the trenches tonight, one private shot going

towards the beach.

July 18Had church about 9.30am,

went with Corporal Tahiwi to depot for N.Z.N.C mail. Received two letters from home, one from moko and other from John Puck. No. 4 platoon will be in the firing trenches tonight.

Arrived in the trenches about 6.30pm, awful smell about the trenches, coming from dead bod-ies lying outside of the trenches. About 1 or 2am, somebody

passed word down the trenches that the Turks were advancing to-wards our trenches, but it turned out to be only a rumour.

August 7Hell of a time last night, made

the advance supports to the Wel-lington Mounted, left the no. 2 post about 10pm. Advanced up the gully, my god it was hot work advancing under a hail of bul-lets, queer sensation, under fire, advanced for about a mile, got the order to charge the trenches.

Charged them and took them too. Stayed in the trenches until day break. Was war ships and field artillery, bombarding all the time, awful sight this morning, dead lying all roads.

N.Z. still advancing, rifle firing was awful, everybody was mixed up with A and B companies by this morning. Advanced about two and a half miles into the Turks territo-ries on the left flank, do believe will be in the trenches all day.

Not safe to put ones head above the parapets for fear of getting a bullet through it. Advanced on to flat top this morning, there was some narrow squeaks. Made dug outs and had a rest. List of casualties from no. 4, W. Manihera believed dead, P. Ropata dead, J Harding wounded, H. Peper, R. Nopera, J. Arthur, W Thompson believed dead from wounds. Came down from flat top hill into a bit of a gully and rejoins the rest of our company and rested there all day and part of the night. While there, a few of our chaps were picked off by stray bullets.

August 23Was on out post on Maori

Ridge last night but there was nothing much doing, the officers in charge caught a few of them

asleep on their post, gave them fair warning this morning, if they were caught again, will be court marshalled and likely shot. Reported today that S. Karatai of no.4 platoon was killed at the fir-ing line while they were up there. Whole two letters home today one of the mater and the other to W. Barrett, Tuahiwi.

September 30Was in the firing trenches

last night, nothing doing at the Apex, but there was something doing at Walkers Ridge as they were doing a lot of shooting up at the Apex. Somebody was trying to use the bomb mortars, but they only managed to drop a few bombs on our own parapets. Great bombardment going on down at the cape, it was just one continuous rumble. The warships and the battery was doing a bit at the Apex. Was relieved out of the firing trenches at 5.30.

November 22A cold miserable day. Got

orders last night to sleep with boots and putties on. Rumoured that the Germans had reinforced the Turkish lines, so expected an attack at any moment, otherwise things are very quiet up at the trenches at present.

The people of Te Taumutu Runanga trace their ancestry back to the Ngati Kuri chief Te Ruahikihiki, who settled in the area in the 17th century, and his son Moki.

When the Ngati Kuri moved south from Kaikoura, Te Ruahikihiki claimed Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere for his people.

Reports of the rich food resources to be found there had reached the chiefs living in Kaikoura.

Te Ruahikihikis pa, Orariki, stood on the site of the present day Hone Wetere Church and cemetery.

Moki established his p site nearby at Taumutu (right), on the site where the present Ngti Moki marae is located, near the south-western edge of Te Waihora.

In 1891, a wharenui (meeting hall) named Moki was opened on the site of the original historic P o Moki. It has since undergone many alterations and additions and is now known as Ngti Moki.

The remains of the historic pas ramparts can still be seen in the form of grass-covered mounds running parallel to Pohau Rd.

So youre originally from India. When did you come over to New Zealand and what brought you here?

I came over in September 2010 for study.

Did you arrive before or after the September 2010 earthquake?

After. I came on September 26.What did you think about com-

ing to a place which had just had a big earthquake?

I thought it might be hard to get a job here and study. I started my study in hospitality and business management at Avonmore [Ter-tiary Institute] on November 2.

Were the earthquakes scary for you?

Yeah, they were a bit of a worry. I had never felt an earthquake in India and then of course we got the February 22 one.

Where were you when that one hit, and what did you think?

I was in the Avonmore building, just across the road from the Hotel Grand Chancellor, on the seventh floor with some other people in the canteen.

I thought that was going to be my end because I could see the building in front of me just col-lapse. When it stopped we just ran away.

After that I lived in a city council shelter in New Brighton for about three days.

You decided to stick it out in Christchurch in spite of all this?

I thought for a while I wanted to move to Auckland because my flatmate said he would be mov-ing to Auckland but then I said to myself an earthquake could happen anywhere and if its going to happen, its going to happen, and I decided I wanted to stay in Christchurch.

