Overview

SELIGI-A RB-211 COMPRESSOR START-UP OVERVIEW

The Seligi-A Compression module consists of four compression trains, each comprising a three

stage compressor driven by a Rolls Royce RB-211 gas turbine.

The three stages of compression are supported by ancillary equipment such as interstage coolers, knock-out scrubbers, a glycol dehydration system between the second and third stages of compression; and compressor utilities such as lube oil and seal oil systems.

The start-up process for this system is outlined in this work instruction. Details are provided on all start-up steps, from the compressor control room to checks carried out in the field, to ensure a correct and safe start-up is achieved.

Pre-start Checks in Control Room

Breaker Panel• Confirm no

isolations/EPRC’s are still in force.

• Confirm no active work permits and all work has been closed out.

• Verify control system breakers are on.

• Ensure lube oil/seal oil pump breakers are on.

Alarm Annunciation Panel• Ensure all other

required breakers are on.

• Press “Lamp Test” to verify the operation of the alarm annunciation lights on panel.

• If light is on Annunciation Panel, verify alarm and rectify.

• Check for any malfunction or indications.

Compressor Valve Mimic Panel• Check correct

position for all compressor valves on mimic panel — ensure blowdown valves are in correct position.

Permissive & Starting Sequence• Check correct

permissives in place on start-up panel — no bypasses.

Pump Selectors• If G.G. lube oil

pump or seal oil pump is indicating a fault, make sure the correct pump is selected as duty pump and is available.

Engine & Fuel Control Monitoring Panel• Ensure any

engine fuel control system alarms are cleared.

Ensure all local HAND/OFF/AUTO switches are in auto (unless no standby pump is available for lead/lag/back-up operation — local pump switches should then remain in HAND/MANUAL).

oil tank level (synthetic oil).

Blowdown valves• Ensure all manual

block valves at inlet and outlet of compressor are open.

• Ensure discharge gas flow-path exists for when compressor starts — ensure export or gas lift/injection headers are open.

• Confirm blow-down valves are in correct position, depending on blowdown or non-blowdown conditions.

Hydraulic Starter• Check all

enclosure doors and confirm are closed.

• Check status of hydraulic starter tank — check oil level.

• Check hydraulic starter package for any leaks or damaged hosing or fittings, etc.

Fuel Gas Filter• Confirm compressor

bypass/anti-surge valves are open.

• Ensure fuel gas supply to engine is lined up correctly, and fuel gas filter separator level is correct and liquid dump valve operating.

Seal Oil Trap System• Check all lines and fittings for leaks.• Ensure any caps/plugs/fittings used for any work

have been removed and equipment normalized.• Verify seal oil system levels, pressures and

Seal Oil Trap Level• Check seal

oil trap level sightglass (4 of) — if empty, close manual valve downstream of level control valve to build up level — verify operation of controller.

Compressor Casing Drains• Drain off any

liquid present in compressor casings. A series of compressor casing drain valves are located at the non-drive end of the compressor.

Seal Oil Tank• If seal oil tank

is in low level shutdown state, manually run main lube oil auxiliary pump. Confirm pump operation by verifying pressures on the level controller, and check the flow of oil from compressor drains on sight-glasses.

Verification• After all verified,

start a seal oil pump manually, and use a second person to check the levels of the LPC and HPC seal oil overhead tanks. Ensure tank level is maintained at 80% level, and level controller is working properly.

• After LPC and HPC overhead tank levels are verified, switch off seal oil pump and put to auto.

• Switch auxiliary main lube oil pump back to auto.

controllers to auto position.

• Press Start Button.

• Ensure engine/compressor start sequence correct.

• Perform all control room and module checks again when compressor running, until all parameters are stable.
