YOUR VOWSSELECTING VOWS FOR YOUR VOW RENEWAL AFTER MANY YEARS TOGETHER

SELECTING

Renewing your wedding vows? Congratulations! Since you may have chosen a vow renewal for a variety of reasons, there are a wide variety of words you can say. Many people write their own vows, emphasizing the reasons that they have chosen to "do it all over again." Others prefer to select something prewritten that expresses how they feel. In this ebook, you will find a variety of sample vows perfect for use as they are or to use as a source of inspiration for writing your own. Feel free to mix and/or adapt until you have something that is perfect for you.

INTRODUCTIONSelecting Vows For Your Vow Renewal Ceremony

3

AFTER MANY YEARS

When you renew your wedding vows after being married for many years, you can either use a prewritten set of vows or you can write your own vows. Many couples who have been married for a long time opt to write their own vows, emphasizing the reasons that they would say "I do" all over again and acknowledging their history together. Remember, the wording of your vows can be sweet, sentimental, serious, and even humorous in spots. What’s most important is that they resonate with you personally.

Vows For Your Vow Renewal

-Mark Twain

Love seems the swiftest but it is the slowest of all

growths. No man or woman really knows what

perfect love is until they have been married a

quarter of a century.

Harmonious Partnership

You are my best friend, my hero, and my love.

My hopes and dreams are forever intermingled with yours.

I draw from our combined experience and feelings in our journey to our dreams.

Our compromise, understanding, and support of each other powers the harmony in our marriage.

Today and in all days, I take shared responsibility for our marriage, family, community and myself, regardless of our successes or failures.

I promise to be forgiving, but not complacent.

I promise to be faithful and true to you in mind, body, and spirit;to cherish you and respect you;and to be a source of comfort and support, free and bound by our love, as long as we shall live.

6

Building a Home

Together, we have built a home that is compassionate to all, full of respect and support for our family, friends, and each other.

Today, we pledge to each other to continue to be loving friends and partners in marriage.

To talk and to listen, to trust, and appreciate one another; to respect and cherish each others uniqueness; and to support, comfort, and strengthen each other through life's joys and sorrows.

We promise to share our hopes, thoughts, and dreams as we continue to build our lives together.

May our lives continue to be ever intertwined and our love keeping us together.

May our home be forever filled with peace, happiness, and love.

I promised to love you, honor you, comfort and cherish you.

We’ve had all of those things, and you have been by my side as we created a family, a home, and a life together.

Today, at the beginning of our (X) year as husband and wife, in the presence of God, and our family and friends, I renew my vows to you, pledging my eternal love for you, and eagerly awaiting what life may bring us.

Making it Through Difficult Times

To renew our promise to try always tobring out the qualities of forgiveness, compassion, and integrity in ourselves and in each other.

To continue to cherish each others uniqueness.

To continue to share in life's joys and remain steadfast and comfort each other through life's sorrows.

Simple Religious Vow

Blessed with you, (name), I give thanks to God for our togetherness through all these years which has enriched our lives beyond measure, made me the person I am today, and promise again with all my heart to love you and to cherish you all the days of our lives.

MARRIED YOUNG

What makes a Vow Renewal ceremony incredibly special are the vows which typically focus on thanking each other for their loving support over the years and a pledge of commitment to each other for the future. The wording of your vows should reflect the life you've lived together, how your love has grown and changed over the years, and your feelings for one another. In addition, it is nice to acknowledge the accomplishments of your marriage, your children, and milestones and triumphs you have shared together. Your vows can be sweet, sentimental, serious, and even humorous in spots. Ultimately, they should be a reflection of your unique marriage and love for one another.

Vows For Your Vow Renewal

We come to love not by finding a perfect person,

but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

Thanks for the Journey

Wife: X years ago, with the future stretched out before us, I vowed to love you forever.

Husband: We didn’t know what lay before us, and the future brought many challenges, but we met them together.

Wife: And I’m happy to say, that after all these years, I am even more in love with you.

Husband: As am I. So, I stand here today looking forward to another X years.

Wife: And another X years beyond that.

Husband: I, (name), still take you, (name), to be my wife. To have and to hold, to love and to cherish, in sickness and in health, in times of want, and times of plenty.