Where have you been working between arriving in Christchurch and the move to Southbridge?

I used to work at Robbies on Cranford St for the last few years, building up experience. Before that I was working at the Blenheim Rd Tavern for a year.

What lead you to buy the Southbridge Hotel?

I never worked in a country pub.

I had been working for the last three months as a general man-ager for Robbies. The Southbridge Hotel came under liquidation and the liquidator told me there is a pub for sale and you might want to buy it. I had never been to Southbridge but I came here and had a look and I thought it would be a nice wee opportunity. There is heaps of potential here with no

pub in Leeston at the moment. Im thinking I might open a restaurant here as part of the pub.

What sort of restaurant?We will serve things like steak

and fish and chips, continental food. We will have bar snacks go-ing all day and do breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Are you planning to make any other changes to the place?

There will be a loyalty card, we will be doing some specials on the meals and we are also going to be doing specials for Gold Card holders.

Youre only 27 and you already own a pub. What are your plans for the future? Do you want to own more pubs or other busi-nesses?

Youve only been at the ho-tel for a short time but are you getting to know all the locals already?

Yeah, the people are pretty help-ful here, they really look after you.

What part of India did you come from?

I come from a wee town called Paonta Sahib in northern India.

How many people live there?Probably 200,000 people.Was it much of an adjustment

moving to New Zealand?There is a big difference. When I

first got here it was really hard for me. Avonmore was supposed to have me picked up from the air-port but no one turned up - prob-ably something to do with daylight savings. I was waiting for them but no one came so I had to make my own way so I just jumped into the bus but its really hard when you dont know the language. I lived in a backpackers for one day and then went to Avonmore.

One of the images people who havent been to India have of the country is of it being very crowded, whereas New Zealand is probably one of the worlds more underpopulated countries. Is that

something you liked about com-ing here?

Yeah. India is getting pretty de-veloped - I go back once a year and each time it has already changed so much.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Playing cricket, talking to new people, and riding my Royal En-

field motor-cycle.What cricket club do you play

for?Halswell.Which countrys cricket team

would you support if they played each other?

I still follow the Indian team but if they play against the Black Caps I always support the Black Caps.

Southbridge resident and former patient Dylan Flatman expressed his gratitude to the Westpac Res-cue Helicopter staff at the launch of the Canterbury Air Rescue Support Crew - a new fundrais-ing initiative.

After a serious accident in Dunsandel last November, Dylan, 12, was taken by the helicopter to Christchurch Hos-pital where he lay for days in an induced coma.

Dylans father Nigel said his

son had since made an amazing recovery.

If the chopper had not been there I dont know what would have happened, he said.

Volunteer manager Cheryle Moreton-Robins said it cost $7m a year to keep the service going, and a huge amount of the money was raised by the community.

The helicoper cost $8625 per hour to run, and made more than 700 flights in Canterbury last year.

Southbridge will celebrate becom-ing the latest Selwyn town to join the 150 club with a number of events this weekend.

The town joins Lincoln, West Melton, Prebbleton and Leeston as settlements which have marked 150th anniversaries within the last few years.

Among the weekends celebra-tions will be a historical display and Still Blue and White ball on Saturday, a street parade and mapped tour of historical points of interest around the town on Sunday, and a Labour Day Sports event on Monday.

Southbridge 150th Committee chairman and district councillor Pat McEvedy said the event was the culmination of 18 months of planning.

The function on Saturday night has been sold out for six to eight

weeks. We put over 300 tickets on the market and they sold within about two weeks, so they are hot property and probably being traded on TradeMe as we speak.

Sports days had long been an

important part of life in South-bridge so the Labour Day event, which would feature both con-ventional sports and agricultural events, was a fitting way to cel-ebrate, he said.

A lot of former residents were expected to be back in town for the weekend including former X Factor contestant Tom Batchelor, who will be performing with his band the River Jesters.

Everybody has asked us if we could have Dan Carter here but unfortunately, or perhaps fortu-nately, he is playing in a [Rugby World Cup] semi-final, Cr McEv-edy said.

The history of Southbridge can be traced back to Homebrook, a grazing run of 10,000 acres taken up by Thomas Rowley in 1853.

In 1862, new owner Charles Joseph Bridge shifted out with his wife and children, using the land for cattle, sheep and cropping.

By 1863, half of Homebrook had been freeholded and by 1865 only 60 acres of the run was left. Mr Bridge had purchased 1500 acres of the best land around the homestead. He later sub-divided part of this for the new town.

