WHY self-evaluate?• As an organisation, we are constantly changing

and developing, and we always try to improve our performance, year after year.

• Self-evaluation is a process through which we can assess how well we are achieving our goals.

• It helps us identify the things we are good at, as well as the things that need improvement.

• Self-evaluation provides CISV International with ‘hard evidence’ of how each and every one of our almost 200 chapters are performing.

• This allows us to better understand the needs of our volunteers at the grassroots – those who bring CISV Peace Education to their communities.

HOW to self-evaluate?

how

• We have designed a self-evaluation tool, specifically for chapters.

• The RDT committee (Resources Development Training) will collect results from every chapter on an annual basis.

• We encourage that the self-evaluation is done as a group discussion including as many faces from the local chapter as possible: parents, volunteers, board members, JBers, trainers, committee chairs.

• Results will be analysed by RDT, and will serve as a source of information to help: - improve how we train on chapter development - design better training strategies - compose the next Strategic Plan

and now... the very awaited WHAT

what

• The Self-Evaluation Tool for Chapters is based on goals and indicators that the Organisational Development Department (ODD) articulated.

• ODD is a team of people who work with the regions and committees to make CISV grow in a strong and sustainable way.

• The tool takes around 1h 30min to complete.

• The results then have to be uploaded on an online form. This takes no longer than 15 minutes.

B) We understand the benefits and impact of the hospitality point system and fee structure. (K)

D) We are able to deliver programmes within the National Association and Global Hosting Plan. (S,K)

CHAPTER GOAL 3: Host and participate in CISV International Peace Education programmes.

You will have to:- give a score to each indicator- provide evidence

GOAL 1 GOAL 2 GOAL 3 GOAL 4

Once you did this for all 4 goals, try to give each of them its own score as a whole, also from 1 to 6. You will end up with four numbers, one for each goal. Then shade in your scores in the graph.

Page 7: Self-Evaluation Tool for Chapters

Suggested discussion questions:

•How balanced are the goals in your graph? What do you think this means?

•Look at your stronger goal. Think of specific actions or best practices that made you give this goal a high score.

•Look at your weakest goal. What do you think is the cause for this low score? Brainstorm some ideas that might help you improve your performance of this goal.

Best Practices

We invite you to visit our Best Practices database. There, you will be able to browse best practices grouped by goals, and you might want to implement ideas that worked successfully in other chapters. And what would be even better is if you sent us your very own best practices!

Best Practice DatabaseSharing ideas that work!

Page 10: Self-Evaluation Tool for Chapters

WHY share best practice?

• CISVers do a lot of good volunteer work at the Chapter level with surprising outcomes.

• The challenges that one chapter may be facing in Asia may be similar to the challenges of a chapter in Europe – or any other part of the world.

• Sharing our experiences and problem solving ideas can be really helpful to others.

why

Page 11: Self-Evaluation Tool for Chapters

HOW to share?

how

• Think of a success story, advice,or an idea that your chapter could share with the rest of the world. Other chapters could really benefit from your experience.

• Send us your story in any format you want: a video (maximum 2 minutes long), a power point presentation, a text, a picture with a text, a podcast… the possibilities are endless!

• Use this email address to do so: [email protected]

• The RDT committee will review it and contact you before publishing it.

Page 12: Self-Evaluation Tool for Chapters

and now... the very awaited WHAT

what

• As you may have guessed, we are in the process of building a Best Practice Database.

• It will consist of collection of good advice, smart ideas, success stories, funny activities that have successfully worked in your Chapter and you want to share with others.

• You will be able to browse the contents of it by chapter goal / indicator, so that you can work on those things you feel you’re not achieving as well as you could be.

building the database

what

• Check out the examples we already have at:   http://bit.ly/BestPracticeDatabase

• Once the database grows, we will create more advanced ways of browsing, as well as "most seen practices"  and "latest updates” sections.

• Tell at least one fellow CISV member about this!

• This is an exciting project in which we all can participate and improve together.