Wife: I, (name), still take you, (name), to be my husband. To have and to hold, to love and to cherish, in sickness and in health, in times of want, and times of plenty.

Husband: I thank you for the time we’ve shared. And it is with love and commitment that I look forward to continuing our journey together.

Wife: And with this renewal of vows, our love and commitment will grow ever stronger.

In Unison: As long as we both shall live.

How Little We Knew of Love

Wife: How little we knew of love X years ago, my love.

Husband: How little we knew of love.

Wife: We knew of movie love and TV love and other peoples' kinds of love.

Husband: But we really didn't know much about our real love at all.

Wife: We have learned, you and I. We have learned how to love our special kind of love.

Husband: Learning about our love has been an amazing process.

Wife: I have learned that a choice, once made, is not necessarily completed, but lived. I have chosen you every day since our wedding day. I choose you still. You are my life.

Husband: I have learned that a love, once formed, is never wholly finished. My love for you grows and evolves constantly. I choose you still. You are my life.

Wife: How little we knew of love, my love. How much more we know of love now.

Husband: Do you suppose, X years from now, we'll look back on this day and say "How little we knew of love X years ago?"

Wife: I know I love you today and will love you then.

Husband: I too know I love you today and will love you then.

Lessons Learned

Husband: How young we were X years ago.

Wife: How much we've learned since then.

Husband: We've learned that it takes two to achieve dreams.

Wife: We've learned that people grow and change.

Husband: We've learned that everything and nothing is quite the way we thought it would be. The challenges have been greater than we expected -- and the successes grander.

Wife: And that together we can handle anything.

Husband: X years ago, I thought I loved you. Now, I know I love you.

Wife: X years ago, I thought I loved you. Now, I know I love you.

Husband: Today, in the presence of our family and friends, I renew my vows to you, pledging my love for you, and eagerly awaiting what new lessons life may bring us.

After Making Through Good and Bad Times

Husband: We promised to love each other for richer and for poorer-- and both have come to pass. We've known plentiful times and lean times; we have loved one another through both.

Wife: We promised to love each other in sickness and in health -- and both have come to pass. We've been strong and we've been weak. We've each had our turn to take care of the other. We have given and received comfort.

Husband: We promised to love each other for better and for worse and those too have come to pass.

Wife: Our love has made the good times better and the bad times bearable.

Husband: X years ago, we promised to spend the rest of our lives together. We were filled with hopes and dreams. Today I thank you for making so many of those hopes and dreams come true.

Wife: Thank you for the years filled with joy, laughter, hugs, and unconditional, supportive love.

Husband: We promised to love each other, and this too has come to pass and continues on.

Wife: Today, I promise these things again and to love you even more.

Husband: Today, I promise these things again and to love you even more.

Growing and Changing Together

You have changed in so many ways since the day we were married.

I too have changed, and the world around us has changed most of all.

But one thing has not changed.

My love for you.

X years ago, I promised to love, honor, and cherish you in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, above all others.

I haven't always lived up to my best intentions, but I have always loved you.

I love you more now than I did then because I’ve come to know you better over the years.

And I've matured: the sharp edges of my youth have softened, increasing my capacity for and pleasure in our love.

We've watched our children grow and blossom into amazing individuals.

We've had our share of successes and setbacks.

Some of the things we worried about most turned out not to matter at all.

The one thing that always really mattered most was our love.

Our love has been the one constant in our lives and it has grown stronger. Today, I want to thank you being by my side through all this change and for the joy you've given me during these X years together.

It is with a heart over flowing with love for you that I renew my original wedding vows.

I still promise to love you, honor you, cherish and keep you.

I continue to want you, for better or worse, for richer or poorer.

Whatever the future may hold for us, we will always have our love.

And that is more than enough.

After an Illness

X years ago, I promised to love you for as long as we both should live. I never imagined that I would face the possibility of losing you so soon, or the depths of despair I would feel at that prospect. Today, we are on the other side of the mountain, and I am so ecstatic that I get to continue life's journey by your side. Once again, I promise to love you, honor you and keep you, in times of want, and times of plenty, in sickness and in health, for as long as we both shall live.

love can sometimes achieve the impossible