It is not known why the name Southbridge was chosen but many believe it commemorates Mr Bridge. The settlement at Bishops Corner was origi-nally named Northbridge so the theories go that Southbridge was subsequently named.

In 1864, he gave 20 acres of land for a church, vicarage, burial ground and glebe. The St James of Ellesmere Church was built that year, financed by the public and a provincial government grant.

Fifty acres were surveyed for the township. On January 25, 1867, the Lyttelton Times advertised sections, stating that there was already a blacksmith, wheelwright and church and that a coach ran daily to Christchurch.

At that time, the blacksmith Alexander Webster employed 1820 hands.

The school opened in 1868 and the first A&P show was held in Southbridge in 1871.

By 1883 the town had grown to include two hotels, two banks, two newspapers, three lodges a town hall and a library. The timber for these buildings mostly came from Little River by raft ac-cess across the lake.

The railway line reached its terminus at Southbridge in 1875.

Southbridge Rugby Club was one of the eight clubs in the Canterbury Rugby Union when it began in 1879. The first All Black from the club was H.H. Lee in 1888. At a later date he was followed by Albert Anderson and currently Daniel Carter.

The fire brigade began when the Southbridge Town Board pur-chased a manual engine in 1890 but it had a somewhat ineffective history until it was revitalised in 1948. A new fire station would later be built in 1957.

The depression in 1880s and 1890s dealt a severe blow to the town. Businesses began to relo-cate to Leeston. The two centres

were too close and transport was improving. The population that had been 668 in 1886 reduced to 396 in 1901.

St James of Ellesmere burned down in 1934 but was replaced by a brick church in 1935 and a hall was added in 1966.

The railway closed in 1962, as did similar branch lines.

New rugby clubrooms and squash courts were built with sig-nificant input of voluntary labour and opened in 1978.

Water supply had been from wells that were mostly only 18 to 26 feet deep. Eventually a reticulated water supply became operational by 1983.

A new $3.1 million sewerage scheme was opened in 2005. Prior to this, septic tanks had done most of the work of effluent disposal.

In the 2013 census, South-bridges population was 861.

The Southbridge Advisory Com-mittee chairman Wayne Palmer, 51, has lived in the town his whole life.

Mr Palmer said some of the most important development he had seen in the town included the building of the local pool complex

and a significant refurbishing of the Southbridge Hall.

There have been a lot of new faces over the last five years since the earthquake, he said.

The good thing about the town-ship is that everyone gets behind everyone.

Young performers will provide entertainment giving them a chance to showcase their amazing talents.

The Creative Kids competiton has four categories this year - Flower Power, Cup Cake Bake and Decorate and a Colouring-in Competition.

The Hororata Domain provides the perfect setting with plenty of shelter from the sun and rain meaning no cancellations.

The Spring Fair is a day where family and friends have an enjoyable day, it is about bringing the community together. With free entry the Spring Fair provides an inexpensive day out for families in a safe and welcoming setting.

Two Selwyn teenagers will try their hand at national politics next year when they represent the district at Youth Parliament.

Selwyn MP Amy Adams has named Tim Marshall, 16, of Broadfield as her youth MP for 2016, while Speaker of the House David Carter, who lives in the Selwyn electorate, has chosen Lexi Sutherland, 16, of Kirwee as the youth speaker of the house.

Tim attends St Thomas of Canterbury College while Lexi is a student at Darfield High School.

They were chosen from among six finalists who each had to give a five-minute presentation on lo-cal and national issues and

then answer a question from each member of the judging panel.

Ms Adams praised all of the finalists for having the courage to put themselves forward and present their opinions to the panel.

I was very impressed with all of the finalists and would have been proud to have any one of them as my representative, she said.

Tim and Lexi will each hold the title of youth MP from January 25 to July 25. They are expected to engage with the youth community in Selwyn during this time so that they can represent them effectively at the Youth Parliament in July.

Earlier this month I teamed up with Speaker of the House David Carter to select two young people to represent Selwyn at Youth Parliament next year.

I was really impressed by all of the finalists and the passion with which they were able to discuss lo-cal and national issues of impor-tance to them.

This reinforced for me how important it is for us to support our young people so that they can thrive and contribute to their community.

This starts early by ensuring children are being immunised and receiving health checks before they start school. Encouragingly, the latest results show 93 per cent of eight-month-olds received their full immunisations and a record 92 per cent of eligible four-year-olds received a free B4 School Check, to identify and address any potential health or developmental problems at an early stage.

On July 1, all children aged un-der 13 became eligible for free GP visits, after-hours services, and free prescriptions.

