This report describes results of a magnetometer survey undertaken in the summer of 1970 on 66 claims in the region of Pickerel Arm and Southwest Bay of Lake Minnitaki in the Patricia Mining Division.
LOCATION f, ACCESS
The claims lie on the west end of a peninsula extending north-eastward between Southwest Bay and Pickerel Arm of Lake Minnitaki. The claims can be reached by water travel in summer, and over ice in winter: the Dinorwic-Sioux Lookout highway runs parallel to Pickerel Arm, the shores of which can be reached at several points by gravel roads.
CLAIMS
The property consists of 66 unpatented claims; No's.: 261953, 261958 - 963 incl., 262011 - 017 incl., 262019 - 028 incl., and 262030 - 071 inc3.
PROCEDURE
Line-cutting
A control "grid" was cut over the claims; this consists of a northeasterly trending baseline with northwesterly trending offsets turned off at intervals of 400 feet. In all, some 52 miles of lines picketed at intervals of 100 feet - including baselines.
Survey
Readings wore taken at intervals of 50 feet or 100 feet along all picket lines: always every 50 feet where anomalous conditions exist.
The survey was carried out by Selco personnel; Paul Peterson the operator under the direct supervision of the writer. The main body of the work was carried out in August, 1970, minor lake work in December.
Work was conducted with the use of a Sharpe's MF-l Fluxgate magnetometer. Base stations were used to gain control of fluctuations in the magnetic field, and all readings on the accompanying maps: SE 448 - SE 449 - SE 450 are corrected.
RESULTS
North of the main baseline, the magnetic relief is quite low. The area is known to be underlain by metasediments: stray anomalies are of little interest.
At the southern ends of lines O to 28E - from 30S to 45S - a number of strong anomalies define observed and presumed Iron Formations containing low grade magnetite (generally). An area immediately south- east (grid) exhibits a background of lower intensity: it is known to be underlain by felsic pyroclastics.
At the east end of the grid, from 10S to 40S is a wide zone of high magnetic relief. The anomalous area coincides with a suite of intermediate and mafic metavolcanics and sills. To the north and south low relief indicates underlying metasediments. Sources of anomalous highs to the south are unknown.
Generally speaking, the magnetic/*, are of no great interest. Anomalies coinciding with known E.M. conductors may be explained by drilling contemplated for the summer of 1971.