The uptake of the scheme has been fantastic. Two months after its launch, 98 per cent of general practices across the country of-fer free GP visits, covering 99 per cent of children under 13.

Older childrens health will be boosted by a new plan to improve the National Human Papilloma-virus (HPV) immunisation pro-gramme.

A new performance target of having 75 per cent of eligible girls fully immunised by the end of 2017 will help track improve-ments in immunisation rates.

Improving HPV immunisa-tion coverage will have significant long-term benefits for New Zea-land women, including a reduc-tion in the incidence of HPV in-fections - the cause of 70 per cent of cervical cancers.

More young people are getting faster access to specialist help for alcohol and drug problems so they can live healthy, addiction-free lives.

It is vital that we give children the best start in life and support them throughout their youth to help them grow into healthy adults who are able to contribute to their communities.

Dancers will have a brand new stage to perform on at next months Hororata Highland Games.

There will be nearly 100 dancers competing at the games in more than 30 different categories. These will include three Canterbury-West Coast championships and one South Island championship competition.

A new 70sqm stage is being built at Hororata Domain thanks to funding and volunteer labour from local businesses and charity.

Event manager Cindy Driscoll said organisers were focused on putting on the best Scottish competitions in the country and building the stage was a big step towards this.

For the past four years we have borrowed temporary stages, she said.

While they were of good qual-ity, it is very hard to get them perfectly level and this does affect the dancers. They were also time consuming for volunteers to install.

The new stage will be placed on levelled permanent footings, with the top built in segments so it could be placed on for the event and removed and stored when not in use.

Local builder Mark Moore from Moore Builders Ltd has led the project and designed the stages, while ITM Darfield and Selwyn Sawmills have donated materi-als, Neil Walker Contracting used his machinery to help bore the 60

footing holes and AFI Systems has supported the project with labour and funding. Additional funding has been received from Air Rescue Services Ltd.

Mrs Driscoll said the games would not be possible without the commitment and effort of volun-teers.

Over 200 volunteers work on the event, helping not just on the day but throughout the year. Many are local but there is also a reason-able number who are not.

The Hororata Highland Games is on November 7.

A new kea crossing is operating on Rolleston Drive between Nor-man Kirk Drive and Dryden Ave. The crossing is being controlled by Rolleston School parents with support from the school and the district council. It operates at 8.30-9am and 3-3.20pm on weekdays during school terms. Speed-activated signs have also been installed on Rolleston Drive near the crossing point to let motorists know their speed and encourage them to slow down if they are over the speed limit.

READERS LETTERS Thank you for your invita-

tion (Selwyn Times, October 13) to comment on the decision by the district council to eliminate the Selwyn Central Community Board from being part of the governance of the district.

I think the council got this decision wrong. I did not make a submission on the represen-tation review and I regret not doing so.

Democracy, and an active democracy at that, is precious. And people are the most important aspect of local governance he tangata, he tangata, he tangata. Community governance (governance by the people, for the people) is the way of the future strongly promoted by the United Nations.

I have little doubt that the

elected councillors advocating for the demise of community boards would change sides of the debate very quickly if it was the elimination of the district council in favour of local gov-ernment reorganisation amal-gamating Selwyn, Christchurch and any other local authority that was being considered. Yet it is essentially the same argu-ment. Keep the local in local government.

Local issues should be dealt with at the most immediate (or local) level consistent with their solution the subsidiarity principle!

Governance is about determining how power is exercised, how citizens are given a voice, and how decisions are made on issues of public concern. The well-being

of our society depends on it.I respect the people who have

contrary opinions on this mat-ter but I think they are wrong on this one.

Retain the community board and allocate to it, with appropriate delegated authority, the power to deal with local issues. Give them a chance to be effective. Darryl Griffin, West Melton

Sir, Im not wishing to get into an argument regarding my letter in the October 6 issue of the Selwyn Times, however, I find the response from the chief executive of the district council a little disturbing.

At no time did I suggest houses facing inward with high fences on the boundary but a service road landscaped

between houses facing west and the main Birchs Rd with one or two entrance/exits to and from the main road.

An informed source tells me that it was the district council that insisted on the existing result.

To suggest that cyclists could use the road instead of the costly Rail Trail is laughable, as is the term permeable fencing three strips of 150mm treated and stained timber making the whole area look like a cattle yard.

If the chief executive would care to check, he will notice that any one of the prop-erty owners with a reasonable length car will block the shared pathway while waiting to enter the road if any vehicle hap-pens to be entering or leaving Lincoln. Les Wood, Lincoln
